Chapter 244 Fight

"You look like you've put on some pounds," Edward said, staring at her like he was trying to solve a puzzle.

Noticing her once delicate face now had a bit more cheek to it, he couldn't help but crack a smile at the corners of his lips.

'Put on weight?' she thought.

"Are you mad? There's nothing wrong with gaining a bit of weight. You were way too skinny before. You should eat more," Edward said seriously, his handsome face making him look like a gentleman even when saying such things.

Evelyn's cheeks turned as red as two burning clouds, her beautiful eyes widened, and she slapped him!

Edward's cheek burned, and he quickly grabbed her right wrist, the slap mark on his face particularly noticeable, like a mark of shame. He asked, "Evelyn, is this how you treat someone who has helped you? I don't expect you to thank me, but do you have to hit me every time we meet?"

"Thank you for what? Controlling Dorothy and making her testify against Debra?" Evelyn's chest heaved, her beautiful eyes curved, even her mocking smile was stunningly beautiful. "Edward, do you have any shame? The one who should say 'thank you' is you, not me. You controlled Dorothy to set up Debra. Can you honestly say you didn't use me as a pawn? If I hadn't set the stage for you that day, could you have pulled it off?"

"Evelyn!" Edward was infuriated by her again, his chest tight with anger, his starry eyes reddened. "I just wanted to see you."

"But I don't want to see you at all!"

Evelyn's left hand was restrained by him, she couldn't break free. How could she, a mere mortal, not a match for this special forces soldier.

So she reached into her jacket pocket with her left hand, trying to grab her phone to call William.

But her little trick was immediately seen through by Edward, who swiftly grabbed her other hand with his left hand.

Seeing that she was completely restrained, Evelyn could only shout.

The usually calm and composed Edward was thrown into disarray by Evelyn's shout, a surge of restless anger rising in his heart, and he silenced her with a kiss!

His thin lips pressed against hers, swallowing all of Evelyn's cries.

Evelyn's pupils contracted sharply, her mind went blank.

Edward couldn't help himself, even though he knew it was wrong.

His gaze became more chaotic, his eyes red. Initially, he just wanted to stop her from making noise, but now, his kiss was fierce, as if he wanted to devour her whole.

Evelyn initially was determined to resist, but her body was controlled by him, her lips and tongue entangling with his and her breath taken by him. Slowly, she became powerless, her body gradually softening under him.

'So angry, so hateful!' A crystal-clear tear slipped from the corner of her eye as she thought, 'I was just a pitiful person who had once been infatuated with Edward for thirteen years, only to end up unloved. Why am I repeatedly humiliated in this way?'

A roar echoing through the corridor, William, with bloodshot eyes, rushed over, using all his strength to pull Edward off Evelyn, then delivered a heavy punch to his face!

But his punch was too slow for Edward!

Edward leaned back, dodging the punch with lightning speed.

"William!" Evelyn called out hoarsely to William, but he couldn't hear her at this moment!

"Edward, I'm going to kill you!"

Edward's eyes narrowed, and he frowned.

William was a Taekwondo expert, but even with all his strength, he was still too slow for Edward!

In a flash, Edward moved behind him, gripping William's shoulder tightly.

William immediately felt a bone-chilling numbness spread throughout his body, his body uncontrollably sinking.

Evelyn instantly recognized it as a close combat technique taught in military school, one that Ulysses also knew.

"Enough! Edward!" Evelyn held the still-numb William tightly. If she hadn't supported him, he might have knelt before Edward!

"Evelyn, I'm fine," William panted, trying to comfort her, but he couldn't muster any strength!

"You can't even stand, and you say you're fine?" Evelyn worried about William's safety, her eyes red with anger, glaring at Edward, who stood there calmly "In front of me, you dare to be so ruthless to my man? Edward, are you even human?"

Edward felt a stab in his heart, a sense of defeat, explaining, "He attacked me first, didn't you see? Besides, I didn't really hurt him. He'll be back to normal soon."

"Stop explaining. The more you explain, the more despicable and vile you seem!" The tears in Evelyn's eyes pierced Edward's heart. He watched as she raised her hand and wiped her lips with the back of her hand, as if to draw a clear line between them.

