Chapter 48 Can Sister-in-law Come Back?
After returning from the charity auction, Evelyn locked herself in her room and refused to come out, an unusual display of sadness.
The next evening, Landon and Simon came to the villa to visit Evelyn. Although Evelyn came downstairs to see them, she looked depressed and exhausted, completely devoid of energy.
"Evelyn, I heard from Mrs. Donna about what happened at the auction."
Landon hurriedly approached and gently held Evelyn's bandaged hand, tenderly stroking it over and over again. "How is your injury? Did William change the dressing for you? Does it still hurt? Is it infected?"
"I've also studied medicine. I can take care of the wound myself. He has enough to worry about; I don't want to trouble him with such a small matter." Evelyn pulled her hand back, her voice sounding dull.
"William is becoming more and more unreliable! If it wasn't for the day we ran into Mrs. Donna on our way home, and she told us about you being bullied by the Wellington family at the auction, we wouldn't have known!"
Simon glared, "Tomorrow, I will serve the subpoena to the Wellington family. Landon, you contact KnightSpear Group's legal team and formally sue those old witches for defamation! We'll wipe them out in one fell swoop! Damn it... if we don't teach them a lesson, they won't know our strength!"
"Forget it, it's not worth it."
Evelyn weakly leaned against Landon's broad chest, her voice sweet and soft, "We have legal professionals in our family. Don't you think the Wellington Group has them, too? If this matter escalates, Charlie will find out. It's unnecessary."
In fact, she is afraid that Charlie will find out about her and Edward's situation. Charlie couldn't break her legs, but Evelyn thought he might have a hypertensive fit. Although Charlie appeared strong, he was getting older, and she didn't want him to worry about these troublesome matters for her.
But that doesn't mean she will let Nicole go unpunished.
Looking at the wound on her hand and thinking about the gemstone bracelet she had been trying to fix for two whole days without success, tears welled up in Evelyn's eyes once again.
"I heard you got injured." Aaron was very worried, and now he was thinking of a way to return from the military. Ulysses was already on his way home and would be there soon. Landon held Charlie in his arms and gently smoothed her long hair.
"It's just a scrape on the hand. I can't bother Aaron and Ulysses! One is in a high position, and the other has responsibilities. How can they delay important matters for my minor issue?"
Evelyn was anxious, her cheeks turning red. She quickly took out her phone and angrily sent a voice message in the group chat.
"If anyone dares to come back at this time, I won't speak to them for a year!"
Aaron: Evelyn, I have already consulted with the commander...
"I don't care! If anyone comes back, they will lose their sister. You guys figure it out!"
But Ulysses remained quiet.
"I don't think you can stop Ulysses. He should be..." Simon pointed upwards, "He's flying up in the sky."
Evelyn sighed, feeling frustrated, and supported her forehead.
Ulysses had always liked to surprise her since childhood, and he was especially competitive in this aspect.
He wasn't by her side now. Otherwise, he could really spoil her and make her brothers lose to him.
"I don't care about him anymore. He's going to lose his sister!" Evelyn lightly pursed her red lips and played with the crystal cufflinks on Landon's shirt with her fingertips. "Landon, take me back to Hameen later. I want to go to Star Park."
Molly stepped forward to testify for Lily, completely offending the female members of both the Wellington family and the Adams family.
She was already tormented at home, and now she was even more agonized, feeling like she was being grilled over hot coals.
"Molly! Did you get bribed by that country girl? Did she send you here to harm us as a spy?!"
Tonight, Debra got a bit drunk and started acting crazy. She rushed into Molly's room with a grim look on her face, pointed at her, and cursed loudly, "You're such an ungrateful person. You usually seem so clueless. I thought you were innocent."
Heh heh... I didn't expect you to pretend to be foolish while scheming behind our backs. You seize any opportunity to stir up trouble. You really have skills now!"
"I, I didn't lie, I wasn't bribed... I told the truth!" Molly was frightened, her face turned pale, and she tightly hugged her favorite teddy bear. "You, you're bullying Lily... I don't want Lily to be bullied!"
It was a limited-edition doll that Evelyn had specially bought for her from Routiland. To buy it, Evelyn woke up early, braved the rain, and lined up for six hours. Molly hugged it every night before falling asleep.
"Oh... Molly, you dare to shout at me like that! Go to hell!"
Debra grabbed Molly's submissive hair, pulling so hard she almost ripped Molly's scalp off.
"Ah! It hurts... it hurts!"
"Did I permit you to straighten your hair?! Haven't I told you anything?!"
"I've said it before: You are not allowed to straighten your hair without my permission!" Debra squinted her eyes and shook Molly's head.
