Chapter 568 How Fortunate to Fall in Love with You

Edward's eyes darkened, a tingling sensation spreading through his body.

His warm hand cupped the back of her neck, applying slight pressure to deepen the kiss.

The vendor turned away to clean up the dishes, unfazed by the scene.

But the kiss deeply wounded Gilbert. He felt his heart and insides twist into a knot.

Curtis saw it too and sighed in frustration.

He thought to himself, in this world, many things can be achieved through effort and calculation, but not love. Gilbert had given everything for this woman, yet Evelyn still chose Edward.

Evelyn slowly pulled away from Edward's burning lips, her eyes red, her voice choked with emotion, "Edward... you've suffered so much. But it's all over now, and good days are ahead."

"With you by my side, I feel like the luckiest man in the world every day." Edward held her close, embracing her tightly, dreaming of their future together.

He wasn't great with sweet talk, but for Evelyn, he was willing to learn.

Evelyn leaned into his chest, listening to his steady heartbeat, her nose tingling with emotion.

"Evelyn... are you crying?" he asked, surprised.

"It's all your fault..." Evelyn buried her face in his chest, her voice muffled with complaint.

Edward's heart softened, and he asked gently, "Why? Are you feeling sorry for me?"

She didn't speak, but the tears in her eyes said it all.

"Silly girl, why cry? I've never feared hardship; it only makes me stronger." Edward felt both pained and comforted, "Evelyn, you know, every day I thank my lucky stars for surviving; otherwise, I wouldn't have the chance to be with you."

The evening breeze gently blew as they quietly embraced.

They didn't notice the person in the car across the street, watching them with hatred.

"Mr. Alexander, it's getting late... shall we head back?" Curtis asked softly.

Gilbert slumped back in his seat, closing his bloodshot eyes, and removed his gold-rimmed glasses.

There was a sharp crack.

"Mr. Alexander! You...?" Curtis turned back, shocked.

Gilbert had crushed his glasses with his bare hands, letting the shards pierce his skin, blood dripping from his fingers.

Curtis was startled. Gilbert never parted with those glasses, and now he had shattered them! It showed how deeply he hated.

"You said Charlie couldn't find Evelyn's whereabouts? Well... now he can." Gilbert slowly opened his dark eyes, took out his phone, and dialed Charlie's number.

The next day.

After a long interrogation, Calvin was nearly exhausted when he left the prosecutor's office. But he had no time to go home; he was immediately summoned to the hospital by Elbert.

In the VIP room, Elbert had just learned that the company's assets had shrunk by two billion dollars, and he was so furious that he trashed the room.

Money wasn't the most important thing. The real blow was that the turmoil had forced the company to halt a major project on Aurora Isle, and the authorities were now investigating the company's finances.

"Dad... please calm down, take care of your health." Calvin, with greasy hair and stubble, said hoarsely, "We can earn back the money, but if we don't handle this trouble well, it will greatly affect our family."

"Earn back the money? Easier said than done!" Elbert panted, "Thirty billion... plus the halted overseas project, we've lost nearly a hundred billion! Tell me, when can you earn it back?"

Calvin was speechless.

"Dad, don't panic."

A voice came, and Calvin's heart sank.

Gilbert walked into the room, his face calm and smiling, "Don't worry about the Aurora Isle project, I have a way to fix it."

"Gilbert, you have a way?" Elbert was surprised.

Calvin glanced at Gilbert with a blank expression, cursing inwardly: Damn pretty boy!

"Dad, although I've been abroad for years, I've built some connections." Gilbert walked to his father's side, patting his back, "You forget, I lived on Aurora Isle for fifteen years. I can smooth things over and get the project greenlit; it's a small matter."

"Gilbert! Are you serious?" Elbert grabbed his arm excitedly.

Gilbert looked into Elbert's hopeful eyes, sneering inside. From childhood, Elbert had only ever been beaten or scolded by him, he never had such expectations. He would never forget how this family treated him.

"Dad, I wouldn't lie about something so important." Gilbert smiled.

"Good boy, good boy!" Elbert was delighted, patting his shoulder, "Gilbert, I admit I didn't care enough for you before, I apologize!"

"Dad, don't say that." Gilbert hugged Elbert, "You're my father, who else would I help if not you? You were strict with me for my own good. I've never resented you."

"Gilbert, don't make promises you can't keep." Calvin stared at him, "If you have such great abilities, why didn't you say so earlier after returning home?"

"Calvin, because you're the CEO, I believed in your ability to lead the company through tough times. My small skills wouldn't dare show off in front of you." Gilbert replied.

"Hmph, if Calvin were so capable, our family wouldn't have stagnated these past two years, losing the top spot to the Wellington Group!" Elbert glared at Calvin in displeasure.

Calvin's face turned black with anger.

"Gilbert, when do you plan to act?" Elbert asked anxiously.

"Dad, I can smooth things over, but what identity should I use?" Gilbert sighed, "I have no shares or position in the company. How should I introduce myself to Aurora Isle's officials?"

"That's easy!" Elbert said, "Tomorrow I'll appoint you as the company's executive director, involved in high-level decisions! If you can restart the project, I'll transfer Helen's shares to you and add another five percent!"

Calvin was stunned.

Gilbert smiled, "Thank you for your support."

Just then, Elbert's secretary rushed in, shouting, "Mr. Elbert Alexander! Bad news! Mr. Randy Alexander has been arrested by the police!"

"What?" Elbert and Calvin were stunned.

Only Gilbert, standing behind them, had a mocking smile on his lips.

Randy was arrested while partying, drinking, and doing drugs, even assaulting the police, shouting nonsense. So, he was also charged with assaulting an officer.

When he was taken, he was only wearing underwear, and the police made him walk out the door like that.

"Why are you arresting me? I didn't break the law!" Randy shouted.

The police sternly said, "Randy, you're under arrest for rape! And assaulting an officer!"

"Rape? You've got the wrong guy! I didn't do it! I'm innocent!" Randy's mind cleared a bit.

"Innocent? We have all the evidence of your crimes, dozens of girls you've harmed!" The police said angrily, "You'll definitely get over ten years, save your words for the court!"

Hearing he would go to prison, Randy's mind collapsed. He suddenly broke free from the police and stripped off his last piece of underwear.

"I can't rape! I'm impotent... I'm sexually dysfunctional!"

Suddenly, flashes went off, and reporters frantically took pictures.

Randy then noticed the media around him, his mouth agape, body stiff.

Then, his vision went black, and he fainted.
