Chapter 70 Lily Brown, How Could You Treat Me Like This?
After saying that, Edward saw Ulysses in front of him moving like a ghost, swiftly rushing toward him!
Ulysses seemed intent on beating up Edward badly, so every move was strong and powerful, with punches as fast as lightning.
Edward's expression turned fierce as his tall figure barely dodged two moves!
"You're well trained." Ulysses squinted, his tone mocking.
Edward took a couple of breaths.
He had retired for many years, although he never neglected boxing and fitness training, it had been a long time since he had fought anyone.
It all relied on Edward's solid foundation and muscle memory. After exchanging a few moves with Ulysses, Edward suddenly realized that Ulysses's moves were also familiar!
There was a trace of the close combat techniques they had learned at military school.
'Who is this man?!'Edward pondered.
"Ugh—!"
In a moment of distraction, Ulysses kicked Edward in the abdomen, causing him intense pain, but he didn't fall, just staggered back two steps.
He was quite a stubborn man.
"Mr. Wellington!" Bart witnessed this scene and exclaimed, rushing breathlessly to Edward's side to support him. "Are you okay?!"
"I'm fine." Edward suppressed the pain, coughing lightly.
"How dare you pick a fight with Mr. Wellington?! I'll take you on!" Bart, with red eyes, ran towards Ulysses without hesitation.
"Bart! Come back!" Edward wanted to stop him, but it was too late!
Bart's poor combating skills made him an easy target. He was practically asking to be given a beating!
"You are overestimating yourself. You’re attempting to perform beyond your means!" Ulysses mocked.
As expected, Bart's punch didn't even graze Ulysses's collar. He was then directly knocked out by Ulysses's left hook.
Edward's eyes turned red instantly. "I must know you! Who are you?!"
Ulysses smirked and raised an eyebrow.
Edward and Ulysses certainly knew each other, having attended the same military school, both being prominent figures. But apart from training, they had no personal interaction.
"You want to know who the most important person to me is, right? I'll tell you. It doesn't matter." Ulysses took a step closer to Edward, passing Bart, with a smirk both ambiguous and wicked. "My most important person is your ex-wife."
Edward was shocked, his fingers trembling as he clenched his fists, which were as hard as iron.
"You're a dead man!" Edward's muscular body was restrained under the gray suit, filled with boiling and fierce testosterones.
In the next moment, Edward swiftly charged toward Ulysses, as they engaged in a fierce fight.
Ulysses's eyes narrowed as he noticed that although Edward hadn't been a soldier for many years, his moves hadn't deteriorated, and despite the difficulty of moving in his well-tailored suit, he was still agile in his attacks, not to be underestimated.
He was like the handsome main actor of a blockbuster movie!
After dozens of rounds, Edward gradually couldn't keep up, the alcohol wearing off, his limbs weak and dizzy, but miraculously holding on until now.
Finally, Ulysses heavily knocked Edward to the ground, a burst of excruciating pain shooting through his spine.
"You despicable man, go to hell," Ulysses said contemptuously to the person on the ground.
Just as Ulysses was about to kick Edward in frustration, another male voice suddenly rang out.
"How dare you touch my bro in Mugden? Who gave you the courage to pick a fight?!" Eric rushed over at the fastest speed to stand in front of Edward, his eyebrows furrowed, his narrow phoenix eyes shooting out angry glints.
"Another one? What a troublesome." Ulysses squinted, his body about to move, but suddenly froze.
Facing Ulysses was a dark barrel of a gun.
Eric had somehow pulled out a handgun and aimed it directly at Ulysses's head!
"Don't come any closer! Or I'll shoot!" warned Eric.
Eric was actually quite panicked as well, having witnessed Edward and Ulysses fighting when he arrived, immediately drawing a conclusion that pulling the trigger was the only way out!
"Eric, hold your fire!" Edward breathed slightly, his abdomen spasming in pain.
"Edward, are you okay! He almost killed you, and you're telling me not to shoot?" Eric hated Ulysses deeply. "If you don't want to die, get out now, or I'll shoot! It would be very easy if the Clark family wants you to disappear from Mugden without a trace!"
Ulysses didn't care at all, instead taking a cold and menacing step forward.
"Edward, run!" Eric shouted, his heart pounding as he pulled the trigger.
"Eric! Stop!"
The gun went off.
But the bullet from the gun didn't hit Ulysses.
"Ouch, that hurts," Evelyn moaned.
Evelyn suddenly appeared out of nowhere and firmly held Ulysses, with the steel ball hitting Evelyn's left shoulder!
