Chapter 552 Find Her

Edward stared at the unfamiliar number on the screen, momentarily stunned.

Not many people knew his private number, and he never answered calls from unknown numbers.

But this time, his heart was racing uncontrollably.

Edward pressed the answer button and brought the phone to his ear. "Who is this?"

On the other end, the sound of wind and rain was loud and chaotic.

"Who is this?" he repeated.

Normally, Edward would have hung up by now. But this time, he found himself waiting patiently for a response.

"Edward... It's me..."

Evelyn's weak, soft voice came through in broken fragments, carried away by the howling wind.

It was like a sharp blade piercing through Edward's chest.

"Evelyn?"

Edward's eyes sparkled with a mix of surprise and joy. He stood up abruptly, his breath trembling with excitement, hardly believing he was hearing her voice.

"Edward... I want to see you... I'm so tired." Evelyn's voice grew fainter, almost disappearing.

"Evelyn, where are you? I'll come find you right away!" Edward's eyes reddened, a deep pain surging in his heart.

"I... I don't know where I am."

On the other end, Evelyn couldn't hold back anymore and began to sob quietly. "I've walked so far, I can't move anymore. My head is spinning, I just want to sleep."

"Evelyn! Don't sleep... please, stay awake!"

Edward's heart clenched in fear, spasming uncontrollably. "Don't hang up, I'll locate you right now! I'm coming to find you!"

Byron, who was nearby, heard the conversation, and his expression tightened, his heart racing.

"Grandpa... I'm sorry, I..."

"Edward, you don't need to say anything."

Byron waved his hand understandingly. "Go! Nothing is more important right now than finding Evelyn!"

Edward gripped his phone tightly and ran out of the hospital room.

"You must find Evelyn! You must protect her!" Byron shouted tearfully at his retreating figure.

Edward's steps faltered slightly, and he nodded heavily.

Edward drove himself, taking Bart with him, speeding through the rain towards Hameen.

He quickly gathered his team, and a dozen black cars followed Edward's at 180 miles per hour, struggling to keep up.

To them, it seemed like Edward was flying rather than driving.

The rain made the roads slippery and visibility low. Edward's speed was insane!

Bart clung to the handle above the car door, his face pale as a sheet, feeling like his heart could jump out of his mouth.

"Mr. Wellington! Please calm down! Finding Mrs. Wellington is urgent, but you need to be safe too!"

"Evelyn's situation is dire; she could be in danger at any moment!"

Edward's eyes were bloodshot, the immense fear causing his shoulders to tremble uncontrollably under his suit. "Every second I delay, Evelyn is in more danger! How can I be calm?"

Bart fell silent, closing his eyes and muttering prayers.

"Can you still track Mrs. Wellington's location?" Edward's forehead was drenched in sweat, his voice hoarse as if burned.

"We can still track her! She's about 1.5 miles away!"

Suddenly, the location disappeared from the iPad screen, and Bart panicked. "Mr. Wellington! Mrs. Wellington's signal is gone!"

Edward's heart sank heavily.

He could only hope that Evelyn's phone had run out of battery and not that something terrible had happened.

"Evelyn... hold on, I'm coming for you!"

Soon, the car reached the last known location.

The team arrived shortly after, spreading out with flashlights to search.

Edward ran into the rain, his shoes and pants covered in mud, but he didn't care, his eyes filled with anxious worry.

"Mr. Wellington! Slow down! Be careful not to fall!" Bart struggled to follow, bewildered by the situation.

What had happened?

Why was Evelyn alone in such a desolate place?

Evelyn had dealt with four thugs, beating them until they begged for mercy.

But it had drained her last bit of strength, and she barely managed to stay upright.

She took one of their phones and continued walking through the rain.

Afraid they might come after her, she didn't dare stop, as she had no strength left to face any danger.

Eventually, Evelyn's mind went numb, her legs trembling mechanically, feeling like they weren't hers.

Finally, she collapsed in a dilapidated cabin at the foot of a hill, and only then did she dare contact Edward.

Everything she did was to ensure her man could find her.

Time ticked by.

Evelyn curled up, hugging her knees, and fell asleep with her face buried in her arms, still clutching the phone tightly.

In her daze, she dreamed of three years ago.

The car accident, the blood flowing, she grabbed the doctor's arm, crying and begging:

"Save him... save my child."

"Evelyn!"

