Chapter 71 Her Lips, the Temptation
'Eric, are you out of your mind?' Evelyn screamed in her heart, forcing a fake laugh. "Eric, you've been quite the joker today."
"I'm not joking, Lily. I'm serious!" Eric, in a moment of excitement, reached out with his warm hand to grasp Evelyn's shoulder, but Evelyn deftly stepped back, evading him.
"Eric, I've already said everything I needed to say to you during the day. Do you really need me to say it in a particularly harsh and hurtful way for you to understand?" Evelyn interrogated.
"I know. You've rejected me." Eric gazed deeply at Evelyn, giving a bitter smile. "I know you're with Landon now, but I still want to tell you, as long as you turn back, I'll be behind you. I don't mind being your backup lover, even a clandestine one!"
Evelyn rolled her eyes in secret, 'What clandestine lover!'
But Eric's eyes were really beautiful, especially at this moment with a touch of sorrow. No wonder he had never failed in the field of love.
Unfortunately, Evelyn was completely immune.
In comparison, Evelyn was more enamored with Edward's beautiful eyes. His eyes were stunningly beautiful.
"By the way, Lily, who was the man who attacked Edward? Are you familiar with him?" Eric asked nervously.
"Lily!"
Just as Evelyn was unsure how to respond, Bart, dressed in hospital clothes, approached them.
"Why are you out of bed?" Evelyn hurried to support Bart. "Although your injuries are not serious, hitting your head when you fell still caused a slight concussion. You should rest more and not move around."
"Lily, did you save Edward?" Bart asked excitedly.
"I didn't do anything." Evelyn's voice was muffled, feeling guilty inside.
"I knew you still cared about Edward!" Bart replied.
"Bart, is Edward's treatment over?" Evelyn didn't want to hear this, so she changed the subject.
Bart nodded, pleading, "Lily, can't you just stay here? Just take a look at Edward before you go."
Evelyn took a deep breath and walked solemnly to meet Edward.
After all, the person who attacked Edward was Evelyn's own brother. Everything happened because of Evelyn. She couldn't just stand by.
In the hospital room, Edward leaned against the bed, looking out the window. Even with injuries on his face, his features were still handsome, his cold eyes and brows now carrying a hint of loneliness, adding a fragile touch of tenderness.
It was this face that Evelyn had loved for thirteen years.
Even now, Evelyn still couldn't help but feel a flutter in her heart, just not the same as before.
"Edward," she called out to him.
"I will get to the bottom of it. Before I get angry, you better disappear from my sight!" Edward's voice was cold, his expression even colder.
Evelyn had always been stubborn. The more she was told not to do something, the more she would do it.
Approaching the bed, Evelyn stared fearlessly at Edward's icy face. "Edward, I apologize for what happened tonight. If you're still angry, bring it on. If you want to hold someone accountable, come at me. After all, he only hurt you because of me, so I have a responsibility that I can't shirk. If you want to settle this privately, I'm willing to take full responsibility. If you want to go through the legal process, I don't think you want to see me in court, right? On one hand, you are a public figure, about to marry Ms. Adams. Getting entangled in a lawsuit with your ex-wife would likely attract a lot of speculation from the public, tarnishing your image. On the other hand, it wouldn't look good if it reached your grandfather, would it?"
Each sentence struck a chord with Edward's heart in just a few words!
Evelyn was completely on Ulysses' side, speaking for Ulysses, bearing all the blame for him. 'How could she protect him like that!' Edward couldn't help but think.
'Evelyn wants to protect even a murderer. What about me? What do I mean to you? A joke? Yes, a big joke, indeed.'
"Lily Brown, who is he to you. Why are you willing to die for him?" Edward's eyes reddened, his heart aching.
"That gun wasn't real, and I didn't die. I'm fine," Evelyn spoke softly.
"Does it make a difference? At the moment you took that bullet for him, there was no difference!" Edward tried to get up from the bed, but he was in too much pain all over, so he could only resentfully pound the bed. "We've been married for three years. You keep saying you love me, but look at what you've done. How is any of it related to love? Do you think I'm a fool?!"
Fueled by alcohol, Edward let out all his grievances.
