Chapter 86 Chased All the Way Home!

In the study, Edward sat on the sofa, rubbing his aching temples, elbows on his knees, leaning forward, and looking miserable.

His headache had started on the way back, and listening to their nonsense made it worse.

"No matter what, they have no right to criticize Lily!"

"Mr. Wellington! Is your headache acting up again? I'll get you some medicine!" May quickly found painkillers and warm water, helping him take the medicine.

After taking it, Edward felt some relief, and his expression softened.

"Mr. Wellington, it's not good to keep taking medicine like this! Remember how Mrs. Wellington's acupuncture used to help? Maybe she could come back and help you," May suggested gently.

"May," Edward's eyes reddened, his voice choked, "Did they say Lily cooked at Riverside Villa for three years? Is that true?"

"Yes, Mr. Wellington. I always said Mrs. Wellington was diligent, but you thought she was just pretending. Who could fake it for three years? Even if it was an act, her persistence is impressive!"

Edward pressed his lips tightly, turning pale.

May continued, "When Mrs. Wellington first came, her cooking was average. But she asked me to teach her. I told her the servants and cooks would handle it, but she insisted, saying she wanted to contribute more since she couldn't help with your work.

"At first, she would cough from the cooking fumes and had to wear a mask. But she got used to it. Every morning, before I woke up, she was already busy in the kitchen."

'Coughing? Was she allergic to smoke?' Edward felt a suffocating pain, as if the painkillers couldn't help.

May sighed, frustrated and angry, "I've had enough of Debra and Tiffany. Mrs. Wellington has done so much for this family, and they mock her. It's too much!

Mr. Wellington, I hope you two can reconcile, but thinking of what Mrs. Wellington endured at Riverside Villa, I just want her to find a better family and not be bullied anymore."

Edward felt like he'd been hit hard, his brows furrowing deeply.

A few peaceful days passed, and Byron's birthday was approaching.

Thinking about the upcoming divorce, Evelyn felt mixed emotions.

When Edward and I got married, there was no banquet, no announcement. We just went to the civil affairs bureau for the certificate, not even having a meal together.

The marriage certificate was our only photo together. I had a happy smile, leaning slightly towards Edward.

But Edward didn't smile at all, looking stiff like he'd been photoshopped in.

I thought things would get better after marriage, that if I tried hard enough, Edward would fall for me.

But now I understand.

Love might be the only thing that remains futile no matter how hard you try.

Edward, it's not that I didn't try hard enough, but the distance between us is too great.'

"Miss Taylor, this is the wedding planning proposal for Ada Wang, prepared by our hotel's event planning department after several sleepless nights. Please take a look."

William placed the folder in front of her, and Evelyn's eyes lit up as she quickly picked it up to review.

She picked up a pen and made bold marks on the document.

"Here, here, and here—no good. Needs to be changed. This looks like it's from five years ago. And the color scheme is off. Ada Wang hates bright colors. Use more Morandi tones. Take it back and redo it!"

"Yes," William said, feeling sorry for his colleagues.

"Ada Wang's wedding planning needs to be prioritized right after Byron's birthday. We have to outshine the Wellington family this time. Everyone needs to be on their toes, no slacking off," Evelyn said with determination.

"Got it! We can't lose to Edward!" William clenched his fist.

Evelyn smirked, "I don't care about losing to Edward. But if he wants to compete, I'll beat him this time."

Just then, Evelyn's phone rang. It was Susan.

"Aunt Susan, what's up?"

"Evelyn! I got it!"

Evelyn was stunned. "Huh?"

"The Pocotimi wood chair you wanted. I swiped it from your dad!" Susan sounded as happy as a kid.

"Aunt Susan, thank you so much!" Evelyn said, rubbing her hands excitedly.

"No big deal, as long as you're happy!"

"But what if Charlie finds out?" Evelyn worried.

Susan's tone was bold, "No problem!"

That night, after a busy day, William drove Evelyn back to the villa.

Evelyn changed her high heels into soft velvet red slippers, stretched, and prepared to go upstairs for a bubble bath.

"Miss Taylor, I'll run the bath for you," William offered, rolling up his sleeves.

"No need. Just prepare a simple dinner. I can handle it myself," Evelyn smiled wearily.

"Okay, what would you like to eat?"

"Pasta."

Evelyn yawned and went upstairs to bathe.

Meanwhile, William tidied up the living room and then put on an apron to cook pasta.

Just as he finished, the doorbell rang.

'Besides me and Miss Taylor, only Landon and Simon have keys to this villa, and they never ring the doorbell. Who could it be this late? Who knows Miss Taylor lives here?' William frowned and walked to the foyer to press the intercom.

The next second, he gasped.

On the screen was Eric's handsome, defiant face with sword-like eyebrows and eyes!

"Hey! Anyone home?" Eric peeked around.

"Mr. Clark, what are you doing here?" William immediately went on high alert, looking at him coldly.

"I followed you here, of course," Eric said with a shameless smile.

"You! Since when?!"

"Since you left the hotel. You're not a very competent secretary. Didn't even notice you were being followed. Your counter-surveillance skills are weak."

William took a deep breath to calm his anger, speaking coldly, "Miss Taylor is resting and not seeing any guests. Please leave!"

"Her light is still on upstairs. How is she resting?"

Eric blinked, "I'm here to deliver a gift. At least let me give her the gift first, okay?"

"William, who are you talking to?"

At that moment, Evelyn, now dressed in a pale pink silk robe with her long hair wrapped in a white towel, walked over with the warmth of the bath.

"It's..." William found it hard to explain.

Evelyn walked over, her pretty face leaning towards the screen, raising an eyebrow, "It's you."

"Lily! It's me!" Eric's eyes lit up with excitement upon hearing her voice.

"Why are you here?"

"Lily, I brought you a gift. I couldn't wait for you during the day, so I wanted to deliver it personally tonight!"

"Mr. Clark, I made it very clear before, I won't accept your gift, but I appreciate the thought," Evelyn declined calmly.

"This is a crystal artwork I specially flew to Aurora Isle to get from the famous artist LAN. It was hard to come by."

'LAN?!'

Evelyn licked her lips and pressed the door open button.

William facepalmed in disbelief.

'Eric really knows how to get to Miss Taylor's heart with his gifts!'
