Chapter 402 A Private Chat
Eric had been standing outside the hospital waiting for Edward, smoking one cigarette after another.
Seeing Edward walk out the door, pale-faced, Eric dropped his cigarette butt and crushed it with his toe, calling his name with a worried look. "Edward!"
But Edward seemed disconnected from the world, walking past Eric in a daze and silently getting into the car.
Eric's worry deepened.
The luxury car headed towards Riverside Villa.
"That villa, Bart said it's officially sealed and up for auction, with many people bidding for it."
Eric lowered his voice to report the situation, "Bart has also sorted out everything in the villa. He packed some of your mother's photos and brought them back to Riverside Villa for you. He threw everything else into the trash and had it destroyed, leaving no trace. Edward? Edward? Are you listening to me?"
"Eric, I'm not going back to Riverside Villa. I want to see Grandpa. I miss him."
By the last word, Edward's voice was choked with sobs.
Eric looked at him in shock, his heart trembling!
At some point, Edward's eyes had turned red, tears streaming down his face, his broad shoulders trembling uncontrollably.
He was crying.
They had known each other for twenty years, and he hadn't shed a tear at Amanda's funeral, but for Evelyn, he was crying like a child.
Landon returned to Oasis Villa from Mugden.
Originally, he wanted to go to the hospital to be with Evelyn, but his emotions were very unstable, and he was afraid his negative feelings would be noticed by her.
So, he hid in his wine cellar, drinking bottle after bottle of wine.
"Mom." Landon gently swirled his wine glass, his reddened eyes full of sadness, "I'm sorry, I couldn't protect Evelyn and let her get bullied. Mom, tell me, how can I help Evelyn? How can I make her truly happy?"
At that moment, the door to the wine cellar slowly opened.
Landon squinted his slightly tipsy eyes and looked over, his heart suddenly tightening with a fierce throb.
Adrian leaned against the wall, arms crossed over his chest, smiling as he looked at him.
He looked so much like him.
Landon almost involuntarily called out the name buried deep in his heart for so long.
"Drinking alone is no fun. I'll join you, Landon?" Adrian's eyes were deep as he walked over and sat beside him.
Landon stared at him without blinking, his Adam's apple trembling.
"Drinking so much? It's bad for your liver." Adrian sighed, taking a wine glass and pouring himself a drink, "But I know you're in a bad mood, so drink up. I'll give you some liver-protecting medicine later, remember to take it on time. You're getting older, you need to take care of yourself. You're not even married yet, don't ruin your health."
"You talk too much." Landon curled his lips and downed his drink, "I won't get married, you don't need to worry about me."
"Not getting married? Why?" Adrian propped his hand under his chin, looking at him with a playful and gentle gaze, "You're the eldest son of the Taylor family, the future heir of KnightSpear Group. How can you not get married?"
"It's none of your business. And besides." Landon poured himself another drink, his voice hoarse, his eyes full of longing, "The future of KnightSpear Group belongs to Evelyn. She is the future heir."
Adrian looked surprised. "You're not going to be the CEO?"
"I never wanted to be the CEO. Everything I've done is to help Evelyn and to stand by Charlie for the last stretch."
"Impressive, Landon."
Adrian's high nose slowly moved close to Landon's handsome profile, his warm breath brushing against his clear contours, "So why won't you get married? Even if you like men, you can still get married. The laws in Mythorica allow same-sex marriage licenses."
Landon's breath caught, a tingling sensation like an electric shock spreading from his fingertips.
A few drops of red wine spilled from his glass, streaking across the wooden table like blood.
"I've already given myself to God, including my love. So I won't have a lover, and I won't get married."
"God is merciful. He will forgive you for your irrational actions for Evelyn, and he will forgive you for drinking to drown your sorrows." Adrian's eyes deepened, his well-defined hand gently brushing away a red stain from Landon's hand, "So if you want to love, God will forgive you, too. Or, have you not loved for so long that you don't know how to love someone anymore? I can teach you."
"I know how to love." Landon lowered his long lashes, his complex gaze lingering on Adrian's alluring, moist lips, "I've loved before, I know what it feels like to love someone. It's because I know that I never want to love again."
Adrian thought to himself, 'Loved before? Landon, who did you love? What kind of person could earn the admiration of a man like you?'
Suddenly, a strong desire to conquer, mixed with burning passion, filled Adrian's eyes.
Just as Landon was about to get up, Adrian suddenly leaned in and kissed his pale lips deeply. His heart trembled uncontrollably.
Evelyn's injuries from the car accident weren't severe; it was more of an emotional trauma.
For several days, Gilbert stayed by her side in the hospital, not leaving her for a moment.
In fact, she didn't need his care, but he insisted on staying, even if he couldn't do anything, just so Evelyn could see him from morning till night.
Charlie, along with Donna, Joyce, and Susan, returned from abroad. As soon as they got off the plane, he received a call.
"Uncle Charlie, it's me."
"Gilbert?" Charlie was quite surprised. "Why are you calling me?"
"Evelyn had a car accident a few days ago and is in the hospital. I'm with her now, helping her recover." Gilbert's tone was full of concern.
"What did you say? Evelyn had a car accident?" Charlie's blood pressure spiked, his vision darkened, and his heart pounded like a drum."Why didn't anyone tell me?"
"It was Evelyn's decision. She didn't want you to worry."
"How could she do that! Doesn't she care about me at all?"
Thinking of Evelyn lying alone in a hospital bed while he was completely unaware, Charlie felt both angry and anxious, his face turning red with rage, his heart aching!
"Uncle Charlie, please don't worry. Evelyn is fine now. She should be discharged tomorrow." Gilbert comforted him gently.
"Thank you for telling me this and for taking care of Evelyn. I'll treat you to a meal to thank you properly! Which hospital is Evelyn in? The Taylor family hospital? I'm going to see her right now!"
"Uncle Charlie, I'm waiting for you outside the airport. I'll take you there." Gilbert paused, lowering his voice, "By the way, I have something important to discuss with you privately."