In her haze, Evelyn heard Edward calling her, but she had no strength to respond.

The next moment, her cold, trembling body was enveloped in a fiery embrace, a tall, broad figure completely covering her.

"Edward... is that you?" Evelyn murmured, her eyes shimmering with a heartbreaking light.

Edward's arms tightened around her, pressing her into his chest filled with pain, his voice hoarse and broken. "It's me... Evelyn, I'm here."

Seeing her curled up pitifully, Edward's throat felt blocked, his heart aching as if it were about to burst, shattering into pieces.

Tears streamed down his face, soaking into Evelyn's shoulder.

If tears were blood, it would be a river by now.

Evelyn's mind was muddled. She mumbled, "Edward... our child... our child is gone! You have to save him!"

Edward felt his soul being pierced, her words cutting into his heart like knives.

His trembling hand touched Evelyn's forehead, the burning temperature terrifying him.

"Evelyn! You have a fever! I'm taking you to the hospital!" He wrapped her in his suit and lifted her.

Evelyn's cheeks were flushed with fever; she muttered incoherently, "Our child... our child."

"It's okay, Evelyn... even if we never have a child, it's okay."

Edward's long lashes were wet with tears. He kissed her burning forehead. "To me, you are my child. I will cherish you, love you, protect you... Having you is enough."

Edward carried Evelyn out of the storm, Bart's face lit up with joy, tears streaming down.

In the car, Edward discarded his soaked suit, wrapped Evelyn in a blanket from the hospital, and held her tightly, his eyes red with worry.

"Bart, drive, head to the hospital."

"Yes, Mr. Wellington!"

"No..."

Evelyn's eyes were half-closed, and she weakly grasped his sweaty hand. "If we go to the hospital... they'll find me quickly... they'll take me back. Edward... I don't want to go back... I want to be with you."

Edward's heart ached, choking on his words. "But you have a high fever; it could damage your body."

"It's okay, some medicine will do."

With that, Evelyn closed her eyes again, falling asleep.

In the early hours.

The villa was quiet and peaceful, and Molly slept soundly in bed.

In the next room, Eric had moved his work to the bedroom so he could be near Molly while working.

He had become a key figure in the Clark Group, handling numerous projects, transforming from a leisurely rich man to a busy executive.

He used to not understand Edward's exhaustion, thinking it was just a matter of moving fingers.

Now, Eric rubbed his aching temples and sighed.

At that moment, there was a knock on the door, and Ellen's voice came through.

"Mr. Clark, please come out."

Eric put down his files and opened the door.

Ellen looked at him anxiously. "Mr. Clark! Mr. Wellington is here!"

"Who? Edward? At this hour?" Eric was incredulous.

"Not just Mr. Wellington, Ms. Taylor is here too!"

Eric sensed something was wrong and rushed downstairs.

In the living room, Edward held the unconscious Evelyn on the sofa, his face pale, staring at her sleeping face.

"Edward! What's going on?"

Eric ran over, shocked to see Evelyn limp in Edward's arms, unconscious, his heart tightened.

"What's wrong with Evelyn?"

"Eric, I'm sorry for coming so late."

Edward's lips trembled as he spoke. "I didn't know where else to take her, where she wouldn't be found, so I came to you. I'm sorry."

"Don't say that! You're always welcome here, no matter what! I'm here to help you, no questions asked!"

Eric knew something serious had happened, though he didn't press for details.

"Evelyn has a high fever. Do you have any fever medicine?" Edward asked hoarsely.

"I'll get it right away!" Ellen hurried to prepare.

"I don't think medicine alone will help. Evelyn's condition looks serious!"

Eric instructed, "Ellen, contact my private doctor, have him come over now to check on Ms. Taylor!"

Ellen went to make the call.

"Cold... so cold..." Evelyn shivered, moaning in her feverish state.

Edward took deep breaths, trying to hold back his tears, wishing he could transfer all his warmth to her.

"Edward, I have to say, Evelyn hasn't had a single good day since she got involved with you."

Eric stood before them, shaking his head sadly. "The Taylor family must be searching for Evelyn everywhere. They'll turn Mugden upside down to find her. What will you do? You haven't resolved your previous issues, and now you've taken Evelyn away."

"Yes, my sins are unforgivable, what's one more?" Edward said bitterly.

Eric gritted his teeth. "Damn it, you might as well elope!"
