Chapter 398 Learning the Truth, Regretting the Past

Landon and William left directly.

But the news that Landon, the CEO of KnightSpear Group, suddenly went to the Wellington Group had already spread throughout the skyscraper.

Eric helped Edward back to the office, and Bart, still worried, followed them.

His arm was dislocated, and the pain made his clothes soaked with sweat, yet he didn't utter a single sound.

It was Eric who noticed something was wrong and discovered that Bart was also injured. He called for help and had Bart forcibly taken to the hospital for treatment.

"Landon seems so gentle and refined, but when he goes crazy, it's truly terrifying," Eric sighed.

"Everything is for Evelyn. I understand him," Edward replied weakly, sitting on the sofa with his head tilted back, exhausted both physically and mentally.

If it had been someone else bullying Evelyn, he might have done something even crazier than Landon.

Thinking of the words Landon left before he left, Edward's breath hitched, and it felt as if his blood had frozen in his veins.

"Alright, if it were Molly, I probably wouldn't be able to stay calm either."

Eric looked worriedly at the knife wound on Edward's neck. Though not too deep, the blood had stained his white shirt collar crimson. "You should go to the hospital and get that treated."

"It's nothing," Edward said, taking a deep breath.

"Why did Landon suddenly go so hard on you?" Eric asked, full of concern.

"He already knows that I had sex with Evelyn."

"It seems that in Landon's eyes, Evelyn is no longer just a sister but a daughter. Luckily, it's he didn't come in with a gun." Eric joked, trying to lighten the mood.

"In the end, it's my fault. After the divorce, I really shouldn't have touched her."

Edward pulled at his hair and took a deep breath, "But Eric, I couldn't control myself. I couldn't control my thoughts, my body. That night, she was so close to me. The temptation was too deadly for me. I had only one thought in my mind: to possess her. I wanted her."

Eric thought of Molly's words and felt heartache for Evelyn, "Edward, honestly, it's no wonder Landon wants to kill you. What you did to Evelyn back then was too much."

"What are you talking about?" Edward looked at him in confusion.

"Two years ago, you had sex with Evelyn. She was your woman two years ago, and you don't even remember."

"Eric." Edward's eyes widened, and he grabbed Eric's hand, his fingers trembling, "Are you serious? Who did you hear this from?"

That day, Evelyn's words had already made him suspicious.

But he had always been unable to accept it; it almost overturned his entire understanding!

"Molly witnessed everything that happened back then by accident."

Eric sighed helplessly and recounted almost word for word the secret Molly had revealed that day to Edward.

Edward's mind buzzed, and the huge shock left him in a daze.

"Molly is a witness. If you don't believe anyone else, you should believe Molly. I'm really surprised that you have no memory of it at all!"

"I don't know, I really don't know." Edward held his head in pain, his chest aching, "That day was the anniversary of my mother's death. I was in a terrible mood and drank too much. Later, sometimes, I would inexplicably dream of being intimate with Evelyn in bed. I thought it was just a dream. I never imagined that we had actually slept together."

"Two years ago, I remember you were still entangled with Nicole. You even told me that you would definitely get back together with Nicole in the future, that you would definitely divorce Evelyn because you didn't have any feelings for her. Right? Edward, these words that sound so heartless now were what you told me back then, right?"

Eric's words were like daggers to the heart.

He slumped there, his mind filled with the image of Evelyn looking at him with tears and hatred in her eyes.

That night two years ago, when Evelyn had sex with him, what was she thinking?

How much must she have loved him back then, to endure such torment and bullying, and still want to be with him?

He deserved to die.

Landon's knife should have cut deeper.

"Edward, I actually think you've had feelings for Evelyn for a long time. You just never understood what love is, how to love, and you've always been manipulated by the childhood debt of gratitude to Nicole. That's why you could never accept Evelyn and face your own feelings."

Eric shook his head repeatedly, feeling both helpless and heartbroken for Edward, "I came here today to tell you all this. Originally, I wanted to persuade you not to give up on Evelyn, to hold on no matter what."

"But seeing Landon's attitude towards you today, Edward, I now sincerely believe that some missed opportunities might really be God's arrangement."

"Maybe forcing you to be together will only bring more pain to both of you. Besides, Evelyn has always cherished her family. Landon's attitude is clear; he won't accept you. The Taylor family won't accept you. Even if Evelyn has feelings for you, even if you reconcile, can you really be happy together?"

