Chapter 599 Family, Always the Support
Jennifer had just looked so proud, but when she saw her father calling, she lowered her head.
"Jennifer, don't be afraid."
William held her tightly, gazing at her with eyes as bright as dawn yet deeply affectionate. "I'm here with you. I'll go home with you, and if Mr. Taylor blames you for this, I'll definitely protect you."
"How... how will you protect me? Dad can be really fierce when he loses his temper." Jennifer's cherry lips trembled as she spoke nervously.
William chuckled softly by her ear. "I'll just say, 'Mr. Taylor, if you want to get angry, direct it at me. Don't hurt your relationship with your daughter.'"
Jennifer's heart suddenly skipped a beat. She felt a tingling electric current spread through her entire body. Her fair little face blushed with shy redness, like a budding flower, making William linger, unable to look away for even a moment.
The young couple was discussing things quite nicely, but it worried Evelyn terribly.
It wasn't that she feared Charlie - she was afraid Charlie would blame Jennifer and maybe ground her or something, which would make things even harder for them.
Charlie's call kept ringing.
Edward naturally understood her dilemma, so he spoke seriously, "Evelyn, if you're in a difficult position, let me talk to Mr. Taylor."
"You?" Evelyn blinked. "What would you say?"
The man looked thoughtful, lifting the corner of his lips with a gentle and sincere gaze, copying the approach. "I'll just say it was all my idea, and it has nothing to do with Evelyn, Jennifer, or William. If you want to hit or scold someone, direct it at me, please don't..."
"Stop! You're just making things worse!"
Evelyn pouted angrily and poked his solid chest hard with her finger. "When I say that, it's being clever and charming, but when you say it to Charlie, it's pushing your luck. Don't you want things to work out between us?"
Seeing Evelyn getting anxious, Edward panicked too. He quickly grabbed her hand and pressed it against his chest. "I was wrong, I was just... joking."
But actually, he didn't think it was a joke at all.
His top priority in life right now was to marry Evelyn and become part of Charlie's family. Everything else had to take a back seat.
Evelyn steadied herself, prepared what to say, and answered the call.
"Dad."
"Is Jennifer with you?" Charlie asked bluntly.
"Yes, she is." Evelyn's heart was pounding too.
"Let her answer the phone." Charlie's low voice carried heavy urgency.
Evelyn took a breath, looking quite serious. "Dad, what's done is done. Blaming Jennifer won't help. Instead of losing your temper, you should think about how to handle the aftermath."
Charlie rolled his eyes on the other end of the phone. "Hah, Evelyn, is that really how you see me? As some stupid old fool who can't think straight?"
Evelyn raised an eyebrow, thinking to herself: Well, well, worthy of being a top boss - that self-awareness is spot on.
Charlie's voice was loud enough that Edward and the others could hear clearly, too.
Jennifer felt terrible knowing Evelyn was taking the heat for her.
Just as she was about to take the phone, Charlie sighed heavily. "Do you think blocking me like this will help? I know you're at the KnightSpear Group World Hotel in Mugden. With my personality, if I were really angry, Jennifer would already be tied up and brought back to Oasis Villa by now."
Edward silently thought to himself that they really were father and daughter - they had the same temper when angry.
Charlie's tone softened. "I'm not calling to blame Jennifer. Hurry up, I'm really worried. I want to hear her voice."
Evelyn's eyes widened slightly as she handed the phone to Jennifer. "Jennifer, Dad wants to talk to you."
Jennifer's lips turned white as she nervously took the phone and carefully held it to her burning ear.
"Dad..."
"Jennifer, the outside world is in chaos because of your livestream. But you picked a pretty smart location - your own family's hotel, where you can advance or retreat. That's clever. Did you learn that from Evelyn?" Charlie said mockingly.
"No... no..."
Jennifer was extremely shy and flustered. "Dad, I'm sorry... this is all my fault. Please don't blame Evelyn..."
"How are you feeling right now? Are you feeling any better?"
Her father's sudden question left Jennifer stunned. "Huh?"
"Dad knows that incident has been bothering you all along, and you've never been able to let it go. Your mother hides in her room almost every night, crying for you in secret."
"If standing up tonight to expose Randy's horrible actions can make you feel better... then Dad completely supports your decision." Charlie's deep, magnetic voice was low and gentle, as if afraid of frightening his timid daughter.
A strong wave of emotion surged through her heart, making Jennifer's eyes instantly turn red. "Dad... I..."
"My dear daughter, don't cry, and don't feel like you've wronged anyone. You were incredibly brave tonight. You're the pride of your dad and your mother."
The famous business tycoon's throat suddenly choked up slightly, but he still forced himself to hold it back and laughed boldly. "From now on, be open and confident. Don't always be afraid to speak up or act. You're Charlie's daughter - if anyone dares look down on you, I'll crush them!"
Hot tears spilled from Jennifer's eyes, streaming down her delicate cheeks.
