Chapter 560 Strong Alliance, the Alexander Family in Trouble (1)

Evelyn used to dream of hearing sweet nothings from Edward. Now, he wouldn't stop whispering them in her ear day and night, and she was starting to get a bit tired of it.

But every time he got close, touched her, kissed her... she couldn't help but feel her heart race, letting him have his way with her.

So, whether she loved him or not, you didn't need to hear her say it. Just look at her reactions—if she blushed, if her heart raced, if her body responded—that was all you needed to know.

Evelyn steadied her breath, which had been disrupted by his kisses, and playfully tugged on his tie. "Edward, you used to be so proper. Now you act like a... well, you know."

She realized the word she was about to use wasn't quite right and quickly bit her lip. Even if it was true, it wasn't nice to say it out loud. Better to give him some dignity.

Unexpectedly, Edward's breath grew heavy, his eyes filled with restrained desire as he caressed the back of her neck, his forehead resting against hers.

"Evelyn, I'm your dog."

Evelyn's heart pounded, her cheeks flushed a deep red. She poked his firm chest with her finger. "Stop saying that. Insulting yourself is like insulting me, too."

Edward's Adam's apple bobbed as he bit her rosy lips. "Today, we're in the nanny van. It's spacious, big enough for us to... have some fun."

"I'm here for revenge, not to fool around in the car with you!"

Evelyn's face turned beet red, and she quickly changed the subject. "By the way, why haven't I seen anyone from the Clark family today? Eric's practically the CEO now. How could he miss an event like this and let the Alexander family steal the spotlight?"

"The Clark family is still dealing with the mess Jessica left behind. They've been in the public eye too much lately. Showing up now would just stir up more controversy."

"Huh, at least they know their place."

Edward leaned in, his nose brushing against her cheek, sending a slight tickle through her. "Eric also said he hates these events. He'd rather stay home with his lovely wife. I completely agree."

"You've been holding me for days. Every morning I wake up feeling sticky and uncomfortable." Evelyn wriggled off his lap. "We're sleeping in separate beds tonight!"

Edward's arms felt empty, and hearing her say they would sleep apart made him look like he was about to cry. "Don't be so cruel, Evelyn."

Just then, there was a knock on the door. Evelyn rolled down the window to see Bart's face.

"Mr. Wellington, Mrs. Wellington, everything is set up inside the venue."

"Thanks, Bart." Evelyn smiled and nodded, then added seriously, "But be careful. Today's event is crucial, so security and patrols will be tight. If the Alexander family spots you, they'll know something's up, and our next move will be compromised."

"Don't worry, Evelyn." Edward wrapped his arm around her waist, his lips barely moving. "I've got people inside the venue too."

Evelyn's eyes sparkled with relief. She opened her laptop, her fingers flying across the keyboard, green code cascading down the black screen like raindrops.

Edward was used to Evelyn's extraordinary skills, but no matter how many times he saw it, he was always amazed, both admiring and feeling a bit inferior.

"Okay, everything's ready." Evelyn hit the enter key and stretched her fingers. "Now we just wait for the show to start."

Edward gently took her hand, massaging her fingertips. He would let Evelyn do whatever she wanted.

In the largest conference hall of the Central Club, the atmosphere was quite serious. The audience was filled with high-ranking officials and industry elites from Mugden and across the country.

Mario was giving a speech on stage. Important figures like senators and business representatives sat in the front, while people like Helen, who were just family members, had to sit in the back.

In the circle of wealthy wives, Helen, as the only daughter of the Alexander family, had a certain status. But in the political arena, which was still a man's world, she was just Zachary's wife, with no voice of her own.

Naturally, she was not happy about this. She had worked hard to get her husband to where he was today. Without the Alexander family's background, her father's support, and her careful grooming, Zachary wouldn't have risen so quickly!

The more Helen thought about it, the prouder she felt. The bad mood from being besieged by several mistresses vanished. One day, she would sit in the front row like Mrs. Mario!

Thinking this, Helen sat up straight, looking down her nose at everyone. People around her glanced over and whispered:

"Look at her, acting all high and mighty. You'd think her husband was running for president!"

"Yeah, the election hasn't even started, and she's already acting like her husband is a sure thing. So blindly confident!"

"Helen still thinks she's the Alexander family's princess. It's well known that she spent a fortune from the Alexander family to support Zachary's campaign. The Alexander family is fed up with her, but she doesn't see it!"

