Chapter 531 I Am Willing to Testify!
The two immediately turned around.
"Jennifer?"
Evelyn's eyes widened with delight. She let go of the man's hand and ran over to Jennifer, who was standing alone by the roadside, giving her a warm hug.
"How long have you been waiting? Why didn't you go inside? May's home—she knows you and would've let you in. Why are you waiting out here?"
"Evelyn, I'm sorry for showing up like this and disturbing you and Edward." Jennifer's voice was weak, always so heartbreaking.
"Silly girl, what are you talking about? You have no idea how much I've missed you and thought about you."
Evelyn gently squeezed Jennifer's soft cheeks, smiling brightly. "Edward was just saying the other day that once we finish with this busy period, the four of us should take a nice trip together—even a world tour would be no problem!"
Hearing Evelyn's words, Edward was momentarily stunned, then warmth surged through his chest, his expression relaxed, and he lowered his chin with a soft laugh.
Although Jennifer had already acknowledged his status, hearing Evelyn personally confirm it brought a happiness and satisfaction that couldn't compare.
Evelyn raised her eyebrows playfully. "Anyway, he's paying for everything. Edward's loaded—unlimited black card, swipe away. Might as well take this chance to get you some more wedding gifts."
Edward smiled, both helpless and affectionate.
This Evelyn—she was genuinely generous with others, but with him, she sure knew how to work the angles.
He did have a black card, but between Evelyn and her family members, they probably had enough black cards for a full hand of poker, and they'd still want to spend his money. Sure enough, even on her wedding day, her heart would still be with her family.
But he was happy to indulge her.
What was money for, if not to spend on his wife?
"W-what wedding gifts? Evelyn, stop teasing me." Jennifer's face flushed like a precious gem.
"I'm not teasing—I'm totally serious."
Evelyn blinked her beautiful eyes earnestly. "You and William getting married is going to happen sooner or later. Once marriage plans get rolling, things move fast. Better to prepare early."
At these words, Jennifer's pale lips pressed together lightly, a barely noticeable trace of worry crossing her features.
"Huh? You came alone? William didn't come with you?" Evelyn asked in surprise.
"I came to see you without telling him... I didn't mention it..." Jennifer's watery eyes flickered, as if she wanted to say more but held back.
Edward noticed she had something to say, so he said gently, "Evelyn, Jennifer came all this way. She must have a lot to tell you. Let's go inside."
"Oh... look at me, so happy I'm being silly, just standing here talking."
Evelyn linked arms with Jennifer and happily went inside.
May was thrilled to see Jennifer, fussing over her and preparing fruit and refreshments, bustling about happily.
Jennifer held a warm cup of hot chocolate, sitting stiffly on the sofa, not taking a sip for a long time.
Edward noticed and felt some sympathy for Jennifer. Both daughters of Charlie, what Jennifer could have and control was pitifully little compared to Evelyn, who was showered with endless love.
Although the marriage arrangement with the Alexander family had fallen through, it was enough to show how the Taylor family children couldn't control their own lives.
The only one who could truly live freely was actually just Evelyn.
"Jennifer, you don't look well. Are you feeling sick?" Edward sat down beside Evelyn, showing his concern as Edward.
Jennifer hunched her shoulders slightly and shook her head.
"Jennifer, are you and William having some trouble? Did the Flynn family come looking for you again?" Evelyn took Jennifer's hand and held it in her palm.
"Evelyn... I'm... worried about you."
Jennifer's eyes were watery, brimming with bitter apology. "There are so many negative comments about you online now. I've been so upset I can't sleep. I've been replying to those nasty comments from morning to night... but there are too many, I can't keep up."
"Is that what this is about?"
Evelyn didn't care at all, smiling brightly as she rubbed Jennifer's cool hands. "Jennifer, think about it differently—it means I'm famous! Even bad publicity is publicity; it's all traffic, and lots of people want that but can't get it."
