Chapter 389 Wanting to Keep Her
Evelyn quickly arrived at Edward's private villa using the address Eric had sent her.
As she stood in front of the villa, she couldn't quite describe her feelings.
She felt suppressed, wronged, and heartbroken.
This villa was one of Edward's private properties, but it was the one he stayed in most often, as she had learned from May.
May had mentioned that when Edward was in a bad mood or didn't want to return to Riverside Villa, he would come to this villa to spend the night, rather than staying with another woman. This was meant to comfort Evelyn, who often found herself alone.
At that time, May had even suggested she come here to find Edward, but she had refused.
She thought that his bad mood was because he couldn't see the person he wanted to see, and returning to Riverside Villa would only mean seeing a woman he didn't want to see.
Why should she humiliate herself? It was better to quietly be a transparent person by his side.
But then that day came, Evelyn and Byron had a car accident, and she lost her and Edward's child in that accident.
One night while she was recovering in the hospital, she received a call from Nicole, who had called from overseas.
"Evelyn, do you think marrying Edward means you really have him? You'll never truly have him. We've been together every day recently."
"Edward even gave me a necklace that's one of a kind in the world. Has he ever given you anything like that since you married him?"
"And the villa by the lake, that's a gift from Edward to me. We used to meet there often. Did he ever tell you about that?"
After that call, Evelyn had such an emotional breakdown that she had another severe hemorrhage that night, putting her in a critical condition.
Although Donna, Joyce, and Susan arrived in time to take care of her day and night, she was left with a lasting condition.
She might never be able to have children again.
For a woman who had always hoped to have her own children, this was a devastating blow.
But fortunately, all of that was in the past.
With the care of her family, Evelyn had gradually healed her emotional wounds. Her life wasn't just about marriage and children; she had her father, her mothers, her siblings, and a vast world waiting for her to explore.
However, all connections and possibilities with Edward were gone.
Evelyn took a deep breath and rang the doorbell.
No one answered for a long time, and she wondered if Eric was inside.
She frowned and impatiently pushed the door.
To her surprise, it wasn't locked!
Evelyn, always a cautious person, immediately felt a sense of foreboding and walked into the living room with her heart pounding.
The villa wasn't particularly large, not even as spacious as her own villa in Mugden.
But this place inexplicably feels very cozy and warm, resembling a home. It is far from the extravagant and soulless atmosphere of Riverside Villa.Thinking of this, Evelyn's long lashes trembled, and she felt even more suppressed.
"Eric, are you there? Eric?"
The villa was silent, with no response.
Evelyn grew more worried and quickly went upstairs to search every room.
Finally, she opened the door to the last room in the hallway. The air inside was noticeably warmer than in the other rooms, and she could faintly sense Edward's strong, vibrant presence.
This must be Edward's room.
Despite being married for three years, the deep familiarity they had with each other was something she couldn't ignore.
Through the slightly ajar door, Evelyn could faintly hear Edward's increasingly heavy and rapid breathing.
It sounded like he was in some kind of pain.
"Edward?"
She called out to him with a tight throat, not expecting a response.
"Evelyn, Evelyn."
Evelyn couldn't wait any longer and quickly pushed the door open.
The room was dimly lit, and Edward was lying flat on the bed, one long leg stretched out and the other bent. His black suit was crumpled on the floor, and his white shirt was unbuttoned, revealing his muscular chest, flushed with a sexy red hue, rising and falling.
"Evelyn, I feel terrible, Evelyn."
Edward's lips parted slightly, his breathing erratic, his handsome face flushed, and his gaze at Evelyn was confused and dazed.
He thought he was dreaming. Evelyn despised him, so why would she come to find him?
But he still wanted to hold onto her, even if it was just a dream.
People often saw what they truly wanted and understood their own feelings when they were at their most vulnerable.
Evelyn's heart sank, and she quickly walked to the bedside to check on him.
Suddenly, Edward grabbed her slender wrist, and she gasped as the room spun around her.
In the blink of an eye, Edward had pinned Evelyn's soft body beneath him. The intense heat of his presence enveloped her, his bloodshot eyes staring intently at her, his increasingly erratic breathing filling her ears. Her neck flushed, and her body trembled.
"Edward, what are you doing? Let go of me!"
"Evelyn, I've been drugged. I feel terrible. I feel like my body is on fire, like it's going to explode."
Edward's eyes were filled with desire for her, as if they could ignite into a blazing fire at any moment.
"You've been drugged? How could that be?" Evelyn's eyes widened, and she instinctively reached out to touch his sweaty forehead.
This time, Edward didn't dodge.
His gaze softened, staring straight at her, obediently.
"Oh my God, you're burning up!"
Evelyn was startled and tried to pull her hand back, but Edward grabbed it and pressed it against his forehead.
"Touch me again."
Edward couldn't control his restless heart, couldn't suppress the feelings he thought he had buried, and murmured as he gazed at her, "Evelyn, do you know how long I've waited for this moment, how long I've thought about it?"
