Chapter 200 There's a Traitor in the Hotel
Evelyn heard from Vincent that Ada had left the show early, so she dashed to the underground parking lot with William. Ada was already in the car, looking pale. Just as the car door was about to close, a pair of hands grabbed it and forced it open.
"Ms. Smith, I know you saw the trending news and are furious. I'm angry too because someone leaked those photos, and KS WORLD had no idea!"
Evelyn, panting and sweaty, finally caught up.
Ada looked at Evelyn, keeping her cool. "Ms. Taylor, we have a contract, so I know you might not have known about this. But I believe you're principled, or Mr. Garcia wouldn't have trusted you."
William's eyes lit up, thinking there was hope.
But Ada quickly dashed their hopes. "KS WORLD has serious confidentiality issues, and as the general manager, you can't dodge this. This time it was the wedding setup; next time, it could be client info. KS WORLD's management flaws led to this. Don't you agree, Ms. Taylor?"
William's face turned red, wanting to defend Evelyn.
'Insult me all you want, but I can't stand Evelyn being criticized,' he thought.
Evelyn raised her hand to stop William, took a deep breath, and admitted, "I'm very sorry, Ms. Smith. This was due to our poor management. As the hotel GM, I'm to blame."
"Evelyn," William's eyes reddened, clenching his fists.
"Ms. Taylor, admitting your mistake makes you better than many managers. But a breach is a breach. I have to follow the contract and terminate our cooperation with KS WORLD. Otherwise, the contract means nothing, right?"
Ada smiled slightly, signaling her manager to close the door.
"Ms. Smith, wait!"
Evelyn took a box from William and handed it to Ada, staying composed. "I understand your decision. Though we can't work together, our friendship remains. I made the dessert you requested and came to deliver it. Please accept it."
Ada glanced at the box but didn't take it. "I appreciate it. I'll accept it next time when we can work together."
Evelyn bit her lip, watching the car drive away.
"Ada refusing your gift is an insult! It's too much!" William fumed but felt helpless.
After all, they were at fault.
"I get her actions. It's not really an insult. The cooperation is canceled, so she has no reason to accept my gift. Plus, with her wedding coming up, this must be frustrating, especially finding another hotel."
Evelyn took a deep breath. "Even if Ada doesn't work with us, I can't let this go. We need to find out who set me up. And the traitor among us."
"Traitor?"
William was shocked. "You think it's internal? Not Debra causing trouble?"
"Even if Debra's behind this, she couldn't have done it without inside help. We need to catch the traitor first."
Evelyn's eyes darkened, and a smirk formed on her lips. "Interesting, targeting me now."
Even though the deal with Ada was off, Evelyn wasn't discouraged.
'The real issue isn't losing Ada as a client. It's finding the traitor in the hotel before things get worse,' Evelyn thought.
"Evelyn, what about this box of desserts?" William asked, feeling uneasy.
Evelyn's eyelashes fluttered as she decisively tossed the box into the trash and walked away without looking back.
"A gift accepted is a gift. A gift not accepted is trash. I never take back a gift I've given. Let's go," Evelyn said.
After they left, a tall figure emerged from the shadows.
Edward watched Evelyn walk away, his eyes filled with emotion.
"Edward, looks like Mrs. Wellington will be busy next. Catching a traitor is tough!" Bart sighed behind him.
Edward, silent, walked to the trash can and picked up the box Evelyn had thrown away, ignoring the dirt.
"Edward! Don't pick it up, it's too dirty!" Bart, usually adaptable, couldn't bear to watch.
'Edward, always proud and noble, has never stooped so low, even for something Evelyn discarded!'
"It's okay. I've done this kind of thing before," Edward said, recalling the day he saw Evelyn making desserts in the kitchen, and his heart warmed.
"Let's go," Edward said.
Evelyn returned to KS WORLD and called an emergency meeting with high-level executives and the wedding planning team.
Everyone was furious about Ada canceling the cooperation. Seeing their efforts go to waste, some even cried in frustration.
Seeing this, Evelyn felt a sharp pain in her heart.
She wasn't afraid of the canceled deal or her own suffering. What she feared most was disappointing her team.
"It's okay. This isn't a big deal, and we can solve it. Everyone, continue working as usual and don't worry about it."
Evelyn smiled brightly, "Don't worry about the work trip and vacation. Everything will proceed as planned. Don't cry over this. It's not worth it."
But everyone insisted on canceling their vacations to fully commit to work and make up for the loss.
After the meeting, everyone left.
William looked around outside, making sure no one was there, and then closed the meeting room door.
"Evelyn, why didn't you mention the traitor in the hotel during the meeting?" William asked, frowning in confusion. "If you put pressure on them, I could observe their micro-expressions and maybe identify the traitor!"
"You're thinking too simply."
Evelyn's arm rested on the armrest of the leather chair as she spun it around. "This incident has already spread. Do you think the traitor wouldn't be prepared? He must know I'd bring this up in the meeting. But I deliberately didn't mention it and acted indifferent, making him unable to guess my intentions, driving him crazy."
William couldn't help but laugh. 'Evelyn is indeed clever.'
"The incident has already happened, and the traitor has succeeded. Pressuring him now is meaningless."
Evelyn's eyes darkened. "What we need to do is make him lower his guard, think he's safe, and then throw out the bait, making him take the hook himself."
"Evelyn, I'll check the surveillance footage to see if there were any suspicious people near the wedding venue. I'll also investigate the account that exposed the photos to find out who leaked them!"
Evelyn's narrowed eyes revealed a hint of dangerous pressure. "Go ahead."
