Chapter 30 Evelyn is Lily?!
Finally, Patrick swore in front of Byron that he would no longer meddle in the affairs of the Adams Group, and the storm finally passed.
After Patrick and Tiffany left with worried faces, Byron looked at the mess and felt furious.
"Such unfortunate times for our family! The men of the Wellington family are all falling into the hands of these cunning women from the Adams family!"
Edward bent down to pick up the things on the floor, his mind racing.
Could someone have been impersonating Landon at the meeting in Yatuok?
But Patrick couldn't have mistaken someone else for him. They had faced off in the business arena multiple times, so Patrick couldn't have mistaken someone else unless he had developed dementia.
At that moment, Edward picked up a painting.
"Grandpa, is this yours?"
"Ah! Look at me... I'm so angry. Bring it to me quickly."
Byron's gaze softened. "This painting was personally painted by Lily for me. The scenery is all from Lily's hand."
She can also paint.
Edward suddenly froze as if his soul had left his body, losing his reaction for a while.
When that woman was by his side, she was obedient and dull.
Compared to Nicole, who could play the piano, dance, and sing, Lily truly had no shining qualities. Besides being obedient and gentle and having a pretty face, she had no special talents and was no different from the household servants.
But after Lily left him, she suddenly emerged like a hidden gem buried in the dust, shining brightly and full of confidence. Her skills that Edward had never known about surprised him one after another, catching him off guard.
Did she think these talents were good, but Edward didn't deserve them, and only Landon did?
So, Lily's affection for Edward was not love, but rather a compromise as a wife, an intentional effort to please.
Her true love was for Landon.
"Lily used to visit me every weekend before. Sometimes, she would accompany me for a walk. Sometimes, she would sit with me in the study for an entire afternoon, never feeling bored, reading or painting next to me.
"She had quite a good skill in painting, with at least ten years of experience.
"Lily looked handsome and confident when she painted. Her every move and gesture were not like those of an ordinary person; she was clearly a girl of noble birth.
Byron looked frustrated, sighed, and said, "She's much stronger than that superficial Nicole, but unfortunately, you're blind and ignorant, unable to recognize her worth."
Edward pursed his lips tightly and opened the oil painting.
Suddenly, Edward's chest trembled as if struck by lightning, his sharp gaze scanning the painting back and forth.
From the painting technique to its spirit, this painting was the same as the one hanging in Evelyn's office, which she wanted to give to him as a gift!
Edward suddenly remembered seeing Lily at the hotel where Evelyn was in charge, as well as the sound of Lily's footsteps in the corridor after leaving Evelyn's office. Could Lily know Evelyn?
Could it be a coincidence?
It couldn't be possible that Evelyn was Lily, right?
How could that be?
Lily was only superficial and inconsistent, not as cunning and treacherous as Evelyn.
On the other side, in Oasis Villa in Hameen, Landon had just returned from a business trip to Yatuok and was having dinner at home with Simon alongside Charlie.
During the meal, Landon reported on the progress of his work in Yatuok. Charlie nodded after listening, his stern and dignified face indicating approval.
Landon was good at Everything. He would prefer to see Jesus than even his own family. Power, fame, wealth, shares—nothing could stop him from becoming a pastor.
Why was he like this?
"Landon, you suddenly took away The Wellington Group's project this time, which is not like your usual way of doing things." Charlie took a sip of red wine and understood something. "Didn't you always advocate for resolving problems in an equal and harmonious manner? How come you resorted to seizing it by force this time? You seem a bit like my younger self."
"Peace is like a person's body. It may seem healthy, but you never know when it might fall ill." Landon gave an especially philosophical answer and elegantly took a sip of water.
Simon secretly smiled, thinking, 'Landon's move against The Wellington Group is definitely to vent his anger for Evelyn!'
"In business, you need to be flexible. As long as you don't break the law, you can use any means necessary. You did well this time!" Charlie patted Landon's shoulder, his gaze sharp and excited. "Besides, Patrick is my enemy. His grandfather bullied your great-grandmother. Hmph, we can slowly take revenge!"
Landon was speechless.
Simon sighed inwardly, 'So the Taylor family's ancestral motto is to hold a grudge for a hundred years!'
