Chapter 283 The Talkative Man
Edward and the gang followed Byron back to the villa in Half Moon Bay.
Byron held onto Edward's hand with his left and Evelyn's with his right, not letting go for a second.
The grip Byron maintained was as steadfast as his relentless stream of curses directed at Patrick and Tiffany. His invectives were varied and creative, never repeating himself. Evelyn worried he might wear himself out.
After his rant, Byron started feeling bad for Edward and sneakily placed Edward's and Evelyn's hands together.
Edward's heart skipped a beat, and he shot Evelyn a gentle smile through Byron.
Evelyn noticed his intense gaze, pursed her lips slightly, and chose to ignore it.
Seeing her cold shoulder, Edward got anxious and tightened his grip on her hand.
Suddenly, his palm felt empty as Evelyn pulled her hand away!
He looked up and met Evelyn's slightly angry eyes.
She glared at him with her bright eyes, her lips downturned, looking like she wanted to chew him out.
'Alright, I still can't hold her hand. But tonight, just having her here is enough for me; I won't push my luck,' Edward thought.
"Edward, you really need to thank Lily tonight. If she hadn't told me you were getting beat up, how could I have gotten here so fast?" Byron kept winking at Edward and said meaningfully, "It shows that Lily cares about you. You should thank her for saving you!"
"Evelyn, thank you." Edward's rare gentle gaze was deep and soft, his tone low and light.
Evelyn shivered slightly under his gaze and smirked, "Edward, don't thank me. You should thank Molly."
Byron and Edward were both stunned, "Molly?"
"Yeah. Molly called me and told me everything, and then I told Grandpa Byron." Evelyn's gaze turned cold again. "It was no big deal, so don't overthink it, Edward."
"The fact that you told Byron shows you care about me, even if just a little." Edward was shameless; she didn't want to admit it, but he would just keep pushing.
Evelyn sneered, "Think whatever you want."
"So that's how it is," Byron sighed. "Molly really has a kind heart. Even though she didn't grow up with me, at least she wasn't corrupted by Tiffany. But Debra, spoiled by Patrick, didn't learn anything good from Tiffany and almost ended up in jail. My hairs are all turning white from worrying about her!"
"Molly is a good kid. When I was at Riverside Villa, she was always the closest to me and treated me very well." Thinking of Molly reminded Evelyn of the three years she spent by Edward's side. She thought her heart wouldn't hurt anymore, but it ached slightly again. However, her expression remained calm. "I can say that without Molly's company, I wouldn't have lasted that long."
Hearing the underlying meaning in her words, Byron felt sorry for Evelyn and gave Edward a fierce glare.
Edward's beautiful, affectionate eyes dimmed instantly, filled with regret and pain.
"Grandpa Byron, there's something I want to talk to you about. I'm not sure if I should bring it up. If it's out of line, just pretend I didn't say anything," Evelyn hesitated.
"It's okay, nothing you say is out of line," Edward quickly jumped in.
Evelyn rolled her eyes internally, thinking, 'Did I ask you? So annoying!'
"Go ahead, Lily! I trust whatever you say is well thought out," Byron said kindly.
"Grandpa Byron, I hope you can bring Molly to live with you," Evelyn said, treating Byron like her own grandfather, so she didn't hold back.
Edward chimed in, "I agree."
Evelyn shot back coldly, "I didn't ask you!"
Edward's eyes narrowed slightly, and he smirked, "Doesn't matter; I support your idea whether you ask me or not."
Evelyn glared at Edward, biting her lip.
"Lily, is something wrong with Molly?" Byron asked, worried.
"Molly has autism. Patrick and Tiffany are busy with work, so they might not be able to take care of her properly. This isn't good for her condition. So, I hope Molly can come live with you. This way, you won't be too lonely, and Molly will have your company, which is beneficial for her condition. Having Molly with you will also give me peace of mind," Evelyn explained, not rushing to mention Debra bullying Molly but considering the situation from both sides.
The most important thing now was to get Molly away from Debra's clutches. Once that was resolved, other matters could wait.
Additionally, this was a family matter for the Wellington family, and it wasn't her place to interfere too much.
"Lily, you're so thoughtful! This is my fault too. As Molly's grandfather, I haven't cared for her enough; it's my mistake," Byron said, furrowing his thick brows and feeling very guilty. He gently patted Evelyn's hand. "I understand your concern. Tomorrow morning, I'll have Tyler go to Riverside Villa and bring Molly to live with me."
At Riverside Villa, the atmosphere was extremely tense.
The drama of punishing Edward not only failed to establish Patrick's authority but also resulted in him being reprimanded in front of the entire Wellington family.
Afterward, Patrick changed his clothes and went out to blow off some steam, indicating he wouldn't be back tonight.
Tiffany sat alone in the room, looking like an abandoned woman, her face full of venomous resentment.
Her eyes were bloodshot with hatred, and she cursed Byron and Evelyn even more!
"Byron, you deserve to die! Evelyn, you won't have a good end!" Tiffany muttered to herself, growing angrier and trembling all over, looking like a mental patient who hadn't taken her medication!
At that moment, there was a knock on the door.
"Who is it? Didn't I say I didn't want to be disturbed?" Tiffany snapped.
"Mrs. Wellington, maybe you should come downstairs." the maid asked timidly from outside.
"What's going on now?" Tiffany asked impatiently.
"Miss Debra Wellington has beaten Miss Molly Wellington. None of us dare to intervene. Do you want to come down and take a look?" the maid said humbly.