"Next, I'm thinking about promoting some KnightSpear Group products. I need to ride this wave of traffic and boost sales, make KnightSpear Group bigger and stronger!"
Edward's large hand gripped Evelyn's waist, slowly tightening, his lips curving up with an expression of fond exasperation.
Evelyn had new ideas every day, always coming up with something interesting. Being with her, he would never get bored for the rest of his life.
"Evelyn... I know you're just trying to comfort me."
Even though Evelyn didn't mind, overwhelming guilt still made Jennifer's eyes redden. "If it weren't for my situation, you wouldn't have been dragged into this, wouldn't be facing retaliation from the Alexander family. It's all my fault, I'm too weak and too stupid... that's why things turned out this way."
As she spoke, crystal tears rolled down, falling on her trembling hands and forming heartbreaking droplets.
Evelyn gave her man a look.
Edward froze, then quickly leaned toward the table, pulled out two tissues from the box, and handed them to Evelyn.
Evelyn was speechless.
Why give them to her? She wasn't the one crying. He should've given them directly to Jennifer.
Evelyn personally wiped Jennifer's tears, hesitated for a moment, then sighed heavily. "Jennifer, actually, the one who should apologize is me. I couldn't get justice for you, couldn't get revenge for you. Randy... was still released."
The last few words came out hoarsely, Evelyn clearly choking up, her long lashes fluttering like butterfly wings.
Because Jennifer was present, Edward could only suppress his emotions, but the burning red fury in his eyes, the veins bulging on the back of his hand gripping her waist, his tense muscles revealing his hatred, the chilling coldness radiating from him like an unsheathed blade.
Jennifer's moist eyes widened, shaking her head repeatedly. "It's enough, Evelyn, really enough. Let this matter end here! Don't continue..."
"End here? Why should it end here?"
Evelyn's fists clenched so hard they cracked. "Randy hurt you, beat William badly, and harmed so many other girls, making them live in the shadow of assault for the rest of their lives, angry but afraid to speak out."
"The Alexander family uses their power to bully people. Those girls are afraid of retaliation, so to protect themselves and their families, they can only swallow their anger... I'm their only hope now. If I don't protect them and help them, who will?"
"I will pursue this to the end, until Randy pays a price that satisfies me. I'm going head-to-head with the Alexander family father and son to see whose tactics are tougher!"
She had always been the type who wouldn't give up without results, who wouldn't stop until she reached her goal. Facing such a despicable beast, she wished she could tear him apart—how could she possibly let it end here?
Better to die speaking out than live in silence!
She would be that voice!
"Evelyn, calm down." Edward's large hand fell on her heaving back, soothing her agitation.
"Evelyn... what do you mean?"
Jennifer's expression was stunned and confused, her voice trembling. "Did the Alexander family threaten those girls? How do you know?"
Edward, not wanting to add to Jennifer's psychological burden, simply gave a brief account of what had happened over the past two days.
"So those girls who originally wanted to testify backed out because the Alexander family pressured them?" Jennifer's delicate face turned deathly pale.
"Today, we went to see one of the girls, trying to convince her to testify. I knew they were afraid of the Alexander family, so I wanted to back them up so the Alexander family wouldn't dare act rashly."
"But I was too naive—it didn't go well. Plus, with my damaged reputation, those girls' families don't trust me and won't even see me."
Evelyn bit her white teeth viciously. "But I won't give up. I'll think of other ways. If the mountain won't come to me, I'll go to the mountain. Sooner or later, I'll take Randy down!"
"I'll think of ways, too."
Edward took a deep breath, his eyes sharp but reddened. "Even if there's no breakthrough in Randy's case, I'll use other methods to make sure the Alexander family doesn't have any good days."
The living room suddenly fell into oppressive silence.
After a long moment, Jennifer slowly raised her head, her tear-soaked red eyes now shining with a light that had washed away fear and gloom after burning her bridges.
"Evelyn, Edward. I'm willing to be a witness and testify against Randy."
