The couple froze in shock, saying in unison, "Jennifer, what did you say?"
Jennifer's expression showed calm determination after making an irreversible decision. "Whether it's going to the police station to give a statement, or later when Randy stands trial and I'm called to testify in court, I'm willing."
"As long as it means Randy faces legal consequences and helps those girls, no matter how much pressure there is, I can handle it."
The air seemed to freeze solid in that moment.
Jennifer had thought her idea would receive their strong support.

"Even though Randy didn't succeed with me, it still counts as attempted rape. Thinking of her mother and William, Jennifer's heart clenched painfully.
But what hurt her even more were those girls victimized by Randy.
As Charlie's daughter, with powerful and excellent relatives like Evelyn and Edward backing her up, she had barely managed to vent some of her anger. Those girls were truly living in hell on earth every day.
Evelyn took a deep breath, her calm and rational words carrying a frightening chill. "One more thing - even if you testify, bringing down Randy won't be easy. Your approach might work on people who care about reputation and face, like hypocrites like Calvin."
"But Randy has already crossed all lines and boundaries. Do you think you'll cause him any real harm? As long as the Alexander family doesn't fall, he can still comfortably be their parasite. And the storm you're talking about will gradually fade from people's memories over time."
"As for those girls, your bravery and sacrifice may not change their minds. They might choose silence from beginning to end."
"But that's understandable; your safety net is us, but if they speak up, they'll have nowhere to retreat."
Evelyn's brutally sharp words were so coldly incisive that even Edward couldn't help but gasp.
He thought inappropriately of earlier times when he'd crossed swords with Evelyn in business, losing every single time.
He hadn't gone easy on her - Evelyn was truly exceptionally capable, with meticulous logic, careful attention to detail, and decisive judgment. Several men combined couldn't match her. He'd lost fair and square.
Everything she'd just said to Jennifer from the heart hit every painful point.
Edward had considered some of it, but definitely not as comprehensively as Evelyn.
"Evelyn... I understand what you're saying. But if we don't take this chance, how will things ever change?" Jennifer asked anxiously.
"I can't let you be a gambler betting everything on one throw!"
Evelyn stood up abruptly, her tone seriously brooking no argument. "Not just me, Edward, Joyce, and your William would never let you do this either."
"Especially William, no man wants the woman he loves dragged into a mess like this. He just got attacked by the Alexander family, and it's only been a few days. Do you two not want to live in peace anymore?"
"This matter is not up for discussion. If you drop this, I'll have you stay, and we'll have a nice family dinner. Otherwise, I'll have Bart take you home right now."
"Evelyn!"
"Jennifer, your idea is really too risky. Evelyn is afraid you'll get hurt."
Edward quickly stepped in to ease the tension, worried they'd have a falling out. "Her tone is a bit harsh, but you know in your heart how much she cares about you."
Jennifer looked at Evelyn's back through tears. Though she had the graceful figure of a willow, she seemed like a towering, insurmountable mountain standing before her.
On any other day, she would have meekly agreed.
But this time, courage surged up from somewhere inside her, making her speak uncontrollably:
"Evelyn, if... If I weren't your sister, would you still stop me like this?"
