Chapter 254 Evelyn, I Like You

Evelyn hit the bathroom to wash off the grime and slipped into a fresh dress. She strolled out, aimlessly wandering to clear her head and sober up.

Thinking about William kneeling in front of her, wiping wine off her feet in front of everyone, made her feel all kinds of awkward.

He'd always been super attentive to her.

But after that intense hug, she just couldn't handle William's kindness anymore.

They'd grown up together, and she only saw him as the boy next door or a loyal sidekick.

But to him, she was his childhood crush, the girl he loved.

She just couldn't deal with it.

Evelyn sighed, feeling all kinds of frustrated, and suddenly looked up to see William standing stiffly nearby, looking pale.

"Evelyn," he called softly.

"William? What are you doing here?" Evelyn was a bit surprised.

William's Adam's apple bobbed as he slowly walked up to her. "I was worried about you, so I came to check on you."

"William," Evelyn called suddenly.

"It's been a week already. Why won't you let me come back?" William looked at her deeply, his voice rough.

"Because I'm waiting for you to figure things out," Evelyn said, leaning against the wall, meeting his gentle yet broken gaze. "William, it's been a week. Have you made up your mind?"

"Evelyn, I like you," William confessed, his voice trembling. "You can hate me or despise me, but you can't stop me from admiring you. I never hoped you'd accept me. I didn't even dare to dream of it. But, Evelyn, I don't think I did anything wrong. Is it wrong to like someone?"

Evelyn's eyes tightened.

"But my feelings for you only go as far as liking you. I know that continuing any further would be overstepping and impolite." William forced a bright smile as usual.

"William, you're not wrong. I just can't accept your feelings." Evelyn's lips twisted into a bitter smile. "The Evelyn of today has no confidence to love anyone else, and I've lost all interest in love. So, William, unreciprocated love will die. You need to find someone who loves you back."

Evelyn, who was usually ruthless with men, was exceptionally gentle with William, who cared for her wholeheartedly.

"Evelyn, you'll find someone who truly loves you too." William's throat choked, his eyes reddening.

Evelyn waved her hand nonchalantly and said with a bitter smile, "I've had enough of the pain of love. From now on, I just want to focus on making money. Long live being single!"

"So, can I come back to work for you now?" William blinked his clear eyes pitifully. "I've been so bored this past week that I feel like moss is growing on me."

"Of course, my knight. Please continue to serve your queen." Evelyn, feeling playful, imitated a movie accent and elegantly extended her hand to him.

William smiled with joy, his eyes sparkling like stars. This time, he didn't kneel on one knee but respectfully bent over, taking Evelyn's small hand and gently pressing his warm lips to her delicate hand. "I am willing to serve only you for the rest of my life, my queen."

They looked into each other's eyes, sharing a smile that said everything without words.

At that moment, in a dim corner, Jennifer, who had accidentally witnessed the scene, stared in shock, her heart feeling like a dull knife was twisting inside.

She had thought she had accepted the fact that William loved Evelyn.

But tonight, what she saw shattered her soul, and hot tears streamed down uncontrollably.

Jennifer covered her trembling lips with both hands, not wanting to disturb them, and retreated step by step into the darkness.

The more she loved William, the more it hurt to see him love someone else.

The cruelest thing in the world was to let go.

"By the way, what was up with you tonight?" Evelyn frowned and couldn't help but tap William on the forehead. "No matter what, Gordon is your brother and your parents were there, you can't just side with me without considering the consequences. You need to have your own stance. Otherwise, how would you face your family in the future?"

William's gaze was firm and unwavering. "Evelyn, your stance is my stance."

"As expected of my brother, always looking out for me." Evelyn crossed her arms and squinted her beautiful eyes teasingly.

"Evelyn! I'm flattered.!" William recalled Mr. Taylor acknowledging him as a godson in front of both families and waved his hands in panic. "That was just Mr. Taylor putting pressure on Gordon, playing along with the situation! I won't take it seriously!"

"You don't know Charlie well enough. Charlie never just goes with the flow. If he acknowledges you, he means it. Plus, dealing with someone like Gordon, who only cares about money, Charlie could crush him with a snap of his fingers. He just doesn't wanna cause a family feud." Evelyn smiled and patted his shoulder. "Alright, don't stress. Being a godson is way better than being an illegitimate kid, right?"