He was a man of extreme self-discipline and endurance, having shed blood on the battlefield without a sound. But now, he couldn't hold back.
"So, you're not angry because someone hit you, or I almost died in front of you, but because you think I lied to you, and that's why you're angry?" Evelyn felt a deep sense of disappointment and overwhelming sadness.
Edward was taken aback, pressing lips together in silence.
"Edward, now that we've come to this point and we've separated, why bother about these things? It's meaningless."
Evelyn coldly wiped her red lips. "Your anger is just because something that was originally yours has now become someone else's. You hate that feeling of gaining and losing, hate the feeling of not being in control, that's all. Edward, for your own good, let's make time to discuss compensation."
"If you want to settle this privately, fine." Edward closed his eyes, then opened them again, his gaze fierce. "Tell me who that man is, tell me your relationship with him. I'll agree to settle this privately."
"No," Evelyn answered without hesitation.
"If you leave Landon and cut ties with Oasis Villa, I can also agree to settle this privately."
"Not possible!" Evelyn rejected quickly.
As Evelyn spoke, her cheeks flushed like poppies, beautiful yet heartless, but confusing to the mind.
Edward's eyes narrowed slightly, perhaps still not fully sober, at this moment Edward only saw Evelyn's lips. It was so beautiful, so alluring, so sexy.
Edward, born into a wealthy family, was confident and not easily swayed by love, able to resist all temptations.
"Well, since Edward clearly has no intention of talking to me, I'll have my secretary deal with you. I won't disturb your rest, I'll leave first." Evelyn decided to cut the conversation.
Suddenly, Evelyn's vision blurred, and Edward, with a burst of strength, grabbed Evelyn's slender arm and pulled her close.
Evelyn's soft body sank into Edward's solid chest. She felt ashamed as she sensed Edward's suddenly accelerated heartbeat and the rough, gravelly breaths!
"Edward! You..."
The next moment, before Evelyn could close her lips, Edward fiercely kissed her.
Evelyn stared with beautiful eyes as she struggled in Edward's embrace, but Edward firmly held the back of her head, deepening their kiss.
Their lips and tongues intertwined recklessly.
"Let go..."Evelyn was desperate, sweat beading on her forehead, her hand pounding Edward's broad shoulders, her words swallowed by Edward's kiss, turning into a seductive whimper.
Feeling the pain from Evelyn's struggles, Edward's eyes darkened, and with a fiercer demeanor, he continued to plunder and suck.
Evelyn's cheeks flushed, her entire body tingling, leaning against Edward's chest.
After three years of marriage, Edward had never taken the initiative to hold Evelyn's hand, let alone kiss her.
But now, Edward was kissing Evelyn as if he had gone mad!
'Damn it! His kissing skills is amazing! He must have kissed Nicole many times to have this level of skills!'
With these thoughts, anger surged in Evelyn, and she bit Edward's lip, her cheeks burning.
"Ouch!" Edward felt the pain and released Evelyn's lips.
"Jerk!"
Evelyn was extremely embarrassed, raising her hand to slap Edward hard!
Edward's handsome face bore an instant mark of her hand.
His eyes reddened with anger, but when he saw tears in Evelyn's eyes and the disheveled lipstick from their kiss, his heart raced, his gaze momentarily lost.
"Edward! What do you take me for? You trampled on my dignity when we got married, and now that we're divorced, you still want to bully me! When will you let me go?" Evelyn was furious, wiping away the tears and smudged lipstick from her lips with the back of her hand, her voice trembling. "If you want to satisfy your desires, go find a prostitute, or go find Nicole. Iit's up to you! But if you want to do as you please with me, to make me a plaything at your disposal, it's not happening! If there's a next time, I'll make sure your reputation is ruined!"
With that, Evelyn looked at Edward with hatred in her eyes one last time, turned around, and left in anger.
Edward was stung by Evelyn's gaze.
'What am I doing? I just kissed her? Gosh, Edward, you must be out of your mind!'
Just as Evelyn left, Eric arrived.
"Edward, did you and Lily just have a fight? I could hear you arguing even from outside." Eric noticed the redness on Edward's lips and exclaimed, "What happened to your mouth? Did you just... you're despicable! You're about to get married!"
