Chapter 338 Will Win Her Back
The crowd was shocked.
Edward was sharp and direct!
Although these business owners managed to maintain their composure, their eyes showed a hint of disdain when they looked at Bradley.
Indeed, if he was going to talk business, then talked business properly. But to suddenly extend an invitation and insist on bringing along your unfamiliar daughter, wasn't the motive obvious?
Bradley probably didn't expect Edward to be so straightforward and unrelenting.
Bradley, who usually wore a smile, found it hard to keep his smile from stiffening.
"You're right, I was being presumptuous. I should have properly invited you all. It's just that tonight, seeing Patrick after such a long time, I got a bit too excited, so..."
Edward retorted coldly, "If seeing my father makes you happy, then you should invite him. He is the chairman of the Wellington Group. You can talk to him directly; it's the same."
Edward gave him a cold glance before shifting his gaze away, his tone growing even colder. "I just wonder, does Mr. Taylor know that you, representing KnightSpear Group, are negotiating with the Wellington Group?"
Bradley was taken aback but quickly smiled, "Charlie entrusted the project to me, giving me full responsibility. Of course, I would prioritize collaborating with a powerful group. If he knew we could work with the Wellington Group, he would be very pleased and supportive."
Edward gave him a cold smile, his eyes sharp, "If Mr. Taylor knew you privately approached Evelyn's ex-husband to discuss cooperation, would he still be very pleased and supportive?"
The crowd was shocked.
Patrick's brows furrowed sharply, and he scolded in a low voice, "Edward, why bring this up here?"
Bradley's eyes widened suddenly, his mouth half-open, his mind unable to process!
Ex-husband?
Edward was Evelyn's ex-husband?
When did they get married, and when did they get divorced?
Edward continued, "Some things if not stated clearly, will inevitably cause unnecessary trouble."
Edward said coldly, "Besides Mr. Taylor and Evelyn, I won't discuss cooperation with anyone else from KnightSpear Group, nor will I meet any woman privately, even if it's your daughter. I don't want to upset Evelyn over unnecessary matters."
The crowd was astonished, how was this different from a public confession?
Patrick coughed lightly and gave his son a stern look, "Alright, Edward, there's no need to be so explicit about some things."
Bradley replied, "I truly didn't know there was such a relationship between you and Evelyn! I was being presumptuous."
Bradley laughed dryly, "I didn't expect that even after your divorce, you still protect Evelyn so much. You are indeed a man of deep feelings and loyalty!"
Edward's gaze softened with affection at the thought of Evelyn, "I love Evelyn. Even though we are divorced now, I will win her back in the future."
Bradley's face turned unpleasant.
The party continued, and Bradley went to the hallway to take a call from Lori.
"Dad, are you at the party?"
"I've been here for a while. Where are you? Why haven't you shown up yet?" Bradley, having been angered by Edward, spoke in a less than pleasant tone.
"For such an important occasion tonight, I have to dress up properly before going out," Lori replied.
Lori's tone suddenly became excited, "Dad, is Mr. Wellington there?"
"Yes."
Lori continued, "Did you talk to him about the new project? You must tell him that the plan was my idea."
Lori laughed arrogantly, "Mr. Wellington has seen many women; he won't be interested in them. Only someone like me, with a high education, broad knowledge, a combination of wisdom and beauty, and an outstanding family background, can catch his attention. Once he notices me, he will be attracted by my talent and eventually fall for me, moved by me."
Her excited, joyful tone made it seem like she had already captured Edward's heart and had one foot in the Wellington family!
"I advise you not to get too excited too soon." Bradley lowered his voice, his eyes dark.
She asked, "Dad, what do you mean by that?"
Bradley explained, "Edward, he's been divorced once."
"What? Divorced once? He was married? When did this happen?" Lori was extremely shocked.
Bradley said impatiently, "You're asking me? How would I know? But that's not important. What's important is, do you know who his ex-wife is?"
Lori naturally didn't know, as she had spent the year in Lisbon studying and researching, plus undergoing cosmetic surgery and recuperating, she hardly paid attention to domestic matters.
"It's your cousin, Evelyn!" Bradley spat out the name through gritted teeth.
There was sudden silence on the other end, with only the sound of breathing remaining.
After a moment, Lori burst into laughter, "Dad, you must be joking! How could Charlie quietly marry off his cherished Evelyn?"
