Chapter 194 You Are Not Worthy Now!

Evelyn's eyes narrowed, and she shoved Edward's chest, jumping back until she hit the fridge door.

She was breathing hard, heart racing, a blush on her cheeks, and sweat on her forehead.

Even with a mask between them, she could feel the heat from Edward's lips.

Blushing and panting, Evelyn ripped off her mask and threw it down.

'It's dirty now!' she thought

Edward straightened up, leaning against the counter. He looked tired, lips pursed like a beast after a feast.

No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't ignore his racing heart.

"Doesn't your back hurt?" Edward asked, still dazed from the kiss but trying to stay cool.

"None of your business!" Evelyn snapped, biting her lip. "Who said you could eat my dessert? I spent all afternoon on it, not for you!"

"I haven't had your desserts in ages. I want to taste your cooking again. You used to make them for me all the time," Edward said. He wasn't big on sweets but couldn't resist trying what she made.

He didn't think much, just didn't want to miss the chance.

"The past is the past!" Evelyn shot back, eyes cold. "You were my husband, so I cooked for you. But who are you now? I'd rather feed it to dogs than give it to you. You don't deserve it!"

Edward felt a pang in his chest, his eyes darkening.

He looked into Evelyn's eyes, not finding a trace of the woman who used to make him desserts with love.

'So, does love really disappear? Not a single bit left?' he wondered.

Ignoring Edward, Evelyn put the remaining brownies on a plate, then in the cabinet, guarding them from Edward.

"Sorry, I didn't realize the dessert was so important to you," Edward apologized quietly.

Evelyn's lashes trembled, then she turned to wash her hands. "Didn't you say you had business? Hurry up. I have a lot to do, and you're in the way."

Edward took a deep breath. "I'm not handling Ada's wedding planning anymore."

Evelyn paused, then laughed lightly. "Isn't that normal? Ada's with KS WORLD now. You should focus on your hotel's bad press."

Ignoring her jab, Edward continued, "Patrick handed it over to Debra."

Evelyn turned to him, frowning slightly.

"You know this isn't simple," Edward said, eyes full of concern.

"So you came all this way to tell me this? Typical Edward, always thinking of yourself," Evelyn said with a sarcastic smile, hand on her hip. "Feeling defeated, hoping I'd deal with Debra for you? Even if she tries something, do you think she stands a chance against me?"

Edward's tense jawline relaxed a bit, a gentle smile forming on his lips.

'She's actually kind of cute when she's mad,' he thought.

"Even so, Debra's not dumb, and she's got Tiffany backing her. What Debra can't figure out, Tiffany will. Tiffany's cunning and devious. I'm worried they might harm you, so I came to warn you," Edward said.

Evelyn's eyes narrowed, and she turned away.

"I'm done talking. You can go now."

Edward gave her one last look before turning to leave.

"Edward, wait," Evelyn suddenly called out.

Edward's heart tightened, and he quickly turned back.

"Why are you telling me this? You're not one to ignore the bigger picture. No matter which Wellington family member handles Ada's case, it benefits your hotel. This is something you've planned carefully," Evelyn said, scrutinizing him. "So, why are you really doing this?"

"I want you to win," Edward said, his gaze sincere and clear, a rare sight after years in the business world.

"Why do you want me to win?" Evelyn asked.

"We used to be married," Edward replied.

Evelyn sneered, her lips curling in disdain. "We were married for three years, and you never showed me any mercy. Now that we're divorced, you're talking about loyalty? Are you joking? Just leave!"

Edward coughed, feeling the dessert stuck in his throat, making it hard to breathe.

---

Night fell at the Clark family home.

Jessica called Debra, asking her to come over immediately for something important.

They went to Jessica's private piano room and closed the door.

"Jessica, what's so urgent?" Debra asked curiously.

"It's been five days since KS WORLD announced their collaboration with Ada. Have you found a way to deal with Evelyn yet?" Jessica asked, arms crossed, using a lecturing tone.

Debra, usually only taking such a tone from Tiffany, felt a surge of anger. "It's only been five days. I need time to come up with a plan."

"Without me, you really can't do anything," Jessica said with disdain, enjoying her feeling of superiority. She walked to the piano, lifted the lid, and tossed a document at Debra's feet.

Debra felt humiliated but didn't show it. She gritted her teeth and picked up the document.

Attached was a photo of a young woman and her detailed information.

"Who is this?" Debra asked, confused.

"Her name is Dorothy Golden. She's a reporter for an entertainment website," Jessica said, casually pressing piano keys.

"Never heard of her," Debra said.

Jessica shook her finger. "Not important. Look closely at her background."

Debra blinked and frowned as she read the document. "Dorothy, the daughter of Mike... Why does that name sound familiar?"

"Mike was the former deputy general manager of KS WORLD, caught embezzling funds thanks to Evelyn, leading to his imprisonment. His life is essentially ruined," Jessica said, resting her chin on her hand with a smile.

"That's a deep-seated hatred," Debra said, jumping up from the sofa. "So, Dorothy's mortal enemy is Evelyn, right? If it weren't for Evelyn, Mike wouldn't have been disgraced and imprisoned!"

Jessica sighed, looking at Debra with disdain.

"Evelyn is the enemy of Dorothy and Mike. We just need to use Dorothy's hatred for Evelyn to make Evelyn suffer!"

Debra's eyes darkened with a cold glint. "Seems like it's time to meet Miss Golden!"
