Chapter 121 She Found It Dirty Because Edward had Touched It!
"Is this ever going to end?" Evelyn's fist hit the cabinet door. She took a deep breath, eyes red with anger. "I've said all I need to. If you don't believe me, I'm done talking!"
"Have we met before?" Edward leaned in, almost hovering over her. "Evelyn, did we meet a long time ago?"
Evelyn's heart tightened, and her lips lost their color. "You're overthinking it. We met when Bryon arranged our marriage. Before that, we never met."
'I hope Edward doesn't figure out I was the girl he saved ten years ago. The marriage is over. What good would it do to recall those years of love and pursuit? I have my pride. I don't want Edward to know I loved him for thirteen years. It's too humiliating.'
A trace of disappointment flashed in Edward's eyes. He felt there was more to the story.
"Let go, I need to get my things. I'm leaving." Evelyn's voice trembled as she pulled the cabinet door.
"Evelyn, you—"
"Stop asking! Enough!" Evelyn's voice sharpened. "We're divorced, Edward. Do you even understand what that means? Why dig into the past? Even if I once loved you deeply, so what? I don't love you anymore. Now, whenever I see these things I gave you, whenever I see you, I feel utterly disgusted!"
'Loved deeply.'
Edward only heard those two words echoing in his mind.
He grabbed her shoulders, turning her to face him.
He was stunned to see her eyes filled with tears, red and swollen.
"If you want to cry, just cry." Edward's voice was stiff, but his gaze softened.
"Cry? Can't you see I'm angry? Divorcing you is the best thing that ever happened to me. I could laugh in my sleep!"
Evelyn's eyes were cold, her chest heaving with anger. "From the moment I signed the divorce papers, I told myself I would never shed another tear for you, never."
Her words pierced Edward's heart.
Just as he was about to speak, there was a knock on the door.
"Edward, are you in there?" The butler spoke respectfully, "Ms. Adams is here, waiting for you downstairs. What should I do?"
Evelyn's vision darkened, her mood clouded.
Edward's face visibly darkened.
Downstairs, Nicole waited anxiously.
The servants whispered among themselves.
Everyone knew Edward's ex-wife was here. If they ran into each other, it would surely lead to another argument!
"Edward!" Nicole saw Edward walking down the stairs with a blank expression and rushed to hug his waist tightly.
Edward instinctively wanted to push her away, but she held on too tightly, like someone clinging to a lifeline.
"Edward, I miss you so much!" Nicole inhaled Edward's familiar scent, her longing driving her to tears. "I know I was wrong. I was just confused and took the wrong path. You know what kind of person I am! We grew up together!"
Nicole couldn't think of any other way but to evoke an emotional response.
Nicole had planned to follow Tiffany's advice and give Edward some space, waiting for his anger to cool down. But when she heard Evelyn was back, she couldn't stay calm and rushed to the Wellington family.
"Nicole," Edward's tone turned cold. "I told you, we shouldn't see each other right now. Go back."
"Why?!" Nicole cried, tears streaming down her face.
"Yeah, why?" A clear voice rang out from upstairs. Everyone looked up to see Evelyn, suitcase in hand, walking down confidently with her chin slightly raised.
Compared to the tearful Nicole, Evelyn looked composed and graceful.
Nicole clung tightly to Edward, her eyes flashing with anger as she glared at Evelyn's smiling face.
Edward's eyes darkened. His hands were on Nicole's shoulders, as if to push her away, but to Evelyn, it looked like they were being affectionate. 'No wonder he insisted I come to get my things. If I hadn't come, I wouldn't have seen this show.'
Evelyn just wanted to go home, take a shower, and change her clothes. 'Anything Edward touched feels dirty!'
"Ms. Adams is your fiancée. She came all this way to see you, why not meet her? Such a cold heart." Evelyn smiled at Nicole. "Ms. Adams, don't misunderstand. I'm just here to get my things. I'll be leaving soon. You two carry on."
Edward's throat tightened, his face turning pale, then dark, as his emotions churned.
Nicole was furious, but after the scandal at Byron's birthday party, she didn't dare confront Evelyn now.
"Oh, by the way, I don't want any of the things I left here, especially the ones I gave to Edward. When you move in, please take care of the trash. I've heard keeping an ex's things around can really affect a couple's relationship." Evelyn picked up her suitcase and walked past them with a light step.
Nicole was dumbfounded, and so were all the servants.
'The ex-wife meeting the current fiancée, not only was she not jealous, but also all smiles. Former Mrs. Wellington really had the grace to handle big things!'
As Evelyn walked out the villa door, Edward couldn't hold back any longer. He pushed Nicole away and strode after Evelyn.
"Edward!" Edward's sudden push sent Nicole sprawling onto the table, breaking dishes and cutting her wrist, her dress torn.
Meanwhile, Debra, hiding upstairs, witnessed the entire scene, fuming with anger.
Evelyn, carrying her suitcase and wearing slippers, walked out the door.
"Evelyn! Wait!" Edward called out urgently.
But she didn't stop, acting as if she hadn't heard.
"Edward! I've got shoes for Mrs. Wellington!" At this moment, Bart returned, sweating profusely, carrying a luxury shopping bag.
Edward quickly caught up, grabbed the bag, and blocked Evelyn's path.
"Take it." Edward handed Evelyn the shoes.
Evelyn glanced at them, took them without a word, and walked past him.
Edward's eyes deepened, his heart finally settling.
This was the first time she had accepted something from him, a sense of unprecedented satisfaction slowly rising within him.
However, in the next second, Edward was shocked as Evelyn, without even looking, threw the expensive shoes into the trash can.
Bart felt like he was being strangled, not daring to breathe.
Even with just a glance, he could see clearly, Edward's expression was very unpleasant.
