Chapter 370 First Encounter with Adrian
Evelyn felt incredulous after hearing it.
Not to mention that someone as gentle and refined as Gilbert could really do something so cruel. Even if he wanted to deal with Randy, with his status, he could easily have someone else handle it. Why would he need to do it himself?
So she steadied herself and said seriously, "Mr. Alexander, this is a serious matter. You need evidence. Besides, you should be talking to Uncle Elbert and the police about this, not me."
"Ms. Taylor, you saved me, you're my savior! I couldn't bear to watch you walk into danger!"
Randy's eyes were full of urgency and sincerity. "I know Gilbert is pursuing you, and you're getting close to him. I'm afraid you can't see his true nature and are being deceived by him!
"He's been a psychopath since he was a kid! His gentleness is just a facade; deep down, he's very bad! He's pursuing you just to use the Taylor family's background to make a comeback. He doesn't genuinely care about you!"
Gilbert might not be a good person, and Randy was no saint either. After all, the accident at the stables was his "masterpiece"!
He knew very well that Gilbert was avenging Evelyn and that he was so twisted that he had to do it himself to feel satisfied.
Now, in his current state, the marriage with Evelyn was definitely impossible.
Since he couldn't have her, he wouldn't let Gilbert have his way either. He wanted to tear apart his hypocritical facade!
Coming out of the hospital room, Evelyn looked thoughtful.
The Alexander family members were all at the door, stepping forward to ask her about the situation. She answered seriously, but her eyes were flickering, clearly distracted.
At that moment, Evelyn noticed Gilbert standing in the corner.
She pressed her lips together and walked straight towards him.
"Evelyn, you've had a hard time." Gilbert quickly straightened up from leaning against the wall and smiled at her.
"Gilbert, I want to talk to you alone." Evelyn's tone was natural, but her expression couldn't hide her seriousness.
"Okay."
Watching the two leave together, Elbert nodded in satisfaction. "Calvin, don't you think Gilbert and Evelyn make a good match?" Elbert asked in a low voice.
"Are you really going to give up on Randy?" Calvin asked quietly.
"Given the current situation, do you think it's still possible for Evelyn to marry Randy?" Elbert looked at Gilbert's back with a meaningful gaze. "Gilbert and Evelyn have a childhood bond, and they can develop feelings quickly.
If they can truly end up together, it wouldn't be a bad thing. Although I'm not satisfied with Gilbert, he is still my son."
Hearing this, Calvin, standing behind Elbert, had a dark expression.
In a private room at the café across from the hospital.
The two sat facing each other, and Gilbert thoughtfully ordered a strawberry-flavored dessert for Evelyn, worried she might be hungry after a busy morning.
"Eat, you always have a good appetite, and you really like strawberry flavor..."
"Gilbert, do you consider me a friend?" Evelyn suddenly interrupted him.
Gilbert's long eyelashes fluttered. "Of course, besides my mother, you are the person I cherish and care about the most."
"Then I want to hear the truth from you."
Evelyn took a deep breath. "Is Randy's accident related to you?"
"Did Randy tell you that?" Gilbert's hand paused as he held the coffee cup.
"I have my reasons for asking."
"If I say no, would you believe me?" Gilbert slowly lifted his eyes, a light red moistness appearing in them. "You're asking me this because you're doubting me, questioning my character. In your heart, am I less trustworthy than Randy?"
Evelyn looked at him in a daze.
At this moment, she thought of Edward.
He had also once asked her almost hysterically: "Why don't you give me a little trust?"
"Randy lost a leg; he wouldn't go to such lengths to frame you."
"Randy is just Calvin's pawn. He's done plenty of shady things and made many enemies in Mugden. There are plenty of people who would want to take him down."
Gilbert gritted his teeth. "Besides, he deserves what he got."
Then, he recounted everything that happened at the stables to Evelyn.
"If anyone is scheming, it's Randy!" Gilbert said.
Evelyn stared at him without a word.
"Evelyn, I've never cared about the Alexander family. If I wanted to deal with them, I wouldn't stoop to such crude methods. It's not my style." Gilbert straightened his body, took a sip of coffee, and his every move was arrogant and elegant.
Over the past fifteen years, he struggled to live on Aurora Isle with Angela, and in the process, he had long abandoned his conscience, developing a performative personality and becoming accustomed to speaking every lie as if it were the truth.
Even with Evelyn, whom he truly loved, he instinctively lied, again and again.
Lies can be good or bad.
