Chapter 260 Asking Landon for Help

In the middle of the freezing coldness, Evelyn felt her hands start to warm up.

Edward grabbed her numb little finger, wrapping it up with a warmth she'd never felt before.

It was like her dead nerves were waking up.

Evelyn shut her eyes, leaning against his broad back, her cold little hand getting cozy in his palm, shrinking comfortably.

Edward's heart skipped a beat, scared she might pull away, so he held on tighter.

"Stay still, don't move," Edward said, trying to sound tough, even though his injured back was killing him.

But he hid it well, not wanting her to worry, even just this once.

He wanted to earn Evelyn's trust and be her rock.

"So cold, hurry up," Evelyn mumbled, half-asleep.

"Hang in there. We'll find shelter soon," Edward said, his breath heavy, eyes foggy, each step a struggle.

"What if we never find it?" Evelyn whispered, totally drained.

"Then, hide in my arms," Edward blurted out.

"No way!" Evelyn's heart skipped a beat, her long lashes fluttering in panic.

Edward smiled lightly, carrying the restless Evelyn, feeling a surge of strength and warmth.

He decided not to push her buttons anymore and focused on the journey, knowing she couldn't run away.

They clung to each other, their breaths mixing, their heartbeats syncing.

It felt like they were back to that wild moment thirteen years ago.

But the girl on his back had grown up, even married him and been his wife for three whole years.

Meanwhile, William couldn't stop worrying about Evelyn, so he braved the heavy rain with an umbrella to the camp.

By the time he got there, his black umbrella was trashed by the storm, his suit soaked through, and his shoes and pant legs covered in mud.

"Evelyn!" William shouted, about to push the door open when he bumped into Joseph and Bart, who were wearing raincoats.

"Why are you here? Did Edward come? Where's Evelyn?" Maybe it was his long-time connection with Evelyn, William sensed something was off, his heart tightening.

"William, chill out!" Bart was also anxious, but he believed Evelyn would make it and that Edward would find and protect her. "Mr. Wellington and all the rangers have gone up the mountain to find Ms. Taylor! I've also got three helicopters searching as per Mr. Wellington's orders! Mr. Wellington swore he won't come back without finding Ms. Taylor!"

William was deeply shaken by these words!

'He won't come back without finding Evelyn.' William thought, not believing that the cold and heartless Edward would say such a thing for Evelyn.

"It's all my fault. I never should've let Lily go up the mountain!" Joseph pounded his chest in regret.

"Don't say that. You gotta trust Mr. Wellington!" Bart said.

"No way, I don't trust Edward! I gotta call Mr. Taylor right now!" William's hand shook as he dialed Landon's number.

The call was picked up fast, and before he could say anything, Landon's urgent voice came through, "William, did something happen to Evelyn?"

Maybe it was a sibling thing, Landon had been feeling uneasy all night.

William's call confirmed his worst fears—something had happened to Evelyn!

"Mr. Taylor!" William's eyes were red and swollen, "Evelyn's in trouble! Please send help to Thunder Peak National Forest Park ASAP!"

When William's distress call came, Landon was at the military headquarters in Dubline, 200 miles from Mugden.

Since he was in Dubline, he couldn't miss the chance to see Aaron.

Victoria had given birth to quadruplets, and the four brothers, along with Evelyn, were super close, all equally cherished by her.

But Aaron had left home early, becoming a colonel at twenty-eight with a stellar career, now holding a high position and leading the military in Dubline, rarely seeing his family.

So whenever possible, Landon would visit Aaron.

"Aaron, something happened to Evelyn, I gotta get back to Mugden right now!" Landon said, his brows furrowing with worry.

"What? Something happened to Evelyn?" Aaron, dressed in his uniform, sprang up from the sofa, his nerves on edge!

Usually cold and composed, Aaron lost his cool at the news of Evelyn being in trouble!

Landon's heart tightened, his voice hoarse with urgency, "Evelyn went to Thunder Peak National Forest Park as a volunteer rescuer again."

Aaron clenched his fists, pacing in frustration.

"I've told her a million times. Just donate money, she's not a pro rescuer. She could get herself in danger. But she's stubborn and won't listen!" Landon was equally worried.

"Why does Evelyn keep going to that place?" Aaron dropped his usual stern facade in front of Landon, showing a hint of Charlie's humor.

Landon gave him a meaningful look and said, "Don't you remember what happened when Evelyn was eleven?"

"Of course, I remember!" Aaron's eyes darkened, sighing.

"So I've come to realize something. Victoria had us four to protect Evelyn, to be her strong support." Landon sighed deeply, turning to leave, "It's urgent, Aaron. I gotta go!"

"Landon, wait!" Aaron called out, grabbing his military cap from the sofa armrest and putting it on swiftly, "I'm coming with you!"
