Chapter 469 The Dark Past of Aurora Isle
"Going abroad? Did someone tip him off, and he fled overnight?" Evelyn's brows furrowed tightly.
"No, he's been in Mugden recently. Before this incident happened, he wasn't in Torontow."
"Where is he?"
"Mugden."
Evelyn's crystal-clear pupils contracted sharply, and her fists clenched tightly in secret!
She remembered what Landon had told her, that Edward said someone in Mugden was colluding with Torontow, and he was ninety percent sure who that person was!
Why was he so certain? There was only one possibility: he knew this person and knew them well enough!
"Evelyn." Nancy hesitated slightly and said in a low voice, "Things were a bit chaotic yesterday, and I didn't have a chance to talk to you. Now, in front of Wade, I want to ask you properly."
"What is your current relationship with Gilbert from the Alexander family? Are you still close?"
"My relationship with Gilbert is not what you think. I just consider him a friend."
Evelyn's eyes were unreadable. "When we were kids, we often played together; it was a childhood friendship. Later, he and Angela went to Aurora Isle and lived there for more than ten years. After they came back, we reconnected by chance. Over the past year, he has helped me a lot. There were two times when I was in danger, and he saved me."
"I don't doubt that he genuinely cares for you and likes you. But Evelyn, it's best if you have less contact with him. If possible, try to distance yourself when you get back."
Nancy couldn't hide her worry and spoke earnestly, "Moreover, I see that the most important man in your heart is still Mr. Wellington. After going through this ordeal, I believe your feelings for each other must be stronger. You should slowly let go of your resentment and consider starting over with him, right?"
"Mr. Wellington has done a lot for you. Even if you still can't accept him, you shouldn't get close to Gilbert. He is far inferior to Edward; they are worlds apart."
"Gilbert? Which one?" Wade asked curiously.
"Wade, Gilbert is just Gilbert."
Hearing this name, Wade's usually gentle face instantly turned cold as frost, and he spoke coldly, "So he's from the Alexander family. This is an old acquaintance, an 'old friend.'"
The last few words were spoken with anger and hatred, squeezed out through clenched teeth.
"Wade, you know Gilbert? Are you familiar with him? Did you have any conflicts when he was in Aurora Isle?" Evelyn's eyes widened.
Wade sighed and shook his head angrily, "Gilbert was known as the 'King of the Night' and the 'Underground Boss' in Aurora Isle. He controlled a well-known capital group there, colluded with high-ranking officials and dignitaries, and had close ties with criminal organizations."
"He ran underground casinos, bribed officials, engaged in power and sex transactions, and was even suspected of being involved in drug trafficking! But we could never find any evidence against him. He always operated from behind the scenes, and we couldn't punish him severely!"
Evelyn was stunned! It was hard to imagine that the Gilbert Wade described was the same man who had always been so caring towards her! They were two extremes, an angel and a devil.
"Not only that, but Gilbert once manipulated the presidential election in Aurora Isle."
Nancy recalled with lingering fear, tightly holding Wade's hand, "He also schemed against Wade, using public opinion battles. Fortunately, Wade has always been clean and never associated with those people, so they could never find any dirt on him."
"Otherwise, it wouldn't just be a matter of whether he could become president; I might have had to bring him meals in prison."
Evelyn gasped, feeling a chill run down her spine. "When did he become so terrifying? How did he turn into this?"
"Aurora Isle's social environment is complex. Gilbert is not a native, so he had to use means to make a name for himself there. After all, the original accumulation of capital is always brutal. But no matter how brutal, there should be a bottom line." Wade recalled the years of secret battles with Gilbert, narrowly escaping several times, and was still furious.
Evelyn's expression turned pale, and she staggered back half a step.
The current Gilbert must have a deep, scheming mind to hide all these dark sides behind that gentle and elegant smile, without giving anything away.
"So Evelyn, when Landon said someone in Mugden was in contact with the Torontow military, my first reaction was Gilbert."
Nancy's gaze was serious as she looked at her. "But all of this is just speculation. We have no concrete evidence. However, it doesn't hurt to be more cautious. Evelyn, I know you value relationships deeply, and hearing this must be hard for you to accept. Wade and I just want you to stay away from dangerous people and be safe."Evelyn lowered her eyes in deep thought, then looked up again, her gaze icy and resolute. "Maybe he once had a difficult time in a foreign land, but no matter how hard it was, it's not a reason for him to hurt others and build his own interests on their pain!"
"But I still hope Gilbert can confess everything to me personally, for the sake of our acquaintance."
...
"Mr. Alexander! You must help me get rid of this trouble this time!"
Sebastian, having learned that he was wanted nationwide by Torontow, and that the order came directly from Owen, with Billy as a witness also being controlled, and even the military unable to intervene, was desperate. He ran to the Rose Club to seek help from Gilbert.
"How can I help you?"
Gilbert swirled his wine glass, his eyes dark as he stared at him. "The ones after you are the Torontow royalty. I'm not from Torontow; how can I help you?"
"If it weren't for you asking me to get rid of Edward and Landon, things wouldn't have escalated like this! Are you going to turn your back on me now?"
"Don't say you were helping me; you just wanted to make a name for yourself and earn credit with your superiors." Gilbert sneered indifferently.
Sebastian was furious, wanting to tear him apart!
But he hated that this was Gilbert's territory, and if he acted rashly, he might not even make it out the door.
"I knew it, I knew you would play tricks! If you can renege, do I have no way out?"
Sebastian gritted his teeth. "Let me tell you, I have a recording of our last conversation! What do you think your beloved Ms. Taylor would feel if she knew you wanted to assassinate Landon? It would be completely over between you two!"After saying that, he made a throat-slitting gesture.
Gilbert's pupils shook, and a sinister cold light flashed in his eyes!