William almost choked on his own spit.

Jennifer stumbled and ran to the other end of the hallway.

She'd had quite a bit to drink tonight, and with her bad mood, the booze and tears blurred her vision, making it hard to see straight.

Her legs were wobbly, her head was spinning, and she almost fell a few times.

'Damn this villa, why is it so big? I actually get lost in my own home!' she thought.

"William, William," Jennifer panted, softly murmuring his name.

Suddenly, she bumped into a "wall," causing her nose to ache and tears to flow uncontrollably.

Just as she was about to fall backward, Gordon reached out in time, his large hand gripping her waist and lifting her up.

Jennifer's vision blurred, and she found herself crashing into Gordon's arms.

"Be careful," Gordon said.

She was even more drunk now, squinting her watery eyes. The blurry male figure in front of her had a bit of William's shadow. Her heart pounded uncontrollably.

"William," Jennifer said in a low voice.

"You've got the wrong guy. I'm not William; I'm Gordon." Gordon's eyes, which bore a slight resemblance to William's, darkened, and his lips curled up playfully.

"If you're not William, then let go of me." Jennifer, never having been held by a man like this before, blushed with embarrassment and struggled in Gordon's arms. Her legs were weak, but her hands pressed against Gordon's chest, trying to push him away.

"What? Only William can hold you? Do you like him?" Gordon's deep eyes traced Jennifer's delicate face.

Her forehead was slightly sweaty, and her tender face showed a tempting blush, giving off a pure yet seductive vibe that made one want to mess with her.

Jennifer had perfectly inherited Joyce's beauty, looking fresh and delicate.

Gordon, being a normal guy, naturally felt his heart flutter at the sight of a beautiful woman.

"No, it's not like that." Jennifer's face turned even redder.

"In that case, let me take you back to rest." Gordon's large hand on her slender waist didn't loosen a bit.

"No, I can manage on my own," Jennifer said.

"You can barely stand, so don't push yourself." Gordon leaned in slightly, his face close to hers, almost to the point of kissing. If it weren't for Jennifer's hands on his chest, their bodies would be intimately close. "When we were kids, it wasn't just William; I saw you too. You don't have to be so polite with me."

"Jennifer!" A voice called out anxiously, making Jennifer instantly sober up!

If William hadn't arrived in time, Gordon might have really taken advantage of her, almost kissing her!

Gordon quickly put on a gentlemanly face, steadying Jennifer and casting a cold glance at William.

"Jennifer, why are you with Gordon?" William asked with a slightly trembling voice, full of anxiety.

Earlier, he had seen Jennifer in Gordon's arms, their bodies pressed together. From his angle, it looked like Gordon was about to kiss her, and she didn't seem to resist at all. His chest tightened, and he swallowed hard.

Jennifer's heart trembled, and she raised her hand to rub her eyes.

"Answer me, please!" William, very anxious, took a step forward.

Gordon's eyes darkened, and he stepped in front of the pale-faced Jennifer. "She was drunk and almost fell. I happened to be there and helped her. What's wrong?"

"Did you really just want to help her?" William gritted his teeth and asked.

Thinking of the way Gordon looked at Jennifer, his heart tightened.

"What do you mean by that? Are you implying I'm some kind of scoundrel?" Gordon frowned and laughed, as if he had been greatly wronged. "I'm a lawyer; I understand the law. This is her home, and the Taylor family is here. What do you think I could do? Unlike you, who is now Mr. Taylor's godson and highly valued by Ms. Taylor, you can do whatever you want. Jennifer is under my care, so you don't need to worry. You should go serve your Ms. Taylor."

After saying that, Gordon turned back and gave Jennifer a deep, affectionate look.

At this moment, William was so angry that he couldn't even call out "Gordon," his eyes bloodshot, clenching his fists.

"Gordon." Seeing that they were about to argue in front of her, Jennifer weakly called out to Gordon, "I'm fine now, completely sober. Let's go to the front hall."

"Alright, I'll go with you," Gordon said.
