Chapter 345 The Intimacy He Never Had

"Why are you here?" Evelyn swallowed back the words "How could it be you?"

Gilbert, dressed in an elegant black suit, held the reins of a magnificent horse that shimmered in the night, exuding grace and nobility.

"Came to see you," he replied.

"How are your injuries? You need at least two months of rest for such serious injuries. And where's the cast on your arm?" Evelyn, recalling the terrifying night, couldn't help but worry about his condition.

"With your concern, I wouldn't fear even being shattered to pieces." Gilbert gazed at her, his eyes filled with deep affection.

Evelyn's breath hitched, unsure of how to respond.

"I didn't just come to see you this time; I also brought this for you. You left in such a hurry last time that you couldn't take it with you."

"Gilbert, this horse is beautiful, thank you, but it's too valuable. I can't accept it." Evelyn gently declined with a faint smile.

"Evelyn, did I make you angry? Are you still upset about that day?"

"No. That matter is in the past. My relationship with Edward is as good as over, even if we haven't officially cut ties." Evelyn smiled lightly, feeling relieved.

Gilbert tightened his grip on the reins, his eyes suddenly curving with a smile. "This horse, I specially chose it for you. It was shipped from abroad for over a month. I've been secretly keeping it at the Alexander family's ranch.

"But you saw what happened at the ranch that day. Now that Randy is managing it, I can't keep it there anymore, and I don't have enough space at home to keep a horse.

"So, could you help me take care of it? Just as a favor to a friend."

At this point, Evelyn couldn't refuse.

After all, she always tried to fulfill her friends' requests. "Then I'll take care of it for now. Let me know as soon as you have a place for it, and I'll send it over."

Evelyn couldn't hide the joy in her eyes as she looked at the horse.

But no matter how good it was, she couldn't take it without a proper reason.

"Alright. I'll take it back as soon as I have a place for it." Gilbert looked up at the night sky, where snowflakes were gently falling. "Evelyn, the night wind in Hameen is a bit chilly. Can I come in for a cup of coffee?"

Evelyn suddenly realized they had been standing in the cold wind talking, which was indeed a bit rude. Embarrassed, she said, "I'm sorry, Gilbert, please come in."

Gilbert smiled slightly and walked over.

As he reached Evelyn, he suddenly furrowed his brows, staring at her left temple.

"What's wrong? Is there something on my head?" Evelyn blinked in surprise.

Gilbert slowly raised his hand towards her temple.

Evelyn's heart tightened, and just as she was about to dodge, a red rose appeared before her eyes.

It seemed as if it had been plucked from her head, crimson as blood, and vibrant.

"Where did you get this?"

"I've been practicing a little magic trick for you these past few days." Gilbert shyly adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses, looking refined yet as innocent as a young boy. "My technique is clumsy. If you want to laugh, go ahead."

Evelyn was stunned, her heart filled with mixed emotions.

The more Gilbert cared for her and treated her well, the more guilty she felt, as if she was making mistakes repeatedly.

The butler led the horse inside, his mouth agape in amazement the entire time.

Evelyn led Gilbert into Oasis Villa.

Just as the door was about to close, Gilbert suddenly stopped, glancing coldly behind him. His pale lips curved into a slow, mocking smile, full of disdain and sarcasm.

Meanwhile, Edward stood alone by the window, staring blankly outside.

He smoked one cigarette after another, the crystal ashtray overflowing with cigarette butts, the room filled with smoke, blurring his stern yet lonely expression.

Edward coughed a few times, feeling as if his chest was an empty void, hollowed out.

He recalled the day he threw the divorce papers in front of Evelyn, forcing her to divorce him. Then she left with nothing, getting into Landon's car and leaving Riverside Villa. He had stood in the same spot, his eyes following her departure.

At that time, he was full of anger. But he didn't understand why he was so angry.

Now he finally understood—it was because he couldn't let go.

Then, for a long time, he and Evelyn exchanged harsh words, constantly at odds, just to prove a ridiculous point—that he didn't love her.

It wasn't until Evelyn left that he realized who truly occupied his heart.

At this moment, his phone rang.

Edward saw Bart's name on the screen, his heart skipped a beat, and he quickly extinguished his cigarette and answered.

"Mr. Wellington, as per your instructions, I staked out in front of Mrs. Wellington's house all night and finally saw her!" Bart, having completed his task, should have felt relieved, but his tone was far from relaxed.

"How is she?" Edward held his breath, his face tense.

Recalling that night when Evelyn supported Gilbert and left him, his heart still ached. He stubbornly refused to call her "Evelyn."

He loved her, but that didn't mean he had no temper or pride.

"Mr. Wellington, I'm sending you some photos. Please prepare yourself."

Bart sent the photos to Edward.

Edward opened the photos.

In the photos, Gilbert was leaning close to Evelyn's neck. From his angle, it looked as if Gilbert's lips were almost touching her smooth, soft cheek.

They were so intimate, their actions so close!

Evelyn had always been resistant and rejecting towards him. Every time he shamelessly approached her, she would crush his pride!

The more Edward thought about it, the angrier he became. His eyes turned red with rage!

He punched the glass window with a loud crash, startling Bart on the other end of the phone!

"Calm down, Mr. Wellington. If you're not willing to give up, come over in person. Gilbert is at Mrs. Wellington's house right now. If you do nothing, you'll be letting Gilbert win. Are you willing to admit defeat?"

"Come over? For what?" Edward trembled with anger, his chest heaving, his eyes full of disappointment. "Didn't she say she never wanted to see me again? Then I'll grant her wish."

'There should be a limit to tormenting me, Evelyn,' he thought bitterly.
