Chapter 610 Can't We Fall in Love Early?
The next afternoon, Anna finally woke up from her coma.
When she opened her eyes, she saw her mother Nyla, and also Bart, who had been keeping watch by her bedside waiting for her to wake up.
Overwhelmed with emotion, she threw herself into her mother's arms. The mother and daughter, reunited after their ordeal, cried together.
Bart didn't know if it was because he was getting older, but watching this touching scene, he quietly shed tears too, then quickly wiped them away.
"Mom, no matter what you say, I won't change my mind."
Anna gently wiped away her mother's tears, but her eyes were especially firm. "I've decided to testify in court. If I don't try to take control of my own fate, even Ms. Taylor and Mr. Wellington can't help me."
Nyla choked up, "Anna... Mom... just feels so bad for you."
"Mom, if you feel bad for me, then don't stop me from standing up for myself and for the other girls Randy has hurt, from fighting for justice."
Bart's pupils contracted sharply, his heart pounding.
He felt that Anna seemed to have grown up overnight. Her determined, unyielding gaze even reminded him a little bit of Evelyn.
"Anna... it's Mom's fault. Mom was confused before."
Nyla nodded hard, holding Anna tight. "Mom... respects your decision."
Just as Bart was preparing to quietly leave, Anna suddenly smiled gratefully and introduced him to Nyla, "Mom, this is Bart Hanks. He's Mr. Wellington's secretary. Yesterday, he did everything he could to save me. He's my lifesaver."
"Thank you! Thank you so much, Mr. Hanks!" Nyla was deeply grateful.
Bart scratched his head, his cheeks reddening with embarrassment. "Just call me Bart."
"Mom, could you go home today and bring me the fabric I bought, and my toolbox?"
Anna shyly glanced at Bart, pressing her lips together. "I'm bored just lying here in the hospital. I want to... finish making the bag I promised Bart. I don't want to keep him waiting too long."
Bart's breathing became irregular, his violent heartbeat seeming about to burst through his chest. "No, no need Anna! Focus on getting better. Don't let this little thing affect your rest!"
Anna shook her head with a light laugh, her bright eyes looking at him. "It's just a handicraft, it won't tire me out. The thing is, you don't lack anything, so I don't have much to repay you with. This is just a small token of my appreciation. I hope you won't mind."
...
In the adjacent lounge.
Edward and Evelyn sat side by side on the sofa. Edward was handling company business on his laptop, while Evelyn sat beside him with a lunch box, eating seriously.
"Edward, stop working for a bit and eat."
Evelyn held a piece of roast beef to the man's lips. "The beef near this hospital smells really good."
Edward's eyes stayed on the screen, his hands on the keyboard. He leaned toward her, parted his lips to take the meat, and chewed slowly.
Evelyn stared intently at his moving lips with their slight sheen, his prominent Adam's apple, and those lowered long lashes...
Sweet... how could this man look so sexy even eating roast beef! It was killing her!
"Mm... too greasy." Edward frowned slightly.
"You should be grateful to have food at all. This restaurant has lots of good reviews. You're the most difficult one." Evelyn picked up a piece for herself and ate it with enthusiasm.
So cute.
His Evelyn was never pretentious, always adaptable. No matter how uncomfortable or harsh the environment, having her by his side made him feel as comfortable as being at home.
Edward's heart warmed, his deep eyes heating up, and he suddenly kissed her greasy pink lips.
"Ah... I haven't even wiped my mouth. You don't mind?" Evelyn blinked her beautiful eyes, her heart tingling.
"I can't love you enough, how could I mind?"
Edward suddenly brought his handsome face close to hers, their lips less than half an inch apart, as if he wanted to steal the meat from her mouth. "When we get home, I'll cook for you. My cooking is way better than this."
Evelyn wrapped her arms around his neck, lifting her face playfully. "Okay, I'm looking forward to trying it."
The two finished their lunch in a sweet atmosphere.
Evelyn suddenly remembered something and said with a smile, "I noticed Bart seems pretty interested in Anna. Could it be..."
"Not appropriate." Edward frowned and shook his head.
"What? Your secretary can't date?" Evelyn narrowed her eyes slightly, resting her elbow on his broad shoulder.
"Dating is fine, I'm just worried it might affect Anna. She's applying to college this year, right? Can't let it interfere with her studies."
Edward affectionately hooked her chin, but looked worried like a parent. "Besides, they've only known each other for two or three days. How could things develop so fast? I don't believe in love at first sight."
"You don't believe in it?"
Evelyn's warm breath sprayed on his handsome nose. "But I fell in love with you at first sight."
"Evelyn, the first time you saw me was at Thunder Peak, right? You were only eleven years old that year." Edward smiled.
"Yes, I've liked you since I was eleven, Edward." Evelyn didn't hide her love for him at all. Her beautiful eyes rippled with tenderness, like a rose blooming passionately.
Edward suddenly felt his heart go numb and sour, a wave of bitterness surging up, the corners of his eyes turning slightly red.
Although love doesn't care about who came first, what matters most is ending up together.
But hearing her words, he still felt ashamed, like he couldn't even lift his head.
Just then, Evelyn's phone rang.
Seeing it was Peter calling, she quickly answered: "Peter? How is it? Do you have results from the investigation?"
"The guy confessed, and we've identified his background. He's a thug Randy keeps under his command."
They were both shocked. "Who? Randy?"
