Chapter 380 Boyfriend

"Betty is the daughter of Samuel, the chairman of the Anderson Group."

"The Anderson Group? I've heard of them. Not a big company, just has a bit of a name in Mugden, dealing in real estate."

Evelyn, always ready to return and inherit the family business, was well-versed in the domestic market, especially the bosses in Mugden.

"But if I remember correctly, Samuel has a son and a daughter. How did Betty become his daughter?"

Simon's eyes darkened. "She's an illegitimate daughter, never exposed to the public."

"What?" Evelyn stood up abruptly from her chair, staring at Simon in disbelief. "An illegitimate daughter? An illegitimate daughter of the Anderson family?"

"So it's understandable that she hid her background from you," Simon said, feeling a strange discomfort in his heart after seeing Betty's background check.

Compared to those who openly express their sadness and misfortune, Betty, who kept everything to herself, made him feel even more heartache.

"Betty, she's really foolish." Evelyn felt a sharp pain in her heart, making it hard to breathe.

"The two foreign men drinking with Betty last night were Victor Walsh from an overseas construction company, which has business dealings with the Anderson family. Based on Betty's conversation with her father last night, it seems everything was arranged by the Anderson family."

"Unbelievable! He actually let his daughter accompany clients for business? Samuel is a heartless bastard!"

Evelyn slammed the table hard, causing coffee to spill from her cup.

Her eyes were filled with anger. "Simon, I'll handle this matter. Promise me one thing for the next few days. Stay with Betty until she recovers."

Simon was taken aback and didn't respond immediately.

"Can you do it or not?" Evelyn glared at him.

"Of course, whatever you ask, I'll do it," Simon agreed repeatedly.

"Now that you know Betty is an illegitimate daughter, do you look down on her background?"

"Are you insulting me? Do you think I'm that shallow?" Simon's face turned red, feeling a bit anxious.

At that moment, Landon called Evelyn.

"Evelyn, Edward will attend a business reception tonight. You can meet him there."

"Got it," Evelyn replied calmly.

"Evelyn, you could arrange a private meeting with him," Landon suggested earnestly. "Even if you can't be couples or friends, you don't have to completely cut ties."

"Just meeting him is enough. I don't want a private meeting."

Evelyn didn't know why, but she felt a bit afraid to see Edward. She said softly, "Landon, I actually want Adrian to meet Edward. If possible, we can start the treatment. Once he's fully recovered, we can completely cut ties."

Simon returned to the hospital room to find Betty standing by the window, talking on the phone with her back to him.

"I've done enough for the Anderson family over the years. What more do you want from me? Do you want me to sell my blood and body to satisfy you?"

Betty's voice trembled with suppressed anger, and large beads of sweat rolled down her cheeks.

Suddenly, her palm was empty.

Simon had taken her phone while she was off guard and put it to his ear.

Betty looked up, tears streaming down her face, staring in astonishment at Simon's superior profile, which was as beautiful as a masterful sculpture. The righteous look in his eyes inexplicably gave her an unprecedented sense of security.

"Hello," Simon said coldly.

"Who are you?" Samuel asked in surprise.

"With your status, you don't deserve to know who I am."

Simon sneered. "But let me remind you, what you're doing now has crossed the legal line and violated a woman's will. I can sue you at any time."

"Sue me? Who do you think you are? Do you know who I am?" Samuel was both angry and amused.

He thought Simon was just some random guy or a boyfriend of Betty's, standing up for her out of anger, and didn't take him seriously at all.

If he knew he was talking to Simon, the second son of Charlie, he would probably regret it deeply.

"You don't need to shout at me. If you dare to mess with Betty again, just see if I won't deal with you." Simon said with a cold, mocking smile.

"You! You!" Samuel was furious, shouting, "Who the hell are you?"

Simon's Adam's apple bobbed, and with a sudden surge of courage, he wrapped his large hand around Betty's thin shoulder, pulling her into his arms.

Betty was caught off guard and didn't dare to move, her mind in turmoil.

"I'm Betty's boyfriend."

With that, Simon hung up the phone, not giving Samuel a chance to respond.

The air suddenly became very quiet.

Simon was silent, as well as Betty."Don't get me wrong, I just said that in the heat of the moment," Simon quickly tried to save face for his impulsiveness.

"I didn't misunderstand." Betty said with a self-deprecating smile.

She knew Simon was standing up for her because of Evelyn.

She wasn't delusional enough to think that Simon would genuinely care for her.

She didn't have delusions, especially now that her status as an illegitimate daughter of the Anderson family couldn't be hidden anymore. A prestigious family like the Taylor family would never look up to the Anderson family, let alone her.

Simon pursed his lips dryly, looking at her deeply. After hesitating for a while, he asked in a low voice, "Last night, we..."

"Last night, thank you. If you hadn't saved me in time, I would probably be dead by now." Betty sincerely thanked him.

"No, I mean, last night, did you really not remember anything?" Simon asked tentatively, feeling a bit anxious.

"What?" Betty looked at him in confusion.

Simon was silent.

It seemed she really didn't remember.

A strong feeling of being taken advantage of welled up inside him.

"Can you let go of me now?" Betty asked softly, squirming a bit in his arms.

Simon's heart raced, and he quickly let go of her.

Betty clutched her chest and slowly walked back to the bed to sit down.

Simon looked at her thin, frail back, his heart aching. He walked over and asked gently, "What do you want to eat?"

"I want instant noodles," Betty said, looking up at him with clear eyes.

When she was in a bad mood, she always liked to comfort herself with a bowl of hot instant noodles.

"Okay, I'll make it for you."

Simon rolled up his sleeves, planning to cook it himself. He thought Betty was easy to please, satisfied with just a bowl of instant noodles.

"And, add an egg!" Betty grabbed his hand and added a small request.

Simon smiled warmly at her, "Sure, I'll add two for you."