"Edward, just admit it. Do you regret the divorce?" she asked.

Edward's heart clenched, trembling.

Their eyes met, and her gaze was as sharp as a scalpel, cruelly dissecting him.

For a long moment, he didn't respond. Only his last bit of pride remained.

"If you keep quiet, I'll take it as a yes." Evelyn's voice trembled, but her smile was dazzling. "But let me tell you, even if you regret it, keep those dark thoughts to yourself. You having feelings for me is the greatest insult to my character."

Edward stumbled towards the underground parking lot.

He didn't even know how he got there, his head splitting with pain, his limbs stiff, as if he were a wounded man on the brink of death.

The moment he saw Bart, all his strength was drained.

"Edward!" Bart saw his terrible complexion and quickly rushed to support him, asking urgently, "Is your head acting up again? Get in the car, I'll get you some medicine!"

'A headache can be calmed with medicine. But what can cure a heartache?' Edward thought.

"Bart, I don't get it." Edward held his head in his hands, gasping for breath. "When I married her, I never cared about her, treated her so poorly, yet she stayed by my side. Why now that I'm good to her, is she so cruel to me?"

Bart was stunned, his brows furrowed, feeling deeply pained as he saw Edward tormented by such agony.

After a long sigh, he gently replied, "Edward, because the former Mrs. Wellington loved you very, very much."

'But now, she doesn't love you anymore,' Bart thought.

After Edward left, Evelyn helped the numb William back to the office.

She laid William's trembling body flat, his forehead covered in sweat, his lips tightly pressed, and began a preliminary examination of his limbs like a professional surgeon.

"Evelyn, I'm fine." Although William was paralyzed, he wasn't completely immobile. Seeing Evelyn so worried about him, his nose tingled and he said, "I'm sorry for causing you trouble."

"What are you saying? You were protecting me. But next time, don't be so impulsive." Evelyn bent down to seriously massage his leg muscles.

"I wasn't impulsive." William used all his strength to sit up from the couch, his gaze intense and stubborn. "Even if it happens a thousand times, I will always rush to protect you first."

"William, don't overestimate your abilities and expose yourself to dangers you can't handle. You're no match for Edward! Do you think he spent those four years in military school doing nothing?" Evelyn's eyes reddened with urgency as she said, "He was already lenient with you today. If you weren't my man, he might have dislocated your arm!"

"Let it be dislocated! So what if I die?" William gritted his teeth, shakily standing up, his tall figure engulfing Evelyn. "Even if I die, I won't let him bully you!"

"William." Evelyn stared at him in shock, her eyes meeting his tear-filled ones.

The next second, William's tears fell like rain.

Due to his nerve paralysis, he didn't even realize he was already crying.

"William, why are you crying again?" Evelyn asked, feeling a pang of sadness, raising her hand to wipe his tears.

Suddenly, William, mustering some unknown courage, wrapped his long arms around her waist, pulling her into his embrace.

His other hand pressed firmly on her back, as if he wanted to merge Evelyn into his chest.

Evelyn's beautiful eyes narrowed. She wasn't stupid; she could feel the complex emotions mixed in William's embrace.

"William, let go. We can talk this out." She pushed him lightly.

"Evelyn, I'm willing to accept any punishment for my actions." William's handsome face was covered in tears.

He knew he was being pitiful, begging Evelyn for a bit of comfort.

It was a bit shameless, but he felt so angry, so hurt, about to go mad!

However, Evelyn wasn't someone who could be easily swayed.

Her eyes darkened, and with two slender fingers filled with strength, she poked William's chest hard.

The not fully recovered William immediately lost his strength, falling back onto the couch.

"William, I know you mean no harm, and I won't punish you for this." Evelyn looked at him with a complex gaze, voicing coldly. "Starting tomorrow, take a week off. Go home and rest."

"Evelyn." William was full of shock, his heart aching.

"Recently, you've been too tense, your emotions fluctuating greatly. Take this week to relax and sort out your feelings. Think carefully about how you should continue working by my side." Evelyn said.
