Chapter 211 Rescuing Molly
Eric's eyes widened as he looked at them.
At first glance, the sentence seemed harmless, but with Edward's teasing gaze and husky voice, it screamed romance to Eric.
'No, mutual love has a sweet smell, but unrequited love just stinks!'
Eric regretted not having his phone to snap a pic of Edward's expression for later mockery.
"Besides, you really have no memory," Edward said, his brows furrowed and eyes angry. "I told you not to mess with Molly, but you didn't listen to us and bullied her. Think three slaps were too much? I think it was too few. I'd slap you every time I see you."
'Us?' Evelyn felt weird, uncomfortable with Edward trying to get close. He used to be so distant.
"Edward, watch your words. There is no 'us'. Don't lump you and me together," Evelyn said coldly, heading to the bedroom. "Otherwise, I'll feel insulted."
Edward pursed his lips, embarrassed.
"Failed to get close, huh?" Eric grinned, satisfied seeing Edward's awkwardness, feeling better from Evelyn's slaps.
But then Edward punched Eric in the abs, causing him pain.
Evelyn hurried to the bedroom, her mind racing with horror stories. She feared what she might see when she opened the door.
'If it's as I imagine, Eric must die tonight! Not even Edward could protect him!' she thought.
"Molly!" Evelyn rushed in, stunned.
The room was peaceful, not chaotic as she imagined. A warm, sweet scent filled the air. Soft light from the bedside lamp illuminated Molly's peaceful face.
Evelyn quietly knelt by the bed, gently caressing Molly's cheek. Seeing the teddy bear in Molly's arms, she felt a weight on her chest, making it hard to breathe and her eyes sting. Tears filled her eyes.
Evelyn, who feared nothing, couldn't bear this sight.
Edward walked in, his shoulders trembling, throat tight.
Evelyn heard footsteps and panicked, quickly rubbing her eyes. The room fell silent.
Edward's Adam's apple bobbed as he touched her damp hair. "Dry it off. It's cold outside, and you'll catch a cold."
"None of your business," Evelyn said, standing up to avoid contact.
Edward felt melancholy, clenching his fingers in embarrassment.
'I don't understand my actions anymore, losing sight of myself,' he thought.
"Eric didn't do anything to Molly, so you can relax. He likes to mess around, but Molly is my sister, and he knows his limits," he added.
"He might know now, but who knows about the future? A man's words and actions are not to be trusted," Evelyn said coldly.
Edward knew she was angry, turning and walking to the bathroom without a word. A few seconds later, he returned and placed a towel on her head. "Dry it off before you go."
"I said, no need," Evelyn said.
Before she could finish, Edward's large hands pressed the towel, drying her hair.
Evelyn was stunned, her heart in turmoil.
'Is this still Edward? The same Edward who never even poured me a glass of water? How could he do this for me now? In the middle of the night, it's terrifying!'
"Take your hands off!" she whispered through gritted teeth, startling Molly.
Molly curled up under the blanket but didn't wake up.
"If you want to wake Molly, go ahead and speak louder," Edward smirked, still drying her hair, hitting her weak spot.
"Be gentle! I've been losing hair lately, and you're going to make me bald!" Evelyn frowned, cheeks flushing with anger.
"Sorry, it's my first time doing this. No experience," Edward said, feeling warmth in his chest. He relaxed his fingers, gently massaging her hair through the towel. "Next time, I'll be better."
Evelyn got goosebumps and coldly retorted, "Edward, I'm giving you some face for Molly's sake. Next time, be prepared to lose a limb!"
Edward chuckled, his fingers gently massaging her scalp.
Evelyn's tense nerves relaxed, her eyes half-closed.
'Damn, how is Edward so good at this? It feels too good.'
They walked out of the room together, Evelyn's eyes slightly red as if she had been crying.
Edward tilted his head slightly, his gaze never leaving her.
Eric blinked at them, feeling a bit dazed, as if they were still a couple.
'Edward is stunningly handsome, and besides Evelyn, I can't think of any other woman who could match him.'
"Eric, go home. Molly will sleep here tonight," Edward's expression was calm. "Taking her back would be troublesome. I'll take her home tomorrow morning when she wakes up."
"Then I won't go home either. I'll stay here with Molly!" Eric remembered kissing Molly while drunk tonight. Although kissing couldn't get her pregnant, he felt guilty and wanted to stay to take care of her.
"No way!" Edward and Evelyn said in unison.
"Evelyn!" William walked into the room, phone in hand. "The security manager just reported that a helicopter landed on our hotel rooftop. We don't know whose it is."
"A helicopter?" Evelyn asked.
"Mine," Edward admitted openly.
Evelyn and William were puzzled.
"Edward went on a business trip to Houston yesterday. Ms. Taylor, with just one word from you, he flew the helicopter back himself!" Bart quickly explained to Evelyn. "Ms. Taylor, Edward has never been so attentive to any other woman!"
Bart thought Edward's difficulty in winning back Evelyn was because he was too reserved, not knowing how to express himself.
Edward's heart tightened, feeling embarrassed, and he sternly stopped Bart. "Bart, stop talking."
"So do you want me to praise Edward?" Evelyn's lips curled coldly. "A good person doing one bad thing is showing their true colors. So a bad person doing one good thing is a reformed rake?"
Eric covered his mouth, laughing.
Edward remained silent.
"Molly is his sister. It's only natural for him to come back. Is that even worth mentioning?" Evelyn couldn't be bothered with them, walking straight out the door.
William gave Edward a cold, mocking glance and followed Evelyn out.
Bart cursed under his breath. "William is just a sycophant."
"But at least he knows what to say and what not to say," Edward sighed, shaking his head in disappointment. "Bart, you're good at everything except you talk too much."
"But I just wanted Mrs. Wellington to know how hard you've worked," Bart mumbled, feeling wronged.
"She always knew how hard I worked."
As soon as he said it, Edward felt a deep pain in his chest, memories of Evelyn's kindness flooding back.
'Just as I said, she always knew how hard I worked. But why, when she loved me so deeply, was I so foolish and unaware?' Edward thought.
