Chapter 409 Opportunity Knocks
Edward returned to the study, waiting for Bart to come find him.
He repeatedly thought about what Kimberly had said to him. Standing by the window, he smoked a cigarette, his eyes deep and contemplative, but his heart was racing.
He thought to himself, 'So, she and Evelyn have been in contact privately and have always been in touch?'
'Why? Evelyn, what exactly are you trying to do? Why do you always make me worry?'
A knock on the door interrupted his thoughts. After responding, Edward took a deep drag of his cigarette, his long, calloused fingers flicking the ash.
The door opened, and Bart quickly stepped in, closing the door tightly behind him. He handed over a note with both hands.
"Mr. Wellington, this is the address Kimberly asked me to give you. She will be meeting Ms. Taylor here tonight."
Edward's heart tightened, and the fingers holding the cigarette trembled slightly.
He turned and took the note, only glancing at it before committing the address to memory.
"What else did that maid Kimberly tell you?"
Bart shook his head. "Mr. Wellington, I feel like she might be a spy Ms. Taylor planted here."
"You don't need to feel; she is." Edward's voice was slightly hoarse as he tightly clenched the note in his hand.
"What is Ms. Taylor trying to do?"
Bart's eyes suddenly lit up. "Could it be that Ms. Taylor still has feelings for you, so she left a spy at Riverside Villa to keep an eye on your every move? It seems like Mrs. Wellington still cares about you, Mr. Wellington!"
Edward looked at him with a gloomy expression, the smoke he exhaled filled with helplessness.
He wasn't narcissistic enough to think Evelyn did this because she still had feelings for him. She was busy with work, ambitious, and had no time for such things.
There was only one possibility.
There was something about the Wellington family that she couldn't let go of and needed to keep a close watch on.
Was it for Joyce? So, she was still trying to find ways to get back at Tiffany?
But if that were the case, they could have done it privately. Why did Kimberly reveal their conspiracy to him today?
Did they want him to help them?
Edward's eyes reddened slightly, and his heart, which felt like it had been in an icebox, began to thaw. A strong protective instinct surged within him.
"Mr. Wellington, do you want me to go with you tonight?" Bart asked with concern.
Edward took a deep breath and shook his head slightly. "No, Kimberly only asked me to go, which means they don't want anyone else to know their secret."
Bart couldn't help but worry for him. "But Mr. Wellington, does Mrs. Wellington know you're going? If this is just Kimberly's idea, won't Mrs. Wellington be angry when she sees you?"
"Then I'll follow her secretly and watch over her from a distance."
Whenever Edward thought of Evelyn, his usually stern gaze softened with love. "I can't stop worrying about her."
At exactly nine o'clock in the evening, Debra left the house, dressed neatly.
Not long after she left, Kimberly, dressed in black sportswear and wearing a baseball cap, exited Riverside Villa through the back door.
As soon as she got into a car and left, a black sedan slowly emerged from the darkness.
"Ms. Wellington, should we follow her?"
The driver was Lloyd Powell, a trusted aide of Tiffany. He had been helping them for years and was sent tonight to assist Debra.
"No need to follow. Tonight, this traitor who bites the hand that feeds her and leaks information must not be allowed to return alive! If we follow too closely and get caught by some unlucky camera, it will cause trouble." Debra had learned a lot about doing bad things from Tiffany.
"Understood. I'll consult with Mrs. Wellington and act at the right time." Lloyd spoke like a programmed machine, devoid of any emotion.
"How do you plan to act?"
Debra raised an eyebrow lazily and asked slowly, "Does my mom want her to disappear, or to disappear forever?"
"Mrs. Wellington's intention is to eliminate all future troubles." Lloyd's face remained expressionless.
"That's quite ruthless."
"If Mrs. Wellington weren't ruthless, how would you have the life of being adored by everyone?"
"Even if my mom did nothing, my life wouldn't change."
Lloyd's gaze in the rearview mirror held a hint of mockery. "Are you sure, Ms. Wellington?"
Debra pouted, feeling very indignant.
Tiffany had to scheme because her status at the time required it; otherwise, she would always be just a mistress.
But Debra was different. No matter what happened, even if she did nothing, she was still Patrick's daughter, a legitimate member of the Wellington family!
Tiffany always called her stupid, a word she was sick of hearing! It made her want to vomit!
This time, she was going to make a move and show Tiffany.
She was capable too!
"Lloyd, I have an idea to catch everyone who wants to harm me and my mom in one fell swoop!" Debra suddenly leaned forward, her tone carrying a hint of malice.
Lloyd looked at her quietly. "What do you have in mind?"
"Why don't we let Kimberly meet that person and then catch them all at once? Wouldn't that be satisfying?"
Debra grinned, revealing an evil smile. "And I'm sure she's the spy Evelyn planted around us.
Edward, that self-righteous man, wouldn't do something so shameless. And if she were Edward's person, there would be no need to sneak out late at night, right?"
Lloyd nodded. "So, you mean I should kill Evelyn?"
Kill Evelyn? Debra's heart suddenly raced, filled with tension, fear, and excitement!
She dreamed of killing Evelyn!
But that was Evelyn, the daughter of Charlie, the richest man in Hameen!
If she really killed her, Charlie would undoubtedly use all his resources to find the killer and avenge Evelyn. She would face enormous risks and endless troubles!
But this was a rare opportunity. Tonight, Evelyn and Kimberly were meeting secretly and wouldn't bring many people. It was the perfect time to act!
"Do you dare?" Debra asked tentatively, her eyes sinister.
"I don't mind. It's not the first time I've done something like this." Lloyd, a former mercenary, was a natural killing machine.
Evelyn meant nothing special to him.
Debra's eyes gleamed with cold light, and she laughed. "As long as you can do it, tonight will be Evelyn's death anniversary!"