Truthfully, if it were only because of Lily, she wouldn't be this angry. After all, Nicole was the one suffering, and it didn't really concern her.
What she hated was that day when her crush, Eric, had initiated a conversation with Molly outside of Platinum Auction House!
Not only that, he had smiled and touched Molly's messy, curly hair.
Debra had witnessed the whole thing and was consumed by jealousy. She wanted nothing more than to shave Molly's head bald!
"Haha... I know your intentions! You're not really helping that country bumpkin, are you? You want to appear as a kind angel and seduce Mr. Clark, don't you?!"
"I... I..." Molly sobbed with tears in her eyes.
"You're just going head-to-head with us. We dislike Lily, so you deliberately want to help her to show how different and kind-hearted you are?!"
Debra's beautiful face contorted in anger. "You're so promiscuous! You're like a fool. Mr. Clark could never like you. Don't delude yourself!"
"Ms. Debra! What are you doing!" May hurriedly ran in and embraced the tearful Molly.
The other servants of the Wellington family were used to these things, so no one dared to intervene with Debra.
But May was Edward's person, the longest-serving maid of the Wellington family, and she had always been caring. So, she was the only one who dared to stand up for Debra.
"May, leave! Mind your own business!" Debra snapped at May.
"I think it's you who needs to leave!"
While comforting the trembling Molly, May warned Debra with her eyes. "If you leave this house immediately, I will act like I didn't see anything. Otherwise, when Mr. Edward comes back, I will tell him in detail how you bullied Miss. Molly."
Debra trembled, biting her teeth in frustration.
If Edward had found out what she was like at home, and since he had a good relationship with Eric, he would have definitely told him. If Edward had obstructed her, it would have been even harder for her to pursue Eric.
Considering this, Debra had to back off temporarily.
But she still felt unsatisfied. As she left, she snatched the teddy bear from Molly's arms and forcefully threw it out the window.
"Ah! My teddy bear!"
"Junk, it's really an eyesore!" Debra huffed and casually left the room, flipping her wavy hair.
Molly didn't even bother to put on her shoes and rushed barefoot outside the villa.
Edward happened to return to Riverside Villa and was startled by her panicked appearance.
"Molly, what happened?" Edward stopped her and furrowed his brows with concern.
Although he disliked Tiffany and wasn't fond of Debra, he still felt pity for fragile Molly.
Especially since the day before yesterday, she had the courage to testify for Lily, which made him admire this young girl even more.
"My Teddy...my Teddy is missing..." Molly said tearfully and with a runny nose.
"Don't worry, I'll help you find it."
Edward led Molly to the backyard.
In the end, they found the lone teddy bear doll lying in a muddy flower bed.
Edward was a clean and tidy person; his handmade designer leather shoes were always spotless. But now, he disregarded the dirtiness and stepped into the flower bed, personally helping Molly retrieve the toy.
The teddy bear was covered in dirt, but Molly didn't mind at all. She tightly hugged it as if it were a precious treasure and sobbed.
Edward was never a soft-hearted person, but seeing her crying so sadly, he felt a slight pang in his heart.
"It's dirty, let's throw it away. I'll buy you a new one Tomorrow."
"No...I want this one...my sister-in-law gave it to me... it's my favorite toy!"
Edward's chest trembled. He didn't expect her feelings for Lily to run so deep.
Molly remembered Lily's kindness towards her in the past; she remembered the torment she endured every day in this vast estate without Lily; she remembered Patrick's neglect, Tiffany's indifference, and Debra's bullying towards her...
"Edward!"
Molly suddenly threw herself into Edward's arms, crying uncontrollably. "Can my sister-in-law, Lily, come back? I really miss her. Can you please not separate us?"
Edward's thin lips twitched a bitter emotion clogging his throat.
He rubbed her hair with his large hand, unable to say a single word. He was afraid that if he spoke, she would only be more heartbroken.
At that moment, his phone rang.
Byron's call interrupted his complex emotions.
"Grandfather."
"Why can't I reach Lily on the phone again?"
The older Byron became, the more he resembled a child. He sounded so anxious on the other end of the phone, "What happened to Lily? I can never find her lately! She doesn't come to see me anymore! Does Lily not want me anymore?!"
"You bastard! Scum! Jerk! It's all your fault, all your fault, it's on you! If Lily is ignoring me because of you, then I will treat you as if you were dead from now on!"
"Grandfather, Lily would never not want you. Don't think too much." Edward rubbed his forehead, his handsome face filled with worries.
"Quickly help me get in touch with Lily! I want to see my lovely granddaughter-in-law! Go find her!"
