Chapter 237 Falling Out
The Wellington fam was a total mess.
But over at the Taylor crib, Evelyn was just chillin' on the swing chair in the backyard of Oasis Villa, soaking up the sun.
No one else dared to sit on that swing but her.
'Cause that swing was custom-made by Charlie for Victoria.
And Charlie would always come over to give Victoria a push on the swing.
Then Victoria passed away.
But Charlie still had the servants clean the swing every day, like Victoria was just out for a bit and would be back soon.
"Evelyn, Ada's here to throw a party for you and apologize again," William said, giving the swing a gentle push. "She couldn't reach you, so she blew up my phone these past two days."
"Chat her up if you want. No biggie." Evelyn took another crunchy bite of her apple.
William gave a wry smile, his eyes drifting to her lips, all full and juicy, way more tempting than the apple.
He swallowed hard.
"The old Ms. Taylor might've had to accept her invite to boost the hotel."
Evelyn chewed on her apple, her toes lightly touching the ground, "But now I'm Alexa, her idol, so I can't just accept any invite."
"True. Ada was so rude before, she needs a real lesson to know messing with you ain't cheap," William said.
"Not really, I'm just tired and not in the mood to socialize." Evelyn yawned, "Plus, after hosting the 'MINT' event, the hotel's already famous. No need to team up with Ada."
Clearly, Ada's past disrespect backfired big time.
Just then, the phone rang.
She saw an unknown number and hesitated but answered anyway.
"Hello, is that Ms. Lily Brown?"
Evelyn's mind drifted.
Lily, that name was ancient history.
In a flash, old memories she had buried deep started to resurface.
"Yeah, this is Lily," Evelyn said.
"Ms. Brown, this is Thunder Peak National Forest Park. I'm the new ranger team leader, Joseph Martinez's apprentice, David Wilson." On the other end, David had no clue he was talking to the now-famous Evelyn of the Taylor family.
Thunder Peak National Forest Park was where she and Edward first met thirteen years ago.
It was also where Edward once saved her life.
"You're Joseph's apprentice? Is Joseph not the team leader anymore?" Evelyn's eyes lit up at the mention of an old friend.
"Yeah, Joseph's retiring next month. This is his last patrol, and after handing over everything to me, he's heading back home." David sighed, "I saw your name in Joseph's contacts, so you must be important to him in Mugden. He wants to leave quietly, but I hope you can come see him this month and say goodbye. Joseph has pancreatic cancer, and this might be the last farewell."
"What? Joseph's sick?" Evelyn sat up, her heart tightening.
"When they found it, it was already late-stage. Pancreatic cancer spreads fast." David's voice cracked a bit.
"I get it." Evelyn's face turned dark and heavy, "I'll make time to visit Joseph soon."
"Please don't tell him I told you. He never wants to show his vulnerable side or be pitied." David said.
"I understand. I've known Joseph for thirteen years. I know his character well. Don't worry." After ending the call, Evelyn just sat on the swing, dazed, her eyes silently filling with tears.
"Evelyn, who's Joseph? What's wrong?" William quickly knelt in front of her, pulling out a clean white handkerchief to gently wipe her tears.
"An old friend." Evelyn forced a smile, her heart aching, "William, help me get in touch with the best gastroenterologists in Mugden and Hameen. I want to do everything I can to help him."
"Okay, I'll handle it today." William agreed seriously, respecting her privacy and never prying more than she was willing to share.
The call had barely ended when another one came in.
This time, it was Evelyn's adorable apprentice, Betty.
"Betty." Evelyn had just managed to calm her emotions when Betty's loud voice exploded, " You womanizer! The biggest womanizer of the century! Evelyn of the Taylor family, the legendary jewelry designer, you hid your identity and deceived me so badly! I almost want to call the cops on you! You deceived my feelings!"
"You just found out?" Evelyn snorted, taking the handkerchief from William to blow her nose.
Tiffany had suffered losses with Edward and gained nothing from Patrick, even damaging the image of the gentle wife she had painstakingly built over the years. It was a huge loss!
The more she thought about it, the more she couldn't swallow her anger, so she took the tearful Debra to the Clark family overnight.
"You are so stupid! What the heck is in your brain?" Tiffany, irritated by Debra's crying, poked Debra's forehead hard with her bright red nails, leaving a blood mark on her smooth forehead, "You used to rely on your connections and sided with Nicole, thinking you could outshine her! But you underestimated her and got schemed by Nicole! If I hadn't reacted quickly to cover for you, what you did at Byron's birthday party would have been enough for Byron and Patrick to completely abandon you!"
"I'm Patrick's favorite daughter, how could he abandon me?" Debra retorted defiantly, her neck stiff with indignation.
Tiffany, furious, slapped her and said, "What did I teach you since you were little? You are not allowed to talk back to me!"
Debra was stunned by the slap, curling up with her face covered, resentment brewing in her eyes.
"Now you're mixed up with Jessica and got deceived by her! What else can you do? It's a good thing you're not a man, otherwise, the Wellington family's vast business would be ruined by you!" Tiffany, having been humiliated by Edward and Patrick, now vented her anger on Debra, "You don't have Jessica's intelligence, you should be as obedient as Molly! If Molly didn't have mental issues, she would be far more capable than you! If I had a choice, do you think I would value you? Useless!"
The implication was that Debra was even worse than the foolish Molly.
Debra gritted her teeth in hatred but didn't dare to retort, tears of humiliation streaming from her bloodshot eyes.
Tiffany dragged the tearful Debra, storming into the Clark family's villa.
The passing servants were all taken aback, casting strange looks at the now infamous Debra.
"What's wrong with Debra crying like that? Could it be that Mr. Clark bullied her?"
"Mr. Clark has always had high standards, he probably wouldn't be interested in her, who has a pretty bad reputation outside."
Debra vaguely heard the gossip, almost spitting fire in anger!
But these were the Clark family's servants that she couldn't even scold, making her chest ache with rage!
"Where's Mrs. Clark? Tell her to come out and see me!" Tiffany shouted at the butler.
"Mrs. Clark is not feeling well today, please come back another time." The butler smiled awkwardly, trying to deflect.
"Don't give me that crap! Miss Clark bullied my daughter, causing Debra to almost be ruined, and they think hiding will solve the problem?" Tiffany, now furious and not in the Wellington family, decided to go all out, "Today, Mrs. Clark must give me an explanation, or I won't leave!"
"Mrs. Wellington. This is the Clark family, not a marketplace. Shouting here is not appropriate."
At this moment, Sophia, holding Jessica's arm, slowly descended the spiral staircase.
Debra, who had been thinking about how to turn the situation around on the way here, lost all her fighting spirit upon seeing Sophia and Tiffany's disgraceful behavior.
"Appropriate? Mrs. Clark, we are here to seek justice. No matter how ugly it gets, we are forced to do so." Tiffany's hateful gaze pierced Jessica, scaring her to cling to Sophia, "Jessica forged Alexa's jewelry designs and signed Debra's name on the receipts, making her take the fall! And afterward, she didn't even apologize, acting as if nothing happened! The Clark family's conduct is truly despicable, isn't it?"
