Chapter 487 If You Stay, I Will Never Leave

After a moment of silence, Edward slowly spoke, "Evelyn, don't get involved in Sebastian's matter. Eric and I can handle it."

"My injuries and Tiffany's situation have already exhausted you. Leave the rest to me."

"Edward, are you worried about me getting tired, or is it because the mastermind is Gilbert, and you're afraid I'll be conflicted because of our past, so you don't want me involved?"

Edward pressed his lips together, silently agreeing.

"You're overthinking it." Evelyn frowned, lightly poking his chest with her fingertip. "Let's not even talk about how Gilbert and I were just friends in the past, not what you think."

"Even if we were, his actions are unforgivable. I won't show mercy, nor will I back down."

"What if all the evidence shows that Sebastian's matter has nothing to do with Gilbert, and it's all my mistake?" Edward asked hoarsely, his throat dry.

"That still doesn't excuse him. After all, he did so many terrible things to Nancy and Wade on Aurora Isle, almost killing Wade. I can't turn a blind eye."

Evelyn clenched her fists, thinking of the hardships Nancy and Wade had endured over the years, filled with anger.

Gilbert had crossed her bottom line, which was her family and Edward."I've done many things to hurt you. Why do you forgive me?" Edward couldn't help but ask, his trembling heart tightening.

"Are you comparing yourself to Gilbert?" Evelyn raised an angry eyebrow.

"It's not a comparison, just guilt." Edward sighed, smiling bitterly.

"You're different from him." Evelyn wrapped her arm around his, resting her head on his broad shoulder. "I've known you and understood you for a long, long time. I know you even better than you think."

Just as Edward was about to ask more, her phone vibrated in her pocket.

The screen showed a call from Charlie.

"What's up, Dad?" Evelyn answered, her tone lazy and intimate.

Even though Charlie wasn't in front of him, Edward felt inexplicably nervous, his palms sweating.

"Evelyn, where are you?" Charlie's tone was somewhat stern.

"What's up?"

"Are you in Mugden?"

"Do you have something to say or not?"

"Are you with Edward?"

Charlie's tone grew colder. "Not only are you together, but he's also staying at your house in Mugden?"

Edward vaguely heard his name, his heart tightening.

Evelyn's beautiful eyes darkened instantly. "Dad, what do you mean? Are you having me followed?"

"I'm concerned about you, is that a problem?" Charlie didn't go along with her this time, directly retorting.

"I've been abroad alone for five or six years, and you never had anyone follow me. Why the sudden interest now?"

Evelyn's anger flared, hands on her hips. "Have you been deceived, or are you retiring and bored?"

Edward furrowed his brow silently.

Alone, abroad, for five or six years? Why?

How could the Taylor family, who doted on her, let her go? Five or six years ago, Evelyn was so young, wandering in a foreign country, how dangerous.

"Come home immediately!" Charlie was visibly angry. "You have a noble status, and you're sharing a room with your ex-husband! Aren't you ashamed? I'm ashamed for you!"

"You married four wives and weren't ashamed, why should I be?" Evelyn snorted, indifferent.

"You!" Charlie was about to explode!

As they went back and forth, Edward gradually understood that Charlie was angry because he found out about him and Evelyn being together.

His heart ached, thinking of the hardships he had endured, finally getting her siblings' approval, only to face opposition from the elders.

But even so, he had no resentment. After all, his past actions were inexcusable, and any difficulties or obstacles were his to bear.

"Anyway, come back immediately! The weekend is the horse race, crucial for KnightSpear Group's future strategic cooperation. Major conglomerates from Mugden will be there, you need to prepare and attend with me!"

Major conglomerates? Then the Wellington family and the Alexander family would surely be there, making it quite the event.

Evelyn's eyes darkened, and she replied softly, "Got it."

"And let me remind you again, don't get too close to Edward!"

Charlie's displeasure with Edward was evident, "You have a noble status; Edward is not worthy!"

"And don't forget how he treated you, abandoned you, humiliated you! You may have forgotten, but I'll never forgive him! Unless I'm dead! Goodbye!"Before Evelyn could respond, Charlie hung up.

Staring at the darkened screen, she sighed quietly, glancing at the stiff Edward beside her. "Did you hear all that?"

"Yes." Edward's handsome face was somber.

"Charlie is old, more stubborn than I, and you didn't make a good impression. It's reasonable he doesn't approve." Evelyn pouted.

"I understand."

"But it doesn't matter, we'll take it slow. We've come this far. I believe we can overcome any obstacle."

Suddenly, Evelyn blinked her bright eyes. "If Charlie never agrees to us being together, if the whole world doesn't agree, would you give up on me?"

Edward looked deeply at her, asking in return, "Would you give up on me?"

Evelyn tapped her chin with her fingertip, pretending to think seriously, then shook her head.

"No."

Edward's breath was heavy and deep, opening his arms to embrace her, his chin resting on her head, tears welling in his eyes, his heart filled with a strong sense of sorrow.

"If you don't give up on me, I won't abandon you."

"I will stay with you until the end."
