Chapter 138 Hidden Talents Beside Her

Edward walked out of the study, looking pale and feeling like his chest might explode.

Evelyn was like a painful scar on his heart. Just thinking about her made him feel like he was falling apart.

Worse than remembering Evelyn was knowing she once loved him.

Edward was proud. He'd faced poverty and hunger as a kid but never begged or acted desperate.

He and Evelyn were like gamblers betting everything, but instead of money, it was their pride.

He couldn't admit he lost.

"Edward," Bart rushed over, "I have three things to tell you."

"Go on," Edward steadied himself, sweat on his forehead.

"First, Ms. Adams woke up. She's not doing well and wants to see you."

Edward's eyes darkened. "What's the second thing?"

"Patrick got a top lawyer for Tiffany. She'll be out tomorrow. Rodolfo took all the blame, so Tiffany's off the hook," Bart said, sounding annoyed.

"Who's the lawyer?" Edward asked, frowning.

"Gordon Flynn."

Edward was shocked. 'Patrick got Gordon Flynn involved?'

Bart stepped closer. "And get this, Gordon is the older brother of William, Mrs. Wellington's secretary. William is the third son of the Flynn family!"

Edward looked surprised.

The Flynn family wasn't rich, but they were big in the legal world. The head of the family, Brian, was a famous judge. His eldest son, Gordon, had an undefeated record in major cases. The second son, Jesse, was a strict judge. The youngest, William, had an impressive resume and was the youngest Ph.D. in law. Yet, he was just a secretary for Evelyn, taking care of her like a nanny. Evelyn's circle was full of hidden talents.

Edward felt a pang of bitterness but said, "Tiffany will be out soon, but she won't make it to the board of directors."

"Mrs. Wellington is brilliant! She almost knocked Tiffany out in one move! Thanks to her, we're ahead this time!" Bart said, rubbing his hands.

Edward gave him a cold look. "If you admire her so much, go work for her."

Bart went silent.

"We've won many battles, and I've never seen you this excited. Remember who pays your salary."

Bart stayed quiet.

"What's the third thing?" Edward asked.

"Oh! The guy with Mrs. Wellington that night—I found out who he is! You won't believe it!" Bart said, building suspense.

Edward's eyes darkened. "Who is he?"

"He's Gilbert, the youngest son of Elbert, the chairman of the Alexander Group! He just got back to Mugden from Aurora Isle!"

'Gilbert? The Alexander family?'

Edward's heart clenched, his eyes filled with shadows.

The Alexander family controlled half the projects in Mugden. The Wellington and Alexander families, both worth billions, had a deep rivalry. On the surface, they seemed separate, but their competition was constant. He had heard that KnightSpear Group and the Alexander Group had worked together on major projects, and their bosses had been friends for twenty years. 'So, Evelyn and Gilbert have known each other for a long time? Childhood sweethearts, maybe?'

Bart sighed enviously, "Well, it's not surprising. Mrs. Wellington comes from such a good family. The people around her are all exceptional. Look at William, the youngest Flynn, barely worthy of working for her."

He glanced at Edward, feeling a bit sorry for him. Bart thought, 'Even though Edward is now the president and soon to be vice-chairman, all these achievements combined aren't as impressive as having Evelyn as his wife.'

Edward's jaw tightened, veins bulging at his temples. He leaned against the wall, his fingers curling into a fist. He pinched the bridge of his nose, his voice trembling, "Bart, bring me my headache medicine."

That night, a dark green Rolls-Royce stopped in front of the "Little Black Room."

The "Little Black Room" was an unfinished building KnightSpear Group had bought in the western suburbs of Mugden. The location was remote, but Charlie had heard a subway line would extend there in five years, making the property value skyrocket, so he bought it.

The building had a dark, damp basement. If someone were locked up here, they'd be completely isolated, with no way to call for help.

Since Landon knew about this, he couldn't let Evelyn face it alone, so he came with her tonight.

"Landon, Evelyn," the two guards outside bowed respectfully.

"How's the person?" Evelyn asked lazily.

"Still alive."

Evelyn nodded, walking down the stairs into the basement with Landon.

As soon as they entered, the musty smell hit them, and a rat scurried past Evelyn's feet. But she remained unfazed, having experienced worse conditions as a Doctors Without Borders volunteer.

In the dim light, Virgil was hanging in the center, his face bruised and swollen. Hanging upside down for so long, his face was red and bloated.

Seeing Landon and Evelyn, Virgil twisted his body, snot and tears flowing backward as he begged, "I was really wrong, Ms. Taylor! Please spare my life! I'll do anything!"

Evelyn sneered. 'When he tried to assassinate me, I thought Virgil was tough, but after three days, he’s already caved.'

Landon's brows furrowed, and he moved slightly, but Evelyn stopped him.

"Landon, we agreed I'd handle this. Keep your word."

"Okay." Landon took a deep breath, stepping back, gritting his teeth.

Evelyn crossed her arms, walking up to Virgil. She kicked his shoulder with the tip of her high heel.

Virgil's body swung, almost making him vomit.

"Ms. Taylor, I didn't know it was you. If I had known, I wouldn't have listened to Nicole and attacked you."

Virgil deeply regretted his actions, snot almost reaching his eyes. "I'll do anything to make amends! Please give me a chance, even if it means going to prison!"

"If you want to live, answer a few questions," Evelyn said directly.

"Ask away! I'll tell you everything I know."

A cold glint flashed in Evelyn's eyes. "As Nicole's lover in Mythorica, do you know if she ever had a child?"
