Chapter 224 Happy Cooperation
Debra's comments had everyone’s heads turning.
The info she dropped was straight-up dynamite:
First off, it pinned all the blame on KS WORLD, making Ada the victim in this whole mess.
Second, it showed that Evelyn still hadn’t cleaned up the chaos at her hotel and was rushing to host the "MINT" event, probably to cover up and prove her hotel wasn’t affected by Ada’s exit and could still handle big events.
Third, it called out Evelyn for majorly slacking as the general manager, saying KS WORLD hotel couldn’t meet guests' needs, had poor confidentiality, and security holes!
Ada wasted no time picking the Wellington Group, which basically said the Wellington family’s hotels were way better and more reliable than KS WORLD.
The reporters were all over it, firing tough questions at Evelyn who was stuck in the middle.
Evelyn knew today was gonna be a train wreck.
Debra was just stirring the pot, using the media to go after her and the hotel.
She glanced at Tiffany and Debra, whose smug looks couldn’t be hidden even with all that makeup.
'Bunch of clowns, seriously!' Evelyn thought.
Right then, Ada and Eiss, two big shots in fashion and entertainment, walked in and saw Evelyn getting roasted by Debra and swarmed by reporters.
Eiss, rocking her sunglasses, looked at the unbothered Evelyn and elbowed Ada, saying, "I think you shouldn’t ditch working with Ms. Taylor."
"Why?" Ada raised an eyebrow.
"Because her brother Landon is a total catch. No joke, Landon’s the hottest guy I’ve ever seen." Eiss’s eyes sparkled behind her shades, "He’s my dream guy."
"Landon’s your dream guy, so what’s that got to do with me not working with Ms. Taylor?" Ada asked, confused.
Eiss got serious, her voice softening, "For me, can’t you give Ms. Taylor another shot?"
Ada went quiet.
Up on the second floor, unnoticed, Edward stood tall by the railing, his eyes taking in everything below.
His intense gaze finally landed back on Evelyn’s calm and steady face, a slight, knowing smile playing on his lips.
He knew she wouldn’t go down easy.
Evelyn wasn’t scared of a fight. The more she fought, the more fired up she got.
"Edward, Mrs. Wellington’s getting hammered. Those clueless reporters are gonna write all kinds of crap to drag her down!" Bart looked downstairs, super worried, "Shouldn’t you do something to help her out?"
"No." Edward’s face turned cold again, "Even if Evelyn’s getting set up, I can’t step in. I’m part of the Wellington family, and jumping in would just make things messier. I trust she’s got a plan. I can’t mess that up."
Bart nodded, getting it. Evelyn wasn’t one to play by the rules, so it was best not to mess with her flow.
More importantly, Edward's rep had taken a nosedive with Evelyn. Jumping in now would probably just make her hate him more.
"Bart, we got two things to handle," Edward's deep voice was all business.
"Yes, sir!"
"First, I want that reporter gone from the domestic news scene."
"Got it!"
"Second, get the Wellington family's PR team on it. They need to keep an eye on online chatter. Any trash talk about Evelyn and KS WORLD hotel? Delete it ASAP."
"Understood!" Bart said, heading off to get it done.
Edward stood there alone, watching Evelyn's determined and stubborn face, his gaze softening bit by bit.
"Piece of cake. You are welcome," he murmured.
'On stage, you put on a show with your words and actions. Off stage, I've got your back,' he thought.
Downstairs, the chaos was still going strong.
"Ms. Taylor, we are sorry to hear that your deal with Ada fell through." Seeing all eyes on Evelyn, Tiffany couldn’t resist jumping in, "You’re new and young in management, so mistakes are bound to happen, but you’ll get better over time. Who hasn’t messed up when they were young? The key is to learn and fix it."
"Yeah, this time it was my bad, letting those with bad intentions get their way." Evelyn’s eyes narrowed slightly, her smile showing no hint of stress, "I’ll be more careful next time. Consider this a priceless lesson."
Tiffany sneered inside.
"Ms. Taylor, are you saying you were set up?" a reporter asked, surprised.
"Everyone, the charity auction is about to start. Please move to the event venue." Evelyn didn’t answer directly but gracefully walked to another spot, not even glancing at Tiffany and Debra, leaving them without any sense of victory.
"Evelyn thinks she can just drop some cryptic lines and turn things around? She’s dreaming!" Tiffany’s eyes were dark as she stared at Evelyn’s back, her tone dripping with malice.
"Did you see that? She didn’t even bother to argue!" Debra excitedly clung to Tiffany’s arm, "After the event, I’ll get some media to write pieces and 'promote' Evelyn, so everyone sees how useless she is as a hotel manager!"
"Mrs. Wellington, Debra!" At that moment, the unsung hero Jessica felt it was the right time and elegantly walked up to them, holding her skirt, "Good evening!"
"Jessica!" Tiffany warmly stepped forward to shake her hand, "I’ve been looking for you everywhere. Thought you didn’t come!"
"Tiffany, I gotta tell you something." Debra gave Jessica a grateful smile, "Thanks to Jessica’s help, Ada signed with us smoothly!"
"It was just a small effort, no big deal." Jessica smiled shyly.
"Jessica, I won’t forget your help."
Tiffany’s smile was meaningful as she stroked Jessica’s hand and said, "In the future, if you need anything, just ask. I’ll do my best to help you."
