Chapter 240 Revisiting the Past, Evelyn is Furious!
Evelyn was loving her three-day homebody streak, just munching and snoozing non-stop.
"One more bite and I'm gonna turn into a pig!" Evelyn groaned, staring at the ceiling.
"Alright, alright, this is the last meal before your diet starts!" Joyce and Susan teased, nudging her towards the dining room.
Charlie and Landon were off at some big event, so today it was just Evelyn, Donna, Joyce, and Susan for lunch.
"Evelyn! Guess what!" William burst in, eyes sparkling with excitement. "Debra's been nabbed for some commercial crimes and is in police custody! Tiffany's losing her mind trying to save her!"
"Ugh, took 'em three days to get Debra. Mugden cops are so slow compared to Hameen." Evelyn wasn't shocked; she just casually wiped her lips with a napkin.
Donna slid another dessert onto Evelyn's plate. "Here, have another piece. Once you're back in Mugden, you won't get to enjoy Joyce's cooking."
"I seriously can't eat anymore!" Evelyn shook her head, covered her mouth, and let out a burp, making Donna, Joyce, and Susan crack up.
Seeing Evelyn's cute and innocent look, William couldn't help but smile. He gently patted her back, worried she might choke. "Evelyn, take it easy, don't choke."
Donna, always observant, noticed William's feelings for Evelyn and furrowed her brows slightly but kept quiet.
"Debra totally deserves to be punished for messing with Evelyn, but Tiffany's the real snake! No way Debra would go after Evelyn without Tiffany's pushing! Tiffany's heart is pure poison!" With Charlie not around, Susan ditched her table manners, slapped the table, and spoke her mind. "When's Tiffany gonna get what she deserves? If it wasn't for her, Joyce wouldn't have..."
"Susan, you're talking so much you haven't eaten anything. Here, have some dessert." Joyce's heart pounded, and she quickly shoved a piece of dessert into Susan's mouth to shut her up.
Evelyn's eyes darkened at this. There was clearly some serious beef between Joyce and Tiffany.
After lunch, Evelyn didn't ask Joyce directly. Instead, she headed to Susan's room to dig for info.
"I really messed up today. I promised Joyce I wouldn't bring it up again and wouldn't tell you!" Susan regretted her slip and slapped her own mouth.
"Before Joyce married Charlie, she worked with Tiffany at TS for a long time, right? They were both signed artists. But Joyce was a big star at TS, while Tiffany was stuck playing villains in Joyce's dramas."
Evelyn thought for a moment, her voice cold. "From what I know about Tiffany, she's super sneaky, insidious, and crazy jealous. Seeing Joyce blow up with fans, she had to be plotting something, right?"
"Exactly! Just..." Susan almost spilled again, biting her lip and closing her eyes. "No, I promised not to tell on Joyce. I won't say anything!"
Evelyn got anxious. "Aunt Susan! Tiffany must've really hurt Joyce! You're all about justice. Don't you want to get back at Tiffany for Joyce?"
Susan plugged her ears with her fingers, muttering, "I can't hear you!"
Evelyn went quiet.
"Joyce definitely has a beef with Tiffany. If it wasn't for Tiffany, she wouldn't have bailed on the entertainment industry right when her career was taking off," Donna's cold voice suddenly cut in, making them jump.
"Donna! Why do you sneak around like that?" Susan clutched her chest, acting all dramatic, even pouting at Donna.
"Aunt Donna, when did you get here? I didn't even notice." Evelyn sighed in relief, glad it wasn't Joyce.
"I've been here since you started chatting. Do you even know what whispering means?" Donna glanced outside, shut the door tight, and walked over. "Susan, at this point, there's no point in hiding it. Besides, Evelyn's grown up now; she should know some things."
Evelyn eagerly grabbed Donna's cool hand, waiting quietly for her to spill the tea.
"Tiffany, out of pure jealousy for Joyce's talent and popularity, kept sabotaging her, using dirty tricks to bully and ostracize her during her prime. Joyce was even drugged at a major event, humiliated, and almost ruined." Donna took a deep breath, calmly recounting the dark past.
Susan sighed, unusually quiet.
"Drugged?" Evelyn felt like she was choking, her voice hoarse. "Did someone hurt Joyce?"
"Not that kind of drug." Donna's throat tightened, and she lowered her voice. "It was a banned substance that messes with the nervous system. It's extinct in Valoria now, but back then, it was all over the entertainment industry. It was a drug that seriously messed up your health."
Evelyn and Susan were both shocked, their eyes instantly red.
Donna was from the Mays family, a big deal in the medical world and one of the top ten pharmaceutical groups in the country. She'd know about this stuff!
"What happened next?" Evelyn asked, gripping Donna's hand tightly.
"Later, at the TS celebration, she lost control on stage in front of everyone." Donna's eyes welled up as she spoke the last words.
"How could this happen?" Susan, furious, punched the makeup mirror, shattering it!
Evelyn's thin shoulders trembled, her breath seemingly paused.
Even twenty years later, she could still feel the excruciating shame, the pain of being ridiculed by everyone!
Joyce was once a stunning beauty.
But she left an indelible shadow on her beloved stage, possibly never having the courage to be the charming, captivating Joyce again!
"Aunt Donna, how can you be sure Tiffany did this?" Evelyn struggled to stay calm, her voice cold.
"Charlie and I found a lot of evidence, but none of it was solid enough to nail Tiffany." Donna shook her head regretfully. "Tiffany often oppressed Joyce, having a shady relationship with the TS director. Joyce suffered a lot at TS and couldn't break her long-term contract, so she had to endure it. Later, I found out that Tiffany had her agent buy that drug from the black market before the celebration. But even so, there was no solid evidence to convict her. Many artists in Mugden were using that drug back then."
"That's enough." Evelyn slowly closed her eyes, then reopened them, her eyes bloodshot. "As long as I believe she's the culprit, that's enough."
