Chapter 381 Encounter at the Party
It was 7:00 PM sharp.
The venue for this cocktail party was once again chosen to be the Wellington family's hotel. After the business meeting concluded, Mugden's business moguls and industry elites headed here to continue the event.
Evelyn sped along in her black Bugatti, with Adrian in the passenger seat, clutching the door handle tightly, staring straight ahead, not daring to utter a single word.
He feared that if he said even one more word, his dinner from the night before would come up!
Finally, they arrived at the hotel. Evelyn executed a beautiful and swift drift, parking the car smoothly.
"Get out," Evelyn said as she unbuckled her seatbelt.
Adrian remained motionless, his face as pale as a sheet.
Evelyn blinked her pretty eyes and waved her hand in front of him, "What's wrong with you? Turned to stone?"
"I feel like throwing up," Adrian said, looking miserable.
Evelyn let out a shout and kicked him out of the car, "If you need to throw up, do it outside! Not in my car!"
As soon as the car door opened, Adrian threw up.
He was also a rich young master, and it was the first time he had ever vomited so ungracefully.
Fortunately, Landon wasn't around; otherwise, he would have wanted to die from embarrassment.
After emptying his stomach, Adrian weakly leaned against the car door, panting and glaring at Evelyn, "You, your whole family must be crazy! Driving like it's a plane?"
"You're a grown man, and you get car sick."
Evelyn crossed her arms and shook her head, "My driving skills are racecar level. If you can't handle it, that's your problem."
She handed him a bottle of water, showing some consideration.
Adrian rinsed his mouth and drank some water, taking a while to recover.
"Don't forget what you promised me."
"I remember." Evelyn looked at him, "Cure Edward, and I'll introduce you to White God. I keep my promises."
If Adrian knew that the beautiful woman in front of him, who had been playing him like a fiddle, was his idol White God, he would probably feel like he had been thoroughly duped.
At that moment, a black Bentley drove past them.
Evelyn saw the license plate and felt a twinge of familiarity.
The Bentley stopped not far away, and the driver got out to open the door.
Two people stepped out, and Evelyn knew them all too well. It was her second uncle Bradley and her scheming cousin Lori.
"Dad, how do I look tonight?" Lori asked Bradley expectantly.
Tonight, she wore an off-the-shoulder pink evening gown, holding a silver, diamond-studded clutch, with her long hair cascading down her shoulders.
But Evelyn could tell at a glance that Lori's dress was a high-quality knockoff.
Because that brand would never lend the original dress to someone like Lori, who had neither commercial value nor social status. That would be brand suicide.
"You look beautiful! You're more stunning than a flower! You'll definitely be the center of attention tonight!" Bradley praised Lori lavishly.
Lori hadn't even entered yet, but she was already beaming with excitement.
"Being the center of attention isn't important; what's important is that Mr. Wellington likes it."
Evelyn, not far away, heard Lori's words clearly and couldn't help but frown slightly.
Adrian, seeing Lori's pretentious demeanor, felt his nausea returning.
"Make sure to impress Mr. Wellington, and he'll gradually fall for you."
Bradley didn't miss the chance to belittle Evelyn, sneering, "My daughter, no matter what, is better than Evelyn."
"You need to have confidence; you're not inferior to Evelyn at all. You and Mr. Wellington just lack a bit of fate, but that's not important. Fate can be created."
"Evelyn and Mr. Wellington truly have no fate; otherwise, how could they have ended up divorced?"
Evelyn listened silently to their arrogant remarks, her cold and beautiful face showing no emotion.
Adrian stared in shock as Bradley and Lori left the parking lot.
"Edward is your ex-husband?"
"Yeah, I should have told you earlier. It's not really a secret." Evelyn replied indifferently.
"You're quite the model ex-wife."
Adrian couldn't help but tease her, "Most people want to strangle their ex after a divorce, but you're going out of your way to cure your ex-husband? Is it lingering feelings, or does he have something on you?"
"I just want to give myself closure. Let's go."
Evelyn, expressionless, started walking towards the hotel.
Adrian watched her back, strong and cold, like a sword cutting through a storm. She was just in her early twenties, yet she exuded an overwhelming aura.
He couldn't help but smirk, "Evelyn, you're becoming more and more interesting."
Bradley ran into some business acquaintances halfway and started chatting, while Lori headed to the entrance of the banquet hall.
She arrogantly took out her invitation and handed it to the staff at the door.
"Miss Taylor, please."
"Thank you."
Just as Lori was about to walk in, she heard the confident sound of high heels behind her.
She turned around in surprise, her eyes widening.
Evelyn and Adrian were walking towards the banquet hall side by side.
Lori gritted her teeth, her eyes turning cold.
Why was she here all of a sudden? There had been no prior indication!
Who was that tall, handsome man beside her? He looked like an international model! Was he her lover or her new boyfriend?
"Evelyn! I didn't expect to see you here!" Lori quickly put on a friendly face and greeted Evelyn.
Adrian scoffed. If he hadn't witnessed Bradley and Lori's arrogant conversation in the parking lot, he might have thought they had a good sisterly relationship.
This was why he didn't want to return to the country; the relationships in these wealthy families were too fake.
"What's the matter? You can come, but I can't?" Evelyn didn't even look at her, her red lips curving slightly, exuding dominance.
"It's just that you've always been so low-key. You never attend these public events."
"Oh? Then you better get used to it."
Evelyn narrowed her beautiful eyes, her gaze at Lori full of meaning, "From now on, I'll be appearing in public more often. I guess we'll be seeing a lot of each other."
Lori's face was plastered with an awkward smile, but inside, she was fuming.