To Evelyn, he believed his lies were well-intentioned, a reflection of his love in some way.
Evelyn stared at him intently, even making someone as ruthless as Gilbert feel a chill in his heart.
"Gilbert, I like people who are open-hearted, honest, and kind. It's not that I don't trust you; I just hope that no matter what happens in the future, you can always keep a pure and kind heart, just like when we were kids."
Gilbert's long fingers on the table curled slightly, and a wave of shameful pain spread through his entire body.
He weakly lifted the corners of his lips, picked up a small fork, dug into a piece of cake, and took a big bite, chewing forcefully.
'Evelyn, just like my overwhelming love for you, there's no turning back. Some things can never be the same as before,' he thought bitterly.
After parting with Gilbert, Evelyn felt a mix of emotions for some reason.
At that moment, Landon's call came in, and she snapped out of her thoughts and quickly answered.
"Landon."
"Evelyn, Ulysses got what you wanted," Landon said with a faint smile.
"What is it?" Evelyn looked puzzled.
"Adrian."
Evelyn smiled.
"Ulysses went to great lengths to bring him back to Mugden. When you see him tonight, you should thank him properly," Landon said.
"Is Ulysses coming back tonight too? That's great! I've missed him so much!" Evelyn rubbed her eyes, her voice a bit choked.
Landon, being very perceptive, noticed her emotional state and said apologetically, "It's my fault. Ulysses wanted me to keep his return a secret to surprise you. But I was so happy that I accidentally let it slip."
"Landon, I don't need surprises; I just want my family around me."
But she knew it was difficult.
"Evelyn, are you in Mugden? At the hospital where Randy is?"
"Yes."
"I'll come pick you up."
"No need, I can't go back just yet."
"It's not just my decision; it's also Dad's." Landon's tone grew more somber. "Dad said you've already done your best by helping Randy with his leg. There's no need to go above and beyond.
"And their family must be in chaos because of this. Even though our families are close, it's best to avoid suspicion at this time. So Dad wants me to bring you back."
Evelyn frowned.
Previously, because of Edward and Byron, and dealing with Tiffany and Debra, she had interacted with the Wellington family quite a bit, and Charlie hadn't been so cautious.
It seemed Charlie had a significant issue with the Alexander family.
"Got it. You don't need to pick me up; I'll drive back later."
At night, in Hameen
A black Maserati sped through the back gate of Oasis Villa and came to a stylish stop in the backyard.
Ulysses, whom they hadn't seen for half a year, got out of the car and quickly walked towards Landon, who was already waiting.
"Landon! I've missed you!"
"Me too." Landon gave him a high-five, then glanced at the dark car window. "Mr. Mays is in the car?"
"Yeah," Ulysses said with a cold smirk. "He's not very cooperative."
"Even the most uncooperative person would behave with you around."
A trace of worry flashed in Landon's gentle eyes. "But you didn't hurt him, did you?"
"In what way? Physically, no. Emotionally, maybe."
Landon fell silent.
Ulysses suddenly looked pained. "I need to go to the bathroom! Wait for me!"
Before he finished speaking, he had already run off.
Landon shook his head, half amused, half exasperated.
After a while, Landon noticed the car not far away shaking a few times and then going still.
Curious, he couldn't resist and took a few steps closer to the car.
As he approached, the person inside seemed to hear footsteps outside and started shaking more vigorously.
Landon squinted slightly and pulled open the car door.
The next second, he was shocked!
In the back seat lay a man about six feet tall, tied up tightly, with tape over his mouth, only able to make weak protesting sounds.
He looked both angry and pitiful.
Was this Adrian?
Landon was stunned and quickly bent down, supporting himself with his left arm on the seat and using his right hand to tear off the tape from Adrian's mouth.
Adrian gasped for air, his face covered in a thin layer of sweat, looking androgynously beautiful.
What attracted Landon the most were his long, delicate eyes, which held a clean and transparent soul that made Landon's spirit and body tremble, no matter how much time had passed.
Their eyes met, and time seemed to stand still.
"Why did you pull so hard? You hurt my face, you know!" Adrian glared at Landon, but his eyes seemed glued to Landon's handsome face, unable to look away.
"Sorry," Landon apologized sincerely.
"Aren't you going to untie me?" Adrian kicked his legs. "My blood circulation is cut off! I'm going to suffocate!"
"No."
"What?"
"Wait for Ulysses to come and untie you." Landon looked at him, a slight smile on his lips. "If you run, I'm afraid I won't be able to catch you."
