Chapter 386 Conspiracy
Edward didn't look up at Lori but continued drinking, saying indifferently, "It's fine, I didn't take it to heart."
"Lori, you can't be so reckless in the future. You're also a daughter of the Taylor family. How can you behave like this?" Bradley sternly criticized Lori, "You should learn from your cousin Evelyn. Everyone says she looks down on you, and even I, as your father, am starting to look down on you!"
"Dad, I'm sorry. I'll learn from Evelyn from now on."
Lori bit her lip lightly, tears welling up in her eyes. "I think if I work hard enough, Evelyn will eventually accept me, right? She won't look down on me like she used to."
"Look down on you?" Edward's eyes darkened, and he raised his eyebrows coldly. "I was married to Evelyn. I know her better than anyone. When she was with me, she never looked down on even a servant from the Wellington family. How could she look down on her own cousin?"
Eric nodded frequently from the side.
"I didn't mean that." Lori blushed with anxiety.
"I know Evelyn, so I don't believe your words. But I advise you not to speak ill of her to others if you are as close as Evelyn says."
A cold glint flashed in Edward's eyes. He didn't utter a single threatening word to Lori, but every sentence carried a strong sense of oppression.
Lori was completely flustered and kept giving Bradley pleading looks.
"You can't even speak properly, making Mr. Wellington misunderstand!"
Bradley tried to smooth things over. "Lori, quickly offer Mr. Wellington a drink and apologize properly!"
"Mr. Wellington, for my sake, please don't blame Lori. She's straightforward and doesn't think before she speaks or acts. For Evelyn's sake, can you not be mad at her?"
It couldn't get more humble than this, but Bradley had no choice. He felt that if he didn't lower himself, Edward would walk away!
Edward respected Charlie, and since Bradley was Charlie's brother, he had to consider Charlie.
At this moment, a waiter came over with a tray of champagne glasses.
Lori casually picked up two glasses, keeping one for herself and handing the other to Edward.
"Mr. Wellington, I offer you a drink. I will be more cautious with my words and actions in the future."
Edward had just finished his champagne and was feeling frustrated, so he took the drink from Lori and downed it in one go.
Lori's eyes curved into crescent moons, and she also drank her glass of champagne generously.
"Eric, I have some business partners from KnightSpear Group who are very interested in the Clark Group. Why don't you come over and chat with us? Maybe we can facilitate more collaborations?" Bradley invited Eric like a kind elder.
Eric's eyes lit up.
He wasn't just a womanizer; he was also a money-grubber. He would go wherever there was a business opportunity. After all, if he wanted to compete with Neil, he had to expand his network in the business world. That was his main goal for coming tonight.
"Edward, I'm heading over there!"
With that, Eric left with Bradley.
Eric left Edward and Lori alone, and Edward's face looked grim.
"Mr. Wellington, there's a dance later. Would you mind joining me..." Lori took the opportunity to invite Edward.
But before she could finish, Edward shot her a cold, piercing look.
She was so scared that her tongue almost tied up, and she didn't dare to reveal her little thoughts.
"Ms. Taylor, you should know that I am your cousin Evelyn's ex-husband." Edward's profile was as sharp as a blade, beautiful yet intimidating.
He finally spoke to her, but it was still about Evelyn.
"Yes, I know." Lori answered.
"So, I think you should be mindful of the impact, especially when Evelyn is present. You shouldn't appear in front of me."
Lori didn't know if she was bewitched, but she misunderstood his words and blushed, asking, "Does that mean, when Evelyn is not around, I can..."
"I think, at other times, you won't have the chance to meet me at all. So I automatically disregard it. Don't overthink it." Edward's eyes were as cold as a knife, and he picked up another glass of champagne and drank it.
Lori was embarrassed. She had always been successful in the dating scene, with men chasing after her persistently. This was the first time she had lowered herself to pursue a man.
But it didn't matter. Edward was totally worth it!
If she could become Edward's wife, she and Bradley no longer have to rely on others.
Edward drank one glass after another, and anyone with eyes could see that he was in a bad mood.
Lori sat beside him, drinking with him and observing his reactions.
A faint, imperceptible sneer flashed in her eyes.
Just now, when Bradley had the waiter bring the drinks, the conspiracy had already quietly unfolded.
'Drink more, and you'll forget about Evelyn. In your eyes, there will only be me.'
After Evelyn and Adrian came out of the back garden, they didn't rush back.
But it wasn't because she couldn't bear to leave Edward. She had come all this way and wanted to check on her "old friend" Tiffany.
However, after wandering around for a while, she still hadn't seen Tiffany, making Adrian a bit impatient.
"What exactly are you looking for?"
"Looking for someone."
"Who?"
"None of your business." Evelyn was focused on finding her nemesis and didn't want to waste words with him.
"What's with the secrecy?"
Adrian pouted. "By the way, since Edward doesn't want me to treat him, does that mean I can go back soon?"
"No." Evelyn answered decisively.
"Why not! I have things to do. I can't waste time here with you!"
"I'll go see Grandpa tomorrow and ask him to persuade Edward. Even if Edward doesn't listen to me, he will definitely listen to Grandpa." Evelyn was determined to handle this matter. Once she made up her mind, no one could change it.
Just as Adrian was about to complain, Evelyn suddenly gestured for him to be quiet.
Not far away, two people walked out of the lounge: Tiffany's personal assistant and a servant.
Evelyn quickly pulled Adrian behind a pillar to spy on them.