"By the way, how has Evelyn been doing in Mugden lately? She dealt with The Adams Group decisively, but if she mishandles things, I'm afraid she'll attract resentment and trouble."
"Aaron and Ulysses could never come back. Those of you by her side, you should always protect her, do you hear?" Charlie spoke calmly, but his eyes showed concern.
"I understand, Dad."
"Dad, don't worry. If anyone dares to bully Evelyn, the four of us will make sure they suffer!"
"They don't have to suffer; Just making them regret being alive is enough." Charlie squinted his eyes and calmly sipped his drink.
After dinner, Charlie and Landon left the table first.
Simon was about to leave when he noticed that Landon had left his phone on the table.
At the same time, the phone vibrated.
Edward's name was glaring on the screen.
Simon had malicious intentions as he looked around and then coughed lightly before answering the call.
"What do you need, Mr. Edward?"
"I'm looking for Lily." Edward's tone was cold, which annoyed Simon.
"Edward, are you seriously ill? What gives you the right to have Lily answer your call?"
There was a moment of silence on the other end, then he asked in a deep voice, "Are you Landon?"
Simon felt that Edward must have realized something, but he still pretended and said, "Mr. Wellington, if you are drunk, you can call your fiancée to relieve your boredom. I am not available for idle chat."
"Landon, if you want to defend Lily, you should do it openly and honestly instead of using underhanded methods." Edward's voice was icy and menacing.
"Well, Edward, the world is certainly not as big as your face!" Simon clenched his teeth in anger. "Do you not know who slandered Lily first?"
"If you want to plead for your future wife's family, show some humility! Don't act like we are begging you!"
On the other side, Edward clenched his fists tightly, his cheeks burning.
He had confidently spoken at countless high-level meetings, but Simon, a senior prosecutor, choked him and couldn't say a word.
"But I can tell you this: even if you are begging me now, I won't show mercy.
"Everyone who bullied Lily will pay a painful price!"
After speaking, Simon decisively ended the call.
Edward sat in his study, looking at the blank screen, his temples throbbing, his fingertips almost crushing the screen.
"Mr. Edward!" Bart hurriedly walked in. Seeing Edward's dark expression, he felt a bit timid.
"Speak!"
"I did as you instructed and investigated. It turns out that Charlie's wife, Victoria Brown, gave birth to five children. Except for the eldest son, Landon, who had some information available, the profiles of the other four members are all heavily encrypted and cannot be cracked!"
Edward's eyes suddenly lifted, and his dark gaze fell upon him, filled with a chilling murderous intent.
Bart's face turned pale, and his throat rolled. "Um...maybe I'll go settle my salary with the Human Resources department tomorrow..."
Having just finished bathing and applied a face mask, Evelyn walked downstairs in a snowy white bathrobe resembling a graceful swan and looked for some wine to drink.
"Ms. Taylor, if you need anything since you have difficulty moving around, just let me know. I'll help you get it," William hurriedly approached, his face full of concern.
"I'm just going to the wine cellar to get a bottle of red wine. It's no trouble at all. It's already past nine. Why are you still wearing a suit?"
Evelyn glanced at him and blinked her beautiful eyes. "When you come back here, treat it like your own home; don't be so restrained. Just change into casual clothes when you come back. I always feel like I'm in work mode 24/7 when you're like this, too tense."
Another reason was that this way, she would think of Edward.
Evelyn felt a bit embarrassed. In their three years of marriage, aside from that one night when she saw the man's strong and impressive physique, she had never seen Edward's body again.
Edward was a highly abstinent pervert. Even when he returned to Riverside Villa, he stayed holed up in the study and rarely came out. Everything was taken care of in the study except for going to the bathroom and taking a bath.
Only before bed would he remove the elite shackles - his suit - and change into a dark blue pajama to rest.
Edward was elegant and noble but also gloomy enough to suffocate.
But only Evelyn understood that within that man's cold and emotionless shell hid a burning and passionate soul.
Otherwise, how could they have had that night of confusion and infatuation? It was enough to linger in her memory for a lifetime.
"Ms. Taylo? Ms. Taylo?" William cocked his head and called her softly.
"Huh?"
Evelyn snapped out of her trance, her cheeks flushing and her clear eyes glistening with a hint of moisture.
"Your face is so red."
