Chapter 422 "That's your business, it has nothing to do with me."

Everything that happened tonight was overwhelming.

As a seasoned professional detective, Peter couldn't fully process it all at once. He wanted Edward to go home and rest, but Edward was stubborn and insisted on completing the investigation.

Edward was in a bad state.

Riverside Villa carried unbearable grief and hatred for him; he simply couldn't stay there anymore.

But going to Byron's place, he feared he would lose control of his emotions and break down in front of Byron, causing him worry.

Edward stood dazed at the police station entrance, suddenly giving a bitter smile.

The CEO of the Wellington Group, at this moment, was like a lost soul with nowhere to go.

How pitiful, how laughable, and how sad.

"Tonight, stay at my place."

Evelyn suddenly said softly, startling Edward so much that he stared at her in shock!

He even thought he was hallucinating from excessive grief.

After all, he didn't even dare to dream of such a thing.

"I'll just stay at a hotel for a few days."

"Don't overthink it."

Evelyn's long lashes trembled slightly, "You can't go back to Riverside Villa now, and you don't want to worry your grandfather by going to his place. I wouldn't feel at ease if you stayed at a hotel."

"I'm afraid you might do something rash. If something happens to you, it will be much harder for me to seek revenge alone, and it will take longer."

"I just don't like the feeling of fighting alone."

Edward's brows furrowed in despair, his gloomy eyes still moist, like obsidian touched by morning dew.

The feeling of fighting alone.

He understood her, he understood the feeling of giving everything without getting anything in return.

When she was young, she pursued him passionately, but he didn't even know she existed.

Three years ago, she married him, but he never responded to her burning love, not even once.

Edward turned his haggard face away, swallowing back his tears with great effort. He had already lost his composure in the interrogation room; he didn't want to show his vulnerability in front of his beloved Evelyn again.

"Whether you agree or not, I have to stay with you tonight. If you stay at a hotel, I'll stay at the hotel with you. If you sleep on the street, I'll sleep on the street with you."

When Evelyn was stubborn, not even ten Edwards could change her mind.

Hearing this, Edward's pale face flushed slightly, and his heart pounded.

"Then, I'll trouble you tonight." Edward's voice was hoarse.

"Alright, alright, what haven't you done to me? Don't be so polite, let's go."

Evelyn's heart was also inexplicably racing, as if afraid Edward would hear it, she quickly walked ahead.

Edward's Adam's apple bobbed, and he smiled slightly, obediently following her.

After William was injured, Evelyn's villa was empty, and walking in felt chilling.

Edward walked in, and for the first time, he paid attention to his surroundings like a curious child, his eyes darting around, excitedly taking in every trace of Evelyn's life.

This was his first time entering Evelyn's home; before, he could only stand in the rain outside.

At this moment, for the first time in his life, he felt a sense of vanity and suddenly wanted to take a picture and send it to Eric.

Edward thought to himself, 'Who said only you could come here? Look, I'm in too!'

"Edward, what are you looking at?"

Evelyn glanced at him in surprise, "Do you know you look like a thief right now?"

"Sorry." Edward quickly withdrew his gaze, feeling he had lost his composure again.

"Except for the last room on the left on the second floor, you can choose any room you like. There are some ingredients left by William in the kitchen fridge; if you want to eat, you'll have to cook yourself. I don't have a chef here." Evelyn said lightly, turning to go upstairs.

"Why can't I go into that room?" Edward asked foolishly.

"Because that's my bedroom."

Evelyn suddenly stopped, smirking as she looked back at him, "Don't worry, I have no secrets to hide, and no old flames I can't forget. If you want to visit my bedroom, you can do so now."

She couldn't help but be sarcastic again.

Thinking of those old photos of Nicole that he still kept in his study, her heart ached uncontrollably.

It was because she still cared that she couldn't help but bring it up, seizing every opportunity to mock him.

"Evelyn."

Edward's eyes reddened with moisture; he knew she was still hurt by the villa incident.

But at the same time, a glimmer of hope ignited in his heart. If Evelyn truly didn't care about him anymore, if they were only together for revenge, she wouldn't need to mention it.

Her mentioning it meant she cared, cared about his past, cared about him.

"Do as you please, I'm going upstairs."

Evelyn's voice was noticeably more somber and hoarse, "I hope you adjust your mindset quickly; our plan is about to begin."

"Evelyn, I've sold that villa. I've destroyed everything inside except for my mother's photos." Edward's chest felt like it was being crushed by a boulder, making it hard to breathe.

Evelyn's expression remained cold, "It has nothing to do with me. Those are your personal belongings; how you handle them is your business."

"I know their existence hurt you."

"That was because you wanted them to exist, because you couldn't let go." Evelyn chuckled, sounding as if she had let go.

"I completely forgot about it. I had Bart sell the villa long ago, but he never had the time to handle it."

Edward knew his explanation was powerless, but he still felt a bitter taste in his mouth, his eyes reddening as he continued to explain, "That night, I was drugged and lost my senses. I have no memory of what happened."

"In that state, Eric couldn't let me stay at a hotel or take me back to Riverside Villa. He only remembered I had that villa, so he sent me there without asking for my opinion."

"Edward, I said, that's your business, it has nothing to do with me."
