Chapter 466 You're Not the Only Friend Anymore

Under Owen's orders, Lloyd's dream of surviving in Torontow was completely shattered.

Moreover, it seemed that the royal family wanted to use this incident as a catalyst to seize more power from the military, weaken its strength, and deal a severe blow to the underworld.

This incident was essentially a power struggle between the royal family and the military, with undercurrents surging.

Otherwise, Lloyd wouldn't have gone to such great lengths.

Nancy told Evelyn about this afterward, but Evelyn, being smart and perceptive, had already guessed it.

What concerned her even more was a name—Sebastian, the military official Billy had mentioned.

Thinking about it, there were many suspicious points, and it was quite bizarre.

But she didn't have time to think about that now; her mind was filled with thoughts of when Edward would be out of danger and wake up from his coma.

Lloyd was temporarily imprisoned awaiting deportation, while on the Mugden side, Peter had already consulted his superiors and took a night flight with his team to Torontow to pick him up.

In the early hours of the morning.

Everyone was in the hospital corridor, but the air was quiet and cold.

Eric and Ulysses were outside making phone calls.

One was communicating with the arriving Peter, and the other was assuring Ellen at home and taking a video look at Molly's adorable sleeping face.

Eric stared intently at Molly on the screen, his overwhelming longing making him feel a bit teary.

He gently touched Molly's cheek on the screen with his fingertip and couldn't help but kiss it with his eyes closed.

"Kissing your phone screen?"

Ulysses suddenly leaned in, startling Eric into quickly ending the video call, afraid of waking Molly.

"What's wrong with you? Why do you have to criticize everything I do?"

"Isn't it because you're full of things to criticize?"

Ulysses stuck a finger in his ear, "If everyone dated like you, I'd rather stay single forever."

"With your inability to talk, you deserve to be single. Any woman who ends up with you would probably get sick from anger!" Eric retorted angrily.

"Say that again?" Ulysses raised an eyebrow mischievously, "Say that again, and I'll tell your girlfriend that you once crazily pursued Evelyn. I'll make her mad at you and have you punished at home!"

Eric clenched his fists in anger but didn't dare to retort.

"I don't get it. Edward is usually so proud and aloof, except when it comes to dating. How did he get so close to you?" Ulysses wondered.

"If it weren't for me, Edward would have been even lonelier and more miserable on this journey!"

Eric ignored his mockery, his eyes showing a hint of pain for Edward, "Do you think Edward doesn't want to make friends? It's because he can't!"

Ulysses paused, genuinely curious, "Why? Does Edward have some psychological issues?"

"Do you have any manners?" Eric glared at him indignantly.

"If he didn't have issues, why did he reject Evelyn and insist on being with that Nicole?"

Ulysses had actually let go of his grudge against Edward.

Thinking about it, he couldn't help but curse Edward, forgetting that Edward was still in a life-and-death situation.

"Edward was bullied by his classmates at school because of his background. To avoid worrying Amanda, he hid his injuries and never told her about his troubles."

"I hate school bullying the most! Some kids aren't even human; they're little devils raised by demons!"

Ulysses angrily crushed his cigarette pack, his temper flaring up, "Was Edward that weak? Couldn't he fight back?"

"One or two people he could handle, but what if one day, everyone turned against you? What if everyone bullied you?" Eric asked, his eyes red with pain.

Ulysses' eyes narrowed sharply, and he clenched his fists.

"Ulysses, you're Mr. Taylor's legitimate son, and your mother was his favorite. Even I grew up in a relatively simple family environment. My parents love each other, and I'm their only son, doted on by them. People like us can't understand the pain Edward felt due to his awkward status, nor the pressure of navigating a complex family."

Ulysses fell into deep thought.

Indeed, Edward wasn't born to the first wife; he had a half-brother, Caleb. Patrick later married the ruthless Tiffany, making Edward's life in the Wellington family likely unbearable.

"So, over the years, Edward had no friends besides me. He instinctively resisted making friends. Besides, he was used to being alone; it didn't matter if no one was with him."

No one truly enjoyed loneliness.

Often, it was just that there was no other choice.

"I take back what I said earlier," Ulysses said out of the blue.

"What?"

"The Clark family's upbringing isn't bad. At least you didn't go with the flow and join in bullying someone just because everyone else did."

Eric suddenly thought of Jessica, of the dirty things she did after returning, of her fierce and unrecognizable face when she bullied Molly.

He smiled bitterly.

"You seem dumb, but you actually know everything." As Ulysses walked past him, he patted his shoulder heavily, "In the future, he won't have just you as a friend."

Eric's heart trembled, and he turned around abruptly.

Ulysses had already walked far away, like a cool breeze.
