Chapter 385 A Desperate Gamble
In the underground parking lot, Lori was hiding in the car, crying her eyes out, with mascara and eyeliner smudged all over her face, making her look a mess.
"Enough! Why are you crying? Look at you, so pathetic!" Bradley was fuming, his nostrils flaring.
"I embarrassed myself in front of so many people. What's wrong with crying a little?"
Lori wiped her tears miserably. "Mr. Wellington was so mean. I fell right in front of him, and he didn't even help me up! How could he just ignore me?"
"All he sees is that bitch Evelyn! She's got him completely under her spell!"
Bradley recalled the way Edward had been gazing at Evelyn, making him furious too.
"Dad, Mr. Wellington still has feelings for Evelyn! What am I supposed to do?" Lori asked tearfully.
"If he really had feelings for her, they wouldn't have divorced! They divorced because they couldn't stand each other anymore!"
Bradley exhaled. "Right now, Evelyn isn't your only obstacle to getting close to Edward! There's also Jessica!"
Thinking of Jessica made Lori headache.
Moreover, the recent scandal about Jessica and Edward meeting secretly at a hotel was still making waves. Rumors about the Clark family and the Wellington family forming an alliance were rampant.
But she felt that Jessica wasn't much of a threat.
It was Evelyn who felt like a sword hanging over her head, giving her a constant sense of dread!
"Yeah, there's also Jessica from the Clark family."
Lori sniffled. "Mr. Wellington, I can understand if he likes Evelyn, but how can he be so entangled with Jessica? Am I not better than Jessica?"
"You! Usually so smart, how can you be so clueless now?"
Bradley clicked his tongue disdainfully. "Edward obviously doesn't care for Jessica. That hotel meeting was probably some trick Jessica pulled to marry Edward and become the CEO's wife of the Wellington Group."
"If Edward really liked Jessica, why hasn't he made a move yet? This alliance, I think, might not even happen!"
Hearing this, Lori felt enlightened.
She always listened to Bradley and knew he was a man with a plan. Otherwise, he wouldn't have survived in the cutthroat world dominated by Charlie.
"If the Clark family can use tricks, why can't we? Right now, we should take a gamble." Bradley's shrewd eyes narrowed.
"Dad, what do you mean?" Lori asked eagerly.
Bradley patted her shoulder heavily. "In my opinion, if you want to win over Mr. Wellington, you need to throw away your pride and go all out."
She never had any pride. Going all out was a must!
"Daddy, my dear daddy, do you have a plan? Tell me!" Lori clung to Bradley's arm.
"Given your current situation, you don't have many chances to see Edward privately, so you must seize every opportunity!"
Bradley whispered in her ear for a while, and Lori's frown relaxed, her mind suddenly clear!
"Got it, Dad. To become Mr. Wellington's woman, I'll do whatever it takes!"
Edward returned to the party, his expression clearly sour.
Eric immediately approached him, observing him closely, and tentatively asked, "What's wrong? Did things go south with Evelyn?"
"There was nothing to talk about in the first place." Edward sat heavily on the sofa, downing his champagne in one gulp.
Thinking of Evelyn made him feel inexplicably agitated.
"You! You really don't know how to talk! If Evelyn came to see you, it means she's calmed down! Why didn't you seize the chance to win her back and make her happy?"
"You can't seriously be thinking of marrying Jessica, right? As a representative of the Clark family, I oppose it first!" Eric glared.
"Eric, from the beginning, do you think I'm the only one at fault?" Edward's hand tightened around the glass, veins bulging, as if he was suppressing some tormenting emotion.
"What do you mean? If it's not your fault, is it Evelyn's?"
"I don't know."
"Edward, considering all the sacrifices Evelyn made for you, you have no right to blame her. If you truly love her, everything she does is right! Don't try to reason with a woman; it's extremely foolish." Eric spoke bluntly.
As Edward pondered, footsteps approached them.
"Mr. Wellington, Eric, nice to meet you!"
Both men looked up to see Bradley and Lori standing before them.
Edward's eyes turned cold at the sight of Lori.
He didn't say a word, treating Bradley and Lori with indifference.
Lori, who had been crying miserably in the parking lot, now had a fresh, delicate makeup, with her eye makeup particularly emphasized, making her look pitiful and endearing.
Eric didn't really know Bradley, and he certainly didn't know Lori.
But being a well-mannered rich kid, he wouldn't be rude.
So Eric stood up, smiling, "I'm not familiar with you. May I ask who you are?"
"My name is Bradley, I'm the executive director of KnightSpear Group."
Bradley added with a smile, "Mr. Wellington is more familiar with the Taylor family, after all, he has a close relationship with my niece."
"Niece?" Eric was slightly taken aback.
"Charlie's daughter, Evelyn, is my niece."
Bradley put his arm around Lori's shoulder, smiling warmly, "Evelyn is Lori's cousin. They grew up together and are very close!"
Eric was shocked! So this Bradley was Charlie's younger brother!
Seeing Eric's softened expression, Lori felt smug. Although she was just a branch of the Taylor family, having the Taylor family as a backing made people look at them differently.
"Do you need something?" Edward swirled his champagne glass, suddenly speaking coldly.
He showed no extra warmth just because they were from the Taylor family.
In fact, he was extremely annoyed by Bradley's constant mention of Evelyn, trying to get close to him.
Over the years, as the CEO of the Wellington Group, he had seen too many people with hidden agendas. Though young, he was good at reading people.
Bradley might be Charlie's brother, but they were not the same kind of people.
And naturally, he wasn't Edward's kind of person either.
"Well, Lori was rude to you earlier and offended you. I brought her here to apologize. But she's not an inconsiderate woman, so please don't misunderstand her." Bradley said with a forced smile.
"Mr. Wellington, I'm really sorry about earlier." Lori clasped her hands in front of her, looking very pitiful.
