Chapter 300: Not as Good as Edward

Evelyn and William packed up, preparing to return to Mugden with the medicine Donna gave them.

"Evelyn, are you in a hurry? Won't you stay for dinner?" Joyce hurried over, wearing an apron.

"No, Joyce, I need to get back quickly," Evelyn walked up to her, cupping Joyce's face in her hands, looking her over. "Joyce, your birthday is coming up. Take a good rest these next few days. Don't bother with these chores. Getting a spa and some beauty treatments is the proper thing to do, okay? This weekend, you need to be the most beautiful birthday girl in the world!"

"Birthday, schmirday. I really don't want to celebrate. Just thinking about having to entertain so many people on Sunday makes me feel exhausted," Joyce sighed helplessly. "It's just to make your dad happy."

"It's not you making my dad happy; it's my dad making you happy. No, it's all of us wanting to celebrate your birthday," Evelyn's beautiful eyes showed a hint of playful reproach. "Listen to me, no more tiring yourself out. I have plenty of spies at home. If you don't listen, they'll report back to me. If I get mad, I'll just eat and drink at your birthday party without giving you a gift."

William couldn't help but show a doting smile from the side.

Evelyn pretended to be angry, her cute nose upturned, and her cherry-red lips pouting. She couldn't be more adorable.

Joyce's elegant face broke into a gentle smile as she lightly pinched Evelyn's cheek, "What better birthday gift could there be than having a family?"

She was an orphan who grew up in a welfare home. A talent scout discovered her, signed her to an agency, and she accidentally entered the entertainment industry, becoming an actress.

Her background was tragic, her experiences rough. As one of Charlie's women, she didn't have Donna's noble background, nor did she have a gang background like Susan, with a fearsome father to back her up.

She had always felt inferior, thinking she wasn't worthy of Charlie or this family. She just wanted to live quietly, low-key, and humbly. She didn't want to cause trouble for anyone, feeling content with her current happiness.

Evelyn's throat tightened at her words.

She was so envious of Charlie.

"Evelyn," A magnetic yet somewhat serious voice came.

Evelyn quickly turned around to see Landon, in a black silk priest's robe, holding a Bible, gracefully descending the stairs.

"Landon," Evelyn called out.

"Evelyn, don't rush off yet. I have a few words to say to you in private," Landon said.

Landon personally made a good cup of coffee for Evelyn.

Evelyn rested her chin on her hand, watching Landon skillfully make the coffee. She thought, 'What kind of woman would be worthy of Landon? It's too difficult!'

"Evelyn, are you really interested in Gilbert?" Landon gently pushed the cup towards her, asking calmly.

"Huh?" Evelyn was suddenly stunned, almost dropping the cup in her hand.

"I'm seriously asking you."

"No, absolutely not." Evelyn shook her head firmly.

"Then don't get too close to him in the future," Landon elegantly picked up his cup, sipping his coffee.

"He's the one always seeking me out. I haven't gotten close to him."

"So, you neither accept nor reject him?" Landon teased gently.

"What are you talking about!" Evelyn's face flushed with anger.

"Evelyn, if you don't like him, you need to draw a clear line. Otherwise, you're giving Gilbert the wrong impression, making him think he can pursue you." Landon paused, lowering his voice. "Besides, Gilbert is far more cunning than we see, like an iceberg in the sea. He left home for fifteen years, suddenly returned from Aurora Isle, and then got close to you.”

“Evelyn, you're the daughter of the Taylor family. The entire KnightSpear Group will be yours in the future. You will inevitably be the dream wife of many men. I don't believe Gilbert is 100% sincere with you or he has no ulterior motives." Landon added, smirking. "To put it bluntly, in some ways, Gilbert is even worse than Edward in my eyes."

"Landon!" Evelyn's heart trembled, gripping the cup tightly.

"At least Edward is genuinely devoted to the woman he loves, without any hidden agenda."

"That's true. His devotion to Nicole is beyond measure," Evelyn slammed the cup down, her eyes reddening. "He even joined the army and went to the battlefield because Nicole dumped him!"

"But he also risked everything for you, didn't he? For you, he got himself injured, and still hasn't fully recovered. Who knows if there will be long-term effects."

Evelyn's heart trembled even more, her expression darkening, "That's different."

"Evelyn, you once loved Edward deeply. It's not that you loved the wrong person or were blind. All his flaws, including not loving you, were laid out from the beginning, cruel but straightforward," Landon sighed deeply, leaning forward to gently hold her cool hand. "At least Edward never lied to you. Someone who likes you can have many flaws, but they must be sincere."

Evelyn's pupils contracted deeply, lowering her head in sorrow.

After saying goodbye to her family, Evelyn and William returned to Mugden. As they were about to arrive, Evelyn suddenly said, "Go to Riverside Villa."

William frowned slightly but still responded, "Okay."

Outside Riverside Villa, Evelyn didn't contact Edward directly but called May instead.

"Ms. Tyler, to be honest, Mr. Wellington hasn't been back for three or four days," May sounded very worried. "I've called him several times, but he rarely answers. When he does, he sounds weak. I asked him what's wrong, but he just said he's fine."

Evelyn's heart tightened as if gripped by a giant hand.

"I've raised Mr. Wellington since he was a child. He's always been thoughtful and deep, never sharing bad news. Whenever he's sick or troubled, he bears it alone. No matter how much I ask, he won't say. Ms. Tyler, can you reach him? I'm so afraid something's wrong!" May's voice was choked with tears.

"May, don't panic. I'll find Edward," Evelyn gently reassured her.

Even if Edward won't see anyone else, he won't refuse to see her.

After ending the call with May, Evelyn thought for a moment and called Bart, "This is Evelyn."

"This is Brat. Good evening, Ms. Tyler!" Bart's tone was always friendly when he answered her calls, but this time he sounded a bit flustered.

If he said there was no problem, she wouldn't believe it!

"Where's Edward? He's not home. Where is he hiding?" Evelyn frowned slightly, a bit annoyed.

"Mr. Wellington is on a business trip."

"Bart, let me remind you, lying to me has serious consequences." Evelyn's tone was deep and very intimidating.

"Ms. Tyler, I'm telling you the truth! Even if Mr. Wellington fires me tomorrow, I have to tell you the truth!" Bart's voice choked, almost in tears. "Please come see Mr. Wellington. He's not doing well. I'm afraid if he keeps going, something bad will happen!"