After hanging up, Evelyn's phone was soaking wet, like it had been pulled out of water.
Seeing this, both Evelyn and Edward were very worried. William was even more distressed, fumbling to pull out a handkerchief from inside his jacket to wipe Jennifer's tears. His heart ached so much he could barely breathe, but he didn't dare ask too many questions.
"Jennifer, did Charlie... scold you?" Evelyn asked gently.
Jennifer shook her head and said tearfully, "Dad said... I'm his pride."
With that, she turned around, buried her wet face in William's chest, and cried uncontrollably.
Since childhood, although she had been an excellent student, every member of her family was outstanding - who among them couldn't stand on their own?
She was too dim, too unremarkable. The deep-rooted sense of inferiority made her afraid to ask her father for anything, no matter what good grades she achieved.
But now, thinking she had caused a huge disaster and feeling terrified, she wasn't despised or resented. Instead, she received her father's praise.
Jennifer was overwhelmed with mixed emotions, tears flowing like a fountain, but every drop was a tear of joy.
Hearing this, the young couple were both stunned, then smiled at each other in understanding.
"Charlie really scared me."
Evelyn patted her chest but felt indescribably relieved. "But fortunately, he was quite rational this time and didn't do anything foolish."
Edward's anxious heart also settled down. He caught her hand and held it, threading his fingers through hers and slowly clasping them together.
"Jennifer, continue to be brave from now on. We will always be your strongest support."
"Please, no more of that. I'm not trying to be a downer, but tonight my heart has been like a roller coaster - beating so fast it's about to fly off the tracks! Two more times like this and I'll have a heart attack!"
Evelyn lightly elbowed the man. "You're too indulgent. Among the Taylor family girls, one warrior goddess like me is enough."
Jennifer's livestream caused a huge uproar!
Originally, Randy had been released on bail due to insufficient evidence, and the Alexander family had privately bought negative news about two celebrities to successfully divert public attention and suppress the matter.
However, who could have expected that Jennifer, who should have kept quiet, would publicly stand up to speak for those girls and, as a victim herself, sound the horn of fierce attack against Randy!
Overnight, the Alexander family was pushed back into the spotlight.
For Randy, who had just thought he'd escaped disaster, this was definitely bad news even without evidence, because the police were watching him again!
"Outrageous!"
Elbert flew into a rage, once again transforming into a janitor and clearing his desk with a sweep. "A concubine's daughter who should know her place dares to openly challenge the Alexander family!"
Calvin also gritted his teeth in agreement. "Does she think she can act like Evelyn? Forget about others - I bet Charlie will be the first one who won't tolerate this!"
Randy sat to the side, his eyes blazing with hatred, his prosthetic limb shaking with a rattling sound!
He really regretted it now.
He should have hired some thugs to kidnap Jennifer and gang-rape her! Even if he couldn't have her himself, he should have had that bitch violated to vent his anger!
Now with this complication, the Taylor family would definitely protect her closely, and even if he wanted to make a move, he'd have no chance.
"Calvin, complaining like a resentful woman is completely pointless right now."
Gilbert remained calm and collected, picking up his coffee cup and gently blowing on it. "I've already sent my PR team to clean up unfavorable comments about Randy online. At least this way, it looks better to outsiders."
Randy's face showed no gratitude toward Gilbert whatsoever. Any fool could see this was just his way of flattering and pleasing their father!
Then he thought again - this venomous snake, Gilbert, was truly ruthless.
Jennifer was Evelyn's sister after all. If he had any human decency, even if his position forced him to do nothing, he shouldn't be helping him.
But the reality was that even though she was Evelyn's relative, he didn't care at all. As long as it benefited him, he would sell out or use anyone.
Randy's lips twitched.
This wild dog didn't love Evelyn at all - he only loved himself!
"Gilbert, you're so sharp and quick to react! You're the youngest, but you handle things so efficiently!" Elbert loved this kind of thing and immediately looked at Gilbert with new respect, praising him generously.
"Dad, you're too kind. I'm just doing my small part for our family." Gilbert's eyes curved as he smiled modestly.
Calvin's gums ached from gritting his teeth. He wished he could put arsenic in this guy's coffee!
"Dad, don't get too angry. It's bad for your health."
Gilbert continued to advise, "Although Randy's matter has been brought up again, from what I've roughly seen, there's more online questioning and criticism directed at Miss Taylor."
"I think next, Calvin just needs to hire more online trolls and fan the flames a bit more. That should divert the fire focused on Randy, right?"
Calvin stared at Gilbert's eyes like they were flaming cannons!
This bastard Gilbert was trying to win their father's favor while dragging him down, too; this way, the money for hiring trolls would have to come from his account!
"Right, right! Gilbert's right, let's do that! Smear that little bitch from the Taylor family!"
Elbert immediately ordered, "Calvin, handle this right away!"
Just as Calvin was about to protest, the butler came running in frantically:
"Elbert! This... this is bad! The police are at the door!"
