Chapter 579 William is Detained

Evelyn and Edward were ready to move back into their cozy love nest that night.

As they were about to leave, Molly threw herself into Evelyn's arms, bawling her eyes out. She clung to Evelyn's little black dress, crumpling it, and soaked her chest with tears.

Anyone who didn't know better would think they were never going to see each other again.

Evelyn spent a long time comforting Molly, promising to visit often. She sternly reminded Eric not to focus solely on the Clark Group, but to take Molly out more often. She didn't want Molly to feel like a caged bird, losing the joy of freedom.

Eric swore up and down, hugging the tearful Molly, standing at the door and watching them leave.

As the car drove on, Evelyn couldn't hold back any longer. Her shoulders shook, and crystal-clear tears rolled down her cheeks.

"Evelyn, don't cry."

Edward's voice was pained, his breathing quickened. He wrapped his strong arms around her trembling shoulders, pulling her into his embrace, his chin resting on her soft hair.

"It's not like you'll never see her again. If you miss Molly, you can invite her over to stay for a while. Or I can buy a bigger house, and if you want, she can live with us."

"Ellen will be the executive assistant soon; she'll be super busy. Molly being cared for by May is perfect."

"Hmph... Are you really Eric's best friend? Coming up with such a terrible idea."

Evelyn sniffed, her nose red, and poked him in the chest with her finger, "They've barely had any time to enjoy their life together, and you want to break them up just to make me happy?

Edward, you have no heart... Even if Molly doesn't say anything, you can bet Eric will curse you silently every day."

Edward was momentarily stunned, then his lips pressed against her tear-stained ones.

After a tender kiss, Edward smiled bitterly, "I didn't think it through. I saw Molly couldn't bear to part with you and thought I was doing a good thing."

"Don't interfere with them, you told me that."

Evelyn's breath was uneven, her eyes watery, and her heart fluttered. "So don't go messing things up."

Edward gazed deeply into her beautiful eyes, a barely perceptible mischievous smile tugging at his lips, "Evelyn, do you want me not to mess things up?

Or do you want our regained alone time not to be disturbed, hmm?"

Evelyn's face heated up, shyly biting her lip, "I... I'm not telling you."

Edward's eyes filled with warmth and affection. Just as he was about to kiss her again, her phone rang.

It was Evelyn's phone.

"Ugh... Let me answer it."

Evelyn struggled out of Edward's warm embrace and saw it was Jennifer calling. Her heart tightened.

Her sister was the least troublesome person. She wouldn't call unless it was urgent; something must have happened!

"Jennifer, what's wrong?" Evelyn answered immediately.

"Evelyn... please... save William."

Jennifer's voice broke as she heard Evelyn, tears streaming down, "He's been detained by the police!"

Evelyn's heart sank, "William's detained? For what?"

Edward's eyes narrowed, his hand tightly gripping her sweaty palm.

"It's... been a few days."

Jennifer was on the verge of collapse, crying uncontrollably. "Mom and I tried everything, even the Flynn family helped, but we couldn't get William out."

"What? Why didn't you tell me sooner!" Evelyn's voice cracked with urgency.

"Evelyn, calm down, don't scare Jennifer."

Edward gently squeezed her hand, his deep, soothing voice calming her. "Tell Jennifer not to panic, take it slow."

Evelyn took a deep breath. "Sorry, Jennifer... I didn't mean to snap. Don't cry, tell me everything. I want to know which jerk dared to mess with my people! I'll make them pay!"

Despite the urgency, Edward couldn't help but suppress a smile at her words.

"It was the Alexander family."

Jennifer sobbed, "I think... after Randy bullied me and got beaten up, the Alexander family took revenge on William. William was arrested for intentional injury. Randy even got a disability assessment, blaming all his injuries on William; now it's classified as a serious injury."

Including his impotence.

With the Alexander family's influence, they could easily tamper with the assessment, even forge one if needed!

"That bastard deserves the death penalty! I showed mercy by not killing him, and the Alexander family dares to retaliate?" Evelyn's fury was palpable, her eyes red with anger.

Jennifer said, "The Alexander family refuses any settlement."

"Ha, settlement? Impossible. They want William dead!"

Evelyn rubbed her throbbing temples, her chest aching with rage. "It must be Calvin, maybe even Gordon!"

"Gordon... Gordon is William's older brother, how could he?" Jennifer was shocked, incredulous.

"It's very possible."

Edward gently patted her back, his eyes cold as a deep pool. "Gordon is Mugden's top lawyer. His brother's been in trouble for days, yet he hasn't done anything, isn't that strange? Considering what you told me, Evelyn, Gordon, and William have a strained relationship. He might be using Randy's incident to sabotage William. For what, you know."

"William is his own brother, how could he!" Jennifer cried out in anger.

"Gordon only cares about fame and fortune; he has no family ties, no humanity!"

Evelyn's fist slammed against the car window, startling Bart and Edward, who worried about her hand. "I was the one who dealt with Randy, but they only dared to target William. Disgusting cowards!"

"Evelyn, you have me, too." Edward quickly wrapped her swollen fist in his hand, gently massaging it. "And with William's temperament, he wouldn't want to drag me into this; he'd bear it all alone."

Evelyn's throat tightened, guilt tearing at her heart. "I was careless, only focused on revenge, forgetting the danger to those around me. How could I be so useless!"

She used to plan meticulously, considering every step. But since falling in love, she was immersed in the warmth of romance, surrounded by happiness, her sense of external danger dulled!

"Evelyn, don't blame yourself. William's situation isn't your fault." Jennifer tried to comfort her.

Edward held Evelyn's trembling hand, taking the phone. "Jennifer, don't worry. Leave William's case to me. By sunset tomorrow, I'll bring William back to you, safe and sound."
