Chapter 426 Discovering the Transfer
Edward didn't delve into Evelyn's words; at that moment, his mind was filled with thoughts of her allergy to cooking oil, feeling both guilty and sad."Let's not do it. I'll call Bart and have him deliver it, or maybe he can come over and cook for us. His culinary skills might not match William's, but they're good enough."
Edward noticed that Evelyn was barefoot and hadn't put on any shoes, and he couldn't help but frown. He grabbed her slender waist and effortlessly lifted her.
"What are you doing?" Evelyn hurriedly clung to Edward's broad shoulders.
"How can you not take care of yourself? The floor is so cold, how can you walk barefoot?"
Edward gently placed Evelyn on the table, knelt in front of her, and held her feet in his hands to warm them.
So warm, all the familiar warmth she knew.
Evelyn squinted slightly in comfort but didn't dare show it too obviously.
"May told me that a girl's feet are very important and mustn't get cold, or they'll suffer from illnesses in old age."
Edward looked up at her, his eyes filled with concern and reproach. "Don't do this again."
"I was just in a hurry!" Evelyn felt like she was being lectured and pouted.
Edward was slightly taken aback, then smirked playfully. "In a hurry? For what? Afraid I'd run away?"
Evelyn blushed at his words, her toes curling in his palm.
"How could I leave you and go when you're not awake? I won't leave."
How could he bear to leave?
He wished he could move in entirely, sleep beside her every night, and live in her heart.
Edward's hands slid up her slender legs as he slowly stood up, holding her waist and leaning in to kiss her forehead.
But he was never satisfied with just that; he could never get enough of her.
Evelyn's skin temperature rose, a shy blush spreading.
Even though they had done everything together, she still felt shy when he got close.
Just as Edward's lips were about to touch hers, the doorbell rang.
He didn't want to pay attention to it, but it kept ringing!
Evelyn coughed lightly in embarrassment and pushed him away in a panic. "What's going on? Who's ringing the doorbell? Only my brothers know the code."
"It's Bart."
Edward felt a bit annoyed at the thought of Bart. "I told him to come here when he had news."
"What news?"
"News about Tiffany and that killer."
Evelyn's eyes lit up instantly, eager to jump off the table.
The next second, she was lifted into the air by Edward's single arm!
"You're not wearing shoes; it's better not to let your feet touch the ground."
Evelyn's eyes widened in surprise at his strength. She remembered only that Charlie used to hold her like this when she was little, but she was much smaller and lighter then.
Hormones surged through her again.
Edward walked to the entrance with Evelyn protesting, and opened the door.
"Mr. Wellington?"
Bart saw Edward holding Evelyn like a daughter, both of them looking disheveled as if they had just woken up.
Bart's mind wandered, his face turning red, and his jaw almost dropped!
Could they have finally reconciled?
"Edward, put me down!" Evelyn was so embarrassed, gasping and shouting in his ear.
"Ms. Taylor, may I let him in?" Edward looked at her, asking gently.
Evelyn, completely under his control in front of Bart, glared at him angrily but could only nod.
"Can I come in too?"
Another familiar lazy voice sounded.
Edward and Evelyn's eyes widened as they saw Eric appear behind Bart!
He was squinting, smiling mischievously, looking at them with a particularly annoying grin.
"Congratulations."
"Congratulations for what?" Edward glared at him.
"Congratulations on finally not having to stand outside in the rain," Eric said, looking meaningfully at Evelyn.
Evelyn remained silent.
Edward's face fell. "If you have something to say, say it. Otherwise, get out."
"I do! I wouldn't have come otherwise. Can you let me in?" Eric asked cheekily.
Edward said, "Come in."
Eric shamelessly slipped inside.
Edward put Evelyn down and knelt to help her put on her shoes.
Evelyn quickly distanced herself from him after putting on her slippers, but this only made her look guilty.
They went to the living room, where Edward sat next to Evelyn, so close that he couldn't be any closer. He reached out to wrap his arm around her waist, but she leaned away, avoiding him without mercy.
Edward frowned and smiled bitterly, then took advantage of her inattention to play with her hair draped over her back.
'So petty, Evelyn.'
'Weren't you the one who was so passionate last night?'
Evelyn then realized that Edward had sent Bart to follow and investigate Tiffany over the past few days.
Eric had followed because he had important clues and was eager to report to Edward.
"Tiffany met with Lloyd?" Edward asked with a grim expression.
"No, with the current situation, Tiffany wouldn't dare meet Lloyd. That would be like walking into a trap and telling the world they're in cahoots."
Bart, parched, took a big gulp of water and continued, "I found out she went to Mugden's bank to meet the manager."
"Is she transferring a large amount of money?" Evelyn quickly asked, her mind sharp.
Bart gave her a thumbs-up. "Mrs. Wellington, you're so smart!"
Edward smiled, very pleased with the title.
Evelyn was both embarrassed and annoyed, but she wanted to know more. "Keep talking!"
"Then, through technical means, I found out she has a secret account at a bank in Routiland. I don't know how much is in the account, but I did find out how much she transferred to Mugden's bank this time. A whopping four million dollars!"
