Chapter 567 Happy Lovers, Envy-Inducing

Helen's face twisted with rage as she glared at Gilbert's infuriatingly perfect features.

"Help me? They're monsters, and you're not? No, you're worse... you're a damned devil! Even more shameless!"

Gilbert's smile only grew wider, showing no sign of anger. "I'm not exactly a saint, but I can't bring myself to be too harsh with family. That's why I want to help you."

"Besides, who else but me is willing to see you now? Do you think anyone else cares about you in this godforsaken place? Do you still think you're part of the Alexander family?"

Seeing Helen's resistance to his so-called "help," Gilbert delivered the final blow.

"Helen, think carefully. Who's really behind the misery you and your husband are facing?"

Helen's fury erupted, her voice hoarse and desperate. "It's the Taylor family... they're the ones retaliating against me! It must be that bitch Evelyn!"

Gilbert shook his head. "You messed with Charlie's daughter. The fact that he didn't kill you shows he still values the decades-long relationship between our families. But wasn't it all Randy's doing?"

"Randy?" Helen's mind buzzed with realization.

All this time, she had been focused on the Taylor family, almost forgetting about that man!

"It was Randy's instigation that led to the Taylor family's revenge. If he had controlled his desires from the start, you and Zachary would still be living a life of glory. Now, he's ruined everything. From the press conference to your imprisonment, did he ever speak up for you? He put all the blame on you, making you bear everything while he continued to live comfortably under the Alexander family's protection."

Helen fell silent, clearly deep in thought, though her eyes burned with even more hatred.

"What exactly do you want me to do?"

"That depends on how sincere you are about working with me." Gilbert crossed his legs elegantly, knowing he held all the cards.

Helen's eyes were bloodshot, her teeth nearly grinding to dust. "I want Randy dead!"

"Death is too easy. It brings no pain." Gilbert leaned closer to the glass, his smile sinister. "You need to make him wish he were dead, to live every day in agony, hating you but unable to do anything about it. That's true satisfaction."

"I have dirt on Randy, in an encrypted folder on my laptop in my study. The password is..."

"No need for a password."

Gilbert stood up slowly, satisfied, looking down at Helen's hate-filled face. "Your so-called encryption is nothing to me."

As he left the detention center, Curtis immediately approached.

Gilbert lazily extended his pale, slender hands, and Curtis quickly squeezed hand sanitizer into his palms, then sprayed him with freshener.

"It's filthy and disgusting in there. That place is unfit for humans."

Gilbert frowned, scrubbing his hands, his germophobia on full display. "But the environment suits a maggot like Helen."

"You've already done her a great favor by coming to see her."

Curtis cautiously asked, "Mr. Alexander, will that lunatic cooperate with you?"

"Of course, I wouldn't fail." Gilbert raised an arrogant eyebrow.

"Congratulations in advance, then. One less problem to deal with."

Curtis smiled obsequiously. "Once Randy is out of the picture, Calvin won't be far behind. Elbert will have no choice but to rely on you. The entire Alexander family will be yours."

"Let's hope so."

Gilbert squinted at the endless dark sky, his eyes filled with complex emotions. "The old man gave me a second chance. I just hope I don't disappoint him."

"By the way, Mr. Alexander, I just got word that your private jet is ready."

"It took a while, but it was worth the wait."

Gilbert adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses, a cold glint in his eyes. "Contact Sebastian. Tell him everything is set. We can send him and his brothers on their way anytime."

Gilbert's luxury car cruised leisurely towards the Rose Club.

Thinking about the upcoming events and his grand plans for the future, Gilbert couldn't help but smile with excitement.

Everything was under his control now.

Except for Evelyn.

Gilbert clenched his fist in frustration and asked, "I told you to keep an eye on the Taylor family. Any news?"

Curtis slapped his forehead and quickly reported, "Our people found out that Ms. Taylor seems to have escaped from the Taylor family. Mr. Taylor is searching for her everywhere, but no luck so far!"

"What? Evelyn ran away? Why didn't you tell me sooner?" Gilbert's eyes widened with tension, leaning forward.

"Mr. Alexander, please calm down! The Taylor family is very secretive. Our people had to stay up day and night to get this information!" Curtis's heart pounded.

Gilbert irritably removed his glasses, rubbing his temples. "Evelyn, I remember you climbing walls and trees as a child, doing anything to sneak out and play. I can't believe you're still so rebellious. And Charlie, knowing her stubborn nature, how could he confine her? It's like caging a bird."

"I hope Ms. Taylor is okay. She's smart and capable; no one would dare bully her."

"Landon and the others wouldn't let their beloved Evelyn wander outside. Even if Charlie can't find her, the Taylor men..."

Gilbert put his glasses back on, his words trailing off as he suddenly looked out the window, his eyes widening in shock.

"Stop the car!"

Curtis braked abruptly, sweating.

Gilbert pressed his hand against the window, his breath fogging the glass as he stared at the scene outside.

Across the street, at a food stall, a couple sat close together, eating pasta and laughing.

It was Evelyn and Edward!

It was hard to believe that the proud, high-born billionaire would lower himself to enjoy street food with the woman he loved.

"Is it good?" Evelyn's smile was radiant as she gently wiped Edward's lips with a napkin.

Edward, his mouth just cleaned, couldn't resist kissing her soft lips. "Delicious. Everything you like is delicious."

The sound was loud, and a blush spread across Evelyn's cheeks.

"Looks like you only think it's good because of me."

Evelyn pouted playfully. "If you don't like it, just say so. I don't want you to humor me. I won't bring you here again."

Edward's long lashes fluttered as he reached across the table for two condiment bottles.

One was pepper, the other ketchup.

He carefully added them to Evelyn's plate, stirred, and urged her to try it.

Evelyn's eyes widened in surprise as she tasted it again.

"It's delicious! So much better with just a bit of seasoning. How are you so talented?"

Edward gazed at her, his smile shy. "Evelyn, you think I say it's good to please you, but you're wrong. Before I was taken back to the Wellington family, these humble street food stalls were a feast for my mother and me."

Evelyn's heart ached, her breath catching in her chest.

She thought she knew Edward's hidden past from May, but now she realized it was just the tip of the iceberg.

If he didn't tell her himself, she might never know or imagine the full extent.

What she saw as an occasional treat was a daily routine for young Edward.

"When I was a kid, after helping my mother with chores, I'd be starving. She'd bring me to these stalls for pasta."

Edward turned the plastic cup in his hand, lost in long-buried memories. "To save money, she'd only order one plate for me, but it always had meat. She'd add her own seasoning to make it less bland. My favorite was pepper and ketchup, tangy and spicy. It was a thrill.

"Growing up, I'd do the same whenever I had pasta. But now, I don't get to enjoy those childhood flavors anymore."

A poignant silence filled the air.

Edward snapped back to reality, apologizing with a bitter smile. "I'm sorry, Evelyn. I shouldn't have brought this up... I'm sorry."

Evelyn's eyes welled with tears as she cupped his face and sealed his lips with a kiss.