Although it was not a real bullet, the impact was still significant!
Evelyn was in pain, sweating profusely and trembling all over.
But even so, Evelyn firmly held onto Ulysses, refusing to let go no matter what.
Edward's pupils shook in shock, as if stepping into thin air from a tall building, his heart plummeting with pain!
Every part of Edward's body, his organs, all ached, but the combined pain couldn't compare to the intense shock of Evelyn shielding Ulysses from the bullet.
Evelyn, his wife, even if she was his ex-wife, instead of worrying about Edward, who was attacked, her first instinct was to protect the assailant Ulysses, who tried to kill Edward!
Edward thought to himself, 'Evelyn, you can't treat me like this. Even if you want to protect Ulysses, you can't do this. It's clear you are an accomplice to a murderer!'
"Evelyn!" Ulysses widened his eyes, grabbing Evelyn's trembling shoulder, his palm stained with a bloody red!
Ulysses gasped, his heart splitting with hatred, the pain twisting like a knife. "Eric Clark! I'll kill you!"
Eric was completely stunned, the gun replica in his hand dropping suddenly.
Evelyn appeared so quickly that Eric had no time to react. Otherwise, he wouldn't have fired that shot.
"Ulysses..."Evelyn leaned softly against Ulysses, resting on his shoulder, gritting her teeth. "If you want me to recognize you as a brother, you better disappear from here right now! Otherwise, I'll never forgive you!"
"But Evelyn, you..." Ulysses still wanted to say something.
Evelyn, with crimson eyes, forcefully pushed Ulysses away, showing that she was truly angry with Ulysses, and if he didn't leave now, he would lose Evelyn for good!
So, Ulysses had no choice but to leave with resentment, quickly contacting Landon to take Evelyn to get medical help.
Evelyn breathed a sigh of relief for the moment, not caring about her own injuries, hurriedly checking Edward's condition.
"Eric, call an ambulance right now, Bart and Edward need to be taken to the hospital for treatment."
"But you're injured too! You need treatment right away as well!" Eric felt guilty, his voice breaking.
"I know my condition. There's no significant injuries." Evelyn gritted her teeth, reaching out to give Edward a preliminary check.
"Stop pretending, Lily, and get out of here." Edward lay on the ground, panting, his eyes burning with anger.
Edward hated that Evelyn helped Ulysses escape, but more than that, he was worried about Evelyn's condition worsening and wanted her to seek medical help!
"After I check you, I'll leave, far away." Evelyn, with long lashes lowered, stubbornly felt Edward's legs with her soft hands to check for any fractures.
Edward's handsome cheeks showed bruises, blood seeping from his thin lips, his once immaculate suit now a mess.
Edward wasn't heartless, he was definitely concerned.
That unreliable Ulysses, he was too ruthless!
"I told you to leave now! Don't you understand?" Edward, both angry and anxious, shouted at Evelyn.
"No! You have been injured once. You can't take it lightly! I must make sure you're okay before I leave!" Evelyn was also anxious, her eyes red as she shouted back.
Edward locked eyes with Evelyn's serious and beautiful face, feeling a wave of doubt.
How did Evelyn know about his old injuries? Did Eric tell her?
Soon, the ambulance arrived and took Edward and Bart to the nearest hospital for treatment.
Fortunately, Edward only had superficial wounds, there was no muscle or bone damage, and his old injuries didn't resurface, which finally relieved Evelyn.
At the hospital, Eric stayed by Evelyn's side. Except when he had to step aside to remove the steel ball from her shoulder, he was there with her all the time.
"How is it? Did it hit the bone?" Eric was nervous seeing Evelyn come out of the treatment room with a pale face.
Evelyn smiled, shaking her head. "I’ll just take a few stitches. I'll be fine."
"Just a few stitches?" Eric felt his heart skip a beat, his arms suddenly stopped in mid-air, filled with self-blame and worry. "Will there be any lasting effects? Will there be any inconvenience in movement? Lily, don't hide anything from me, you must tell me the truth!"
Evelyn smiled, teasingly. "Are you saying that if I'm not disabled, it won’t be enough for your concern? If I were really disabled, and this arm couldn't be lifted in the future, what would you do?"
"Marry you, "Eric answered without hesitation.
Evelyn's eyes widened slightly. "What?"
Eric swallowed hard, his eyes reddened, his voice hoarse. "I will take full responsibility for you. Lily, if you are truly disabled, then I will marry you, and I will never let you suffer again!"