"I don't have high hopes for Zachary. He looks like he's going to be corrupt! If they get power, the people of Mugden will suffer!"

The harsh gossip pierced Helen's ears, but she didn't care. To her, these people were just sour grapes, jealous of her noble birth and her husband's success!

Mario finished his speech, and the room erupted in applause.

The host took the stage and announced, "Please welcome Senator Zachary to introduce Mugden's business plan for the next three years!"

Zachary walked up to the stage amid applause and attention. Helen almost stood up to clap, wanting everyone to know they were a couple.

Zachary stood at the microphone, beaming. "Now, let me introduce Mugden's upcoming..."

He turned to look at the big screen, and the next second, he froze! His smile vanished, replaced by a stormy expression, as if struck by lightning!

Instead of the prepared project presentation, a handwritten ledger appeared on the screen. It detailed the times, places, and amounts of bribes he had received over the years. From tens of thousands to millions of dollars, everything was clearly listed!

Zachary swayed, stunned. Helen's mind buzzed, her blood drained, and she felt dizzy with fear!

The audience erupted in murmurs.

"What is this? It doesn't look like the project presentation."

"Hey, it looks like a ledger! A bribery ledger!"

"It even has Zachary's name on it. Isn't this the dirty money he took?"

The next moment, the screen changed again, showing a series of secretly taken photos. There were pictures of Zachary entering private clubs, accepting expensive jewelry, and even walking into a club room with two scantily clad women.

The crowd was in an uproar! The media was shocked!

"Oh my God! Who did this? It's unbelievable!"

"Gathering so much evidence and releasing it at such an important event, they're out to destroy Zachary!"

"Could it be Mario? After all, they're rivals in this election!"

"Maybe, but Mario might not have the means. The mastermind behind this must be someone even more powerful!"

Flashes from cameras captured Zachary's stunned, trembling figure on stage. Some reporters, not content with just taking photos, rushed to the podium, aiming their microphones at him.

"Zachary! Are the things on the screen true?"

"Did you take bribes? Do you have secret dealings?"

Zachary's teeth chattered, his legs wobbled as he stepped back. "It's not me! Someone forged this! Someone's trying to frame me!"

"What about the ledger? How do you explain that?"

"It's fake! All fake! I never took that money! Never!"

Sweating profusely, Zachary shouted in panic, "Security! Get over here and maintain order!"

Seeing the chaos, with his son-in-law besieged by the media and one negative revelation after another exploding like landmines, Elbert's eyes turned red, and he struggled to breathe evenly. "Find out what's going on! This is a direct attack on Zachary, and indirectly on the Alexander family! Who has the guts to come after us!"

"Yes, Dad, I'll find out right away!" Calvin realized the situation was out of control and urgently said, "In the meantime, I'll arrange for you to leave. Zachary is your son-in-law, and if he goes down, it could affect you too!"

"No way!" Elbert refused firmly. "If we leave now, it would be like admitting the negative news is true. People would think the Alexander family can't handle trouble and would laugh at us!"

Just then, Calvin's phone buzzed. He answered with a stern face, and Helen's frantic voice came through, "Calvin! Come out, I'm waiting in the hallway!"

...

When Calvin arrived, he saw Helen pacing, her face pale with anxiety.

"Helen, what's going on?"

"Calvin! You have to save Zachary!" Helen cried, grabbing Calvin's arm, her eyes filled with panic. "If today's events get out... Zachary's career will be over!"

Calvin gritted his teeth in frustration. "With so many officials and media here, do you think we can keep it quiet? It's already all over the place!"

Helen staggered back, her heart nearly stopping!

"That ledger and those photos, are they real?" Calvin exhaled sharply, his voice harsh.

Helen closed her eyes in anger and nodded.

"Useless! You can't even control Zachary, and you call yourself the Alexander family's daughter? You kept giving him our family's money, and this is what you get? A greedy, ungrateful fool?" Calvin was furious, seeing Helen as a complete failure.

"What's the point of saying that now? You all benefited from Zachary before, didn't you? Supporting him wasn't just for me! His position as mayor would have helped the Alexander family, too!" Helen screamed, on the verge of a breakdown.

"Enough! Keep your voice down! Do you want everyone to hear?" Calvin glared at her, his presence intimidating.

Helen stopped crying, trembling as she asked, "Calvin... you have to save Zachary! For the Alexander family's reputation... You have to save him!"
