Chapter 294: First Snow

Everything in Gilbert's home was brand new, indicating that he had just moved in.

The villa was decorated in a minimalist style with black, white, and gray tones. At a glance, Evelyn could tell that all the furniture and appliances were top-tier brands, exuding a low-key luxury.

As soon as she entered, she felt a bit cold and lightly shrugged her shoulders.

It wasn't that the heating was insufficient, but the visually oppressive chill created by the empty space combined with the monotonous colors.

"Evelyn, are you feeling a bit cold?"

Gilbert personally took out a pair of pure white women's plush slippers from the shoe cabinet, knelt on one knee, placing them at Evelyn's feet, "Put on the slipper; I'll turn up the heat."

Evelyn's long eyelashes fluttered as she slid her feet into the warm, fluffy and very comfortable slippers.

The slippers were new, and even the size was just right as if they were specially prepared for her.

"Mr. Alexander, you're back," Patricia Collins, who had been taking care of Gilbert and Angela for years, came out with a smile to greet them.

"Evelyn, this is Patricia," Gilbert introduced with a smile, "Patricia, this is..."

"I know! This must be the Ms. Taylor you've been constantly thinking about, right? Hello, Ms. Taylor!" Patricia was extremely enthusiastic, repeatedly looking Evelyn up and down. "So beautiful, truly a stunning beauty! Even more beautiful than the Miss Aurora Isle pageant winner!"

Evelyn's cheeks blushed, her beautiful eyes curved in shyness, "Thank you for the compliment, Patricia."

"Come in, please.. It's very cold outside. Mrs. Alexander is waiting for you!"

"Come in, please. It's very cold outside. Mrs. Alexander is waiting for you!" Patricia led them to the living room, frequently looking back at them and thinking they were a perfect match.

Evelyn felt a bit uneasy.

In her memory, she could no longer clearly recall Angela's appearance.

When she visited the Alexander family as a child, it was always Elbert who greeted them while Angela rarely appeared. On the few occasions they met, she only remembered Angela as a gentle and kind woman.

"Mom!"

Hearing Gilbert's call, Angela, wrapped in a camel-colored blanket and in a wheelchair, slowly turned her head.

Evelyn caught her breath, feeling a pang of sadness.

Angela, about the same age as Aunt Donna, was already white-haired but still a beauty in her twilight years.

"Gilbert! You're back!" Angela smiled. Despite her age, her smile was still beautiful, hinting at how stunning she must have been in her youth.

Gilbert quickly walked over, hugging Angela, "Mom, Ms. Taylor is here to see you."

"Is it Evelyn?" Angela's expression was lively like a child's, looking at Evelyn with eyes full of affection. "Quick! Patricia, Patricia!"

"I'm here!" Patricia responded quickly.

"Quick, get some juice for Evelyn, and take some candy for her!"

"Okay!" Patricia hurriedly took a handful of colorful candies, enthusiastically offering them to Evelyn, "Ms. Taylor, have some candy."

Evelyn was a bit surprised as she accepted the candy.

She hadn't expected Angela to welcome guests in such a unique way—by giving out candy.

"Gil, you should bring the kids over to play often! Don't worry about disturbing my rest; I'm just afraid you'll be lonely with no one to play besides," Angela said, looking worriedly at Gilbert.

Evelyn was taken aback, her shocked gaze slowly falling on Gilbert.

"Mom, don't worry. With Evelyn by my side, I won't feel lonely at all." A flash of sadness crossed Gilbert's eyes as he gently patted Angela's back. "Even if all the kids ignore me, Evelyn never will."

"Good. Evelyn, you're always welcom to come over and play with Gil!" Angela looked at Evelyn kindly, as if Evelyn were still the little girl from fifteen years ago.

"Thank you, Mrs. Alexander," Moved, Evelyn walked over, knelt on one knee in front of Angela, and raised her beautiful face with a bright smile. "With me as Gil's friend, you can rest assured!"

Gilbert took off his suit jacket. His tall, slender figure in a white shirt and gray vest exuded nobility as he headed to the kitchen.

Although Evelyn was a guest, she felt a bit embarrassed to have Gilbert cook for her.

"Let me help you. You don't even have a chef, and there are so many dishes to prepare," Evelyn followed him to the kitchen.

"It's okay, everything is ready. Seafood is easy to cook, it won't take long," Gilbert looked at her with concern, saying in a soft voice. "Evelyn, I remember you're allergic to smoke. The kitchen has fumes; you should go to the living room and chat with my mother."

Evelyn tensed up, her clear eyes flashing with surprise, "How do you know I'm allergic to smoke?"

"Do you remember? When Uncle Charlie brought you to my home as a child, Calvin insisted on having a barbecue, so some servants were grilling in the backyard.

When the smoke drifted over, Uncle Charlie anxiously carried you away, saying you were allergic to smoke. I still remember how he worried and angry he was, he even scolded my dad."

Gilbert added, chuckling, "It shows how much Uncle Charlie dotes on you."

Evelyn stared at him, a complex emotion welling up inside her, slowly rising and filling her nose.

She tried to hold back, but her eyes still reddened with a glistening tear.

She had spent three years with Edward, cooking for him, yet he never knew she was allergic to smoke. Meanwhile, a small incident from over a decade ago was still remembered by Gilbert.

"It's okay, let me help you," Evelyn stood beside him at the sink. She lowered her head, skillfully handling the fresh ingredients.

Gilbert's eyes darkened, his Adam's apple moved slightly as he quietly took a step closer to her, "Evelyn, thank you."

"You invited me to dinner; I should be thanking you."

"It's not just for that."

With a bitter smile on his face, Gilbert spoke with a voice tinged with hoarseness, "You've seen my mother's condition. She's been having significantly memory issues. Sometimes she doesn't recognize me, and sometimes she thinks I'm still a child."

"I understand, it's one of the symptoms of Alzheimer's," Evelyn sighed softly.

"Thank you for being willing to help me make her happy. I really appreciate it."

Looking at each other, they accidently bumped foreheads together.

They both paused, then laughed.

Inside the villa, it was warm and joyful. Meanwhile, it was freezing, with a biting north wind outside.

Edward stood like a statue outside the villa. With his longing eyes, he stared intently at the bright, warm lights.

He didn't know how long he had been standing there, nor how much longer he would continue to stand.

He had only one thought at that moment, 'I'll wait for her until she comes out to see me. She'll come out, right?'

Edward felt a cool sensation on his face, a chill that seeped into his bones and spread throughout his body.

It was the first snow of the winter in Mugden. He slowly looked up, seeing fine, crystalline snowflakes falling on his pale face, melting into his bloodshot eyes.

If they could share the snow together today, it would mean they were together in this lifetime.

He thought, 'Evelyn, I want to share this first snow with you.'

Edward exhaled a hot breath, trembling as he took out his phone and dialed Evelyn.