Too many unresolved issues stood between them.

Even Eric couldn't convince himself to let Evelyn accept Edward again; it would almost be degrading her.

"Eric." Edward's eyes were bleak and dim. Despite his young face, he suddenly looked so aged that it was unbearable to see. "I want to see Evelyn. I want to tell her I'm sorry."

Gilbert was extremely worried when he found out that Evelyn had been hospitalized due to a car accident. He couldn't wait and went to the hospital that very night to visit her.

"Mr. Alexander, today, Mr. Taylor went to the Wellington Group to cause trouble for Edward. It caused quite a stir, and everyone is talking about it. He even injured someone from the Wellington family," Curtis eagerly reported to Gilbert.

Gilbert narrowed his eyes slightly. "What exactly happened?"

"I couldn't find out the specifics between Mr. Taylor and Edward. But if he was provoked, it must be because of Ms. Taylor."

Gilbert's eyes darkened.

Was Evelyn's car accident also related to Edward?

But something must have happened in between to make the usually calm and composed Landon lose his temper and go after Edward.

"Anyway, this is a good thing in my eyes."

Gilbert closed his eyes again and let out a mocking laugh, "Before, Landon always looked down on me and sided with Edward. He even intended to match Evelyn and Edward together. Now that they've fallen out, it means Edward and I are on the same starting line. My advantage might even be greater."

"Of course, your advantage is greater. How can Edward compare to someone as noble as you?" Curtis was extremely disdainful of Edward, "Edward is just a pawn Patrick uses to maintain appearances. If Caleb could come back healthy, there would be no place for Edward in the Wellington family."

Gilbert's eyes flickered with an unclear emotion upon hearing this.

After a moment of silence, he suddenly asked, "Last time, I asked you to investigate the man who approached Sarah. Did you find anything?"

Curtis hesitated for a moment, then looked troubled and repeatedly apologized, "I'm sorry, Mr. Alexander. I didn't find anything."

"Didn't find anything?" Gilbert raised an eyebrow.

"It's my fault!" Curtis explained, sweating profusely, "But I used all my connections to investigate that man. His information is as if it's encrypted, so clean that there's no trace at all!"

"Then he must be a very interesting person."

Gilbert curled his lips, but there was no smile in his eyes. "Recently, I've had you keep a close watch on Sarah. Has she been behaving?"

"Of course, Miss Morgan is either at the Rose Club or in the villa you provided for her. She hasn't gone anywhere else."

"Keep an eye on her. Don't let her go out and cause unnecessary trouble."

Arriving at the hospital, Gilbert hurried to the floor where Evelyn's room was, with Curtis following closely behind.

As soon as they reached the entrance of the VIP ward corridor, they were stopped by bodyguards arranged by Landon.

"Do you know the relationship between Mr. Alexander and Ms. Taylor? Even if you don't, you should know the relationship between the Taylor family and our Alexander family." Being stopped, Curtis naturally felt indignant.

The bodyguards looked at each other upon hearing this, but they still didn't let Gilbert through. Gilbert smiled slightly, his expression cold as he adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses.

Just as he was about to say something, a rather playful voice came from ahead.

"What's all this talk about relationships? Sounds like a tongue twister."

Gilbert's eyes lifted coldly, and his pupils suddenly contracted!

It was the man he had sent Curtis to investigate, but found nothing about, the man who had interacted with Sarah that night.

Who exactly was he, and why could he appear here freely?

Ulysses had his hands in the pockets of his black trench coat, his handsome eyes showing a hint of bored laziness, but his gaze on Gilbert was exceptionally clear and cold, like a proud Satan.

"So, Mr. Alexander, what exactly is your relationship with my sister? I'm a bit curious."

As the words fell, Gilbert's brows furrowed, and he clenched his fists.

Sister? Was Evelyn the sister he was referring to?

"May I ask your surname?" Gilbert took a deep breath and asked with a faint smile.

"Brown," Ulysses slightly raised his chin.

Gilbert suddenly remembered that Evelyn's third brother, Aaron, also had the surname Brown, the same as their mother, Victoria.

He knew that Victoria had given birth to five children, so Evelyn had another older brother.

So, there was only one possibility.

Gilbert adjusted his glasses, his heart sinking.

The man in front of him should be Evelyn's mysterious fourth brother, Ulysses.