Bradley added, "I don't know the specifics, but Mr. Wellington is now on his second marriage."
Lori said, "So what if it's his second marriage? The divorce wasn't Mr. Wellington's fault; it must have been Evelyn's incompetence."
Lori said disdainfully, "I actually think their divorce is a good thing. Evelyn has become an unwanted woman, and she definitely won't be able to stand in my way anymore. When I see her, I'll have even more material to mock her with."
Bradley shouted, "Just now, Edward openly admitted in front of everyone that he still has feelings for Evelyn, that he still loves her! His words clearly implied he wanted to remarry her! If you want to be with Mr. Wellington, it won't be that easy!"
Lori added, "Men are all about saving face. When you divorced my mom and kept two mistresses, didn't you still act like my mom was the love of your life in front of Charlie?"
"A man like Mr. Wellington, who is so high and mighty, naturally wants to maintain a good image in public. After all, divorce isn't a good thing." Lori was indifferent.
Bradley blew his beard and glared, "I've been so good to you. If you don't know how to repay me, fine, but don't make such sarcastic remarks. Do you believe I'll cut off your card?"
Lori comforted him, "Dad, I'm just joking with you. Even though you divorced my mom, my heart is still with you."
Lori laughed arrogantly and confidently, "Dad, don't you want me to repay you? Just watch, as long as I get a chance to interact with Mr. Wellington, it won't be long before I become his wife."
Meanwhile, the party moved to the next stage.
The much-anticipated segment was where Mugden's business leaders give speeches.
Originally, Patrick was scheduled to give a speech, but since Edward was there, he gave the opportunity to Edward. After all, he had just recovered from a serious injury and needed to make a public appearance to dispel some unfavorable rumors about the Wellington Group and himself.
Patrick said dissatisfiedly, "You showed up tonight without wearing a tailored suit, fine, but why didn't you even fix your hair?"
Patrick, sitting in the audience, looked at him with some disdain, "Which CEO do you see with a buzz cut? Do you still think you're in the military? You're not paying attention to your image at all. Also, you had surgery before, and there are still scars on your scalp. Why don't you wear a wig to cover it up?"
"Everyone in Mugden knows about my injury, there's no need to hide it. Besides, what's wrong with a buzz cut? Even if I shaved my head, it wouldn't affect my looks." Edward lowered his gaze, his tone cold and distant, yet confident.
Patrick pursed his lips.
"I'll find someone to make a realistic wig for you tomorrow and send it over." Patrick was still insistent.
It wasn't really about the wig; he just didn't like Edward defying him and always wanted to control him whenever he had the chance.
"I won't wear it even if you bring it. Evelyn said she likes my current hairstyle, and as long as she likes it, I won't change it." Edward's voice was so tender when he mentioned Evelyn that it could almost drip with sweetness.
Patrick was too angry to say more, "You!"
"Now, let's welcome the president of the Wellington Group, Mr. Wellington!"
Thunderous applause erupted from the audience.
Edward gracefully stood up, ignoring Patrick's dark expression, and walked elegantly to the stage.
Standing in front of the microphone, Edward was composed and handsome, exuding an extraordinary aura. There was no sign that his head had been operated on just a few days ago; he was full of energy.
As soon as he began to speak, his phone vibrated continuously in his hand.
In the past, he would have ignored it, but tonight Evelyn was missing, and he had kept his phone with him all night, afraid of missing any call or message from her.
So, when the phone vibrated, his heart also trembled.
Edward discreetly lowered his eyes and unlocked the screen.
Instantly, his pupils contracted sharply as he scanned the photos that had been sent, his heart pounding wildly, almost leaping out of his chest!
The next second, he turned and, ignoring the bewildered crowd, sprinted off the stage!
The crowd asked in surprise, "What's going on?"
Patrick was stunned, leaning forward abruptly, "What is Edward doing?"
Bart, standing by the back door, immediately chased after Edward in a panic!
Outside the banquet hall.
Edward's brows were deeply furrowed, his face pale, and his steps quickened.
At that moment, a woman with long hair walked towards him.
It was Bradley's daughter, Lori.
Seeing Edward walking straight towards her without looking sideways, Lori's face lit up with joy, her heart bursting with excitement!
She batted her eyelashes seductively and raised her hand to greet Edward, "Mr. Wellington."
"Move."
Edward, like a gust of wind, brushed past her shoulder, walking right by her, hitting her shoulder painfully and causing her to stagger!
