Chapter 471 Edward, I forgive you.
Landon and Ulysses helped move the body; otherwise, with Edward being so big, Evelyn's thin arms and legs wouldn't be able to handle him.
After cleaning him up, they left the ward.
Outside the door, Ulysses rubbed his still sore ribs, baring his teeth and giving Landon a resentful look.
"Landon, I'm in so much pain. You broke me."
Landon didn't even glance at him. "Shut up."
"I'm your brother! We have the same mom. How could you be so cruel to me? My bones are about to break!" Ulysses pouted, looking aggrieved.
This act of pouting and being cute was something only Landon could see.
"I'm punishing you. You need to learn that your words have consequences."
"I was just joking. Why are you so humorless?"
Saying this, Ulysses glanced down at his crotch and snorted in dissatisfaction.
"By the way, Evelyn stays in the ward every day without eating, drinking, sleeping, or even checking her phone. Doesn't she get bored?" Ulysses couldn't help but ask.
"No, watching over the one you love, how could that be boring?"
Ulysses furrowed his handsome brows, "I can't understand."
"Ulysses, since we were kids, we always thought you were the smartest among us. It's just that you're a late bloomer when it comes to emotions. Right now, you can't understand what it feels like to love someone with all your heart."
Landon's heart trembled, his thoughts wandering, his gaze lost in hazy memories. "It's not just about watching over a person; even watching over a photo, you wouldn't feel lonely."
At that moment, footsteps approached.
Landon's eyes suddenly lifted, seeing Adrian walking towards him with his hands casually in the pockets of his white coat.
He smiled lightly, his clear, long eyes slightly curved, as refreshing as a beam of dazzling sunlight piercing the dark room of his heart.
Landon's body, hidden beneath his sharp suit, suddenly trembled, as if a bullet shot from a distant place had hit his heart unexpectedly.
In the ward, a peaceful atmosphere prevailed.
As usual, Evelyn was whispering in Edward's ear, recounting the thrilling moments they had experienced together.
Adrian had previously told her that for patients in a deep coma or vegetative state, consistent brain stimulation, such as talking to them and recounting memorable events, might help them wake up.
As long as there was a glimmer of hope, Evelyn would not give up.
"Edward, wake up. If you wake up, I'll tell you a secret."
"Forget it, as long as you wake up, I'll tell you everything."
"Please wake up, okay? I'm begging you."
Evelyn whispered hoarsely in his ear, tears welling up, wanting to cry out loud.
Now, she wanted nothing else; she just wanted Edward to appear in her life again, as spirited as before, becoming the dawn that illuminated her life.
However, he responded with a silence that broke her heart.
Evelyn's beautiful eyes were filled with tears, ready to fall.
She held Edward's hand, opening his palm.
With trembling fingers, she wrote three words she had long wanted to tell him but had been too shy to say.
As she finished the last stroke, Evelyn could no longer hold back her long-suppressed emotions. Tears streamed down her thin cheeks, full of sorrow, breaking hearts.
Suddenly, she felt Edward's rough, calloused fingers move slightly!
She rubbed her eyes hard, staring at Edward's hand, thinking she was hallucinating from exhaustion!
"Edward, Edward?" Evelyn's voice trembled, choking, cautiously calling his name.
"Edward, can you hear me? If you can, move your fingers, Edward!"
"Evelyn."
A weak, floating voice, in the room with just the two of them, was so clear it seemed to shake the walls, thrilling Evelyn!
"Edward! Are you awake? Can you hear me? Edward!"
"Evelyn." Edward's pale lips moved, like a murmur in a dream.
Even in his dreams, the only person he thought of was Evelyn.
"I'm here! I'm here!" Evelyn responded quickly, her voice choked with sobs, tears streaming down her face.
The next second, Edward slowly spread his fingers, trembling as he interlocked them with hers.
Once strong and brave, protecting her from the wind and rain, Edward now struggled with even this simple action.
"What did you write in my palm just now?"
Evelyn's cheeks burned, her ears turning red as if they were about to bleed.
"Don't write it. I want you to say it to me." Edward slowly opened his eyes, full of anticipation.
Evelyn's heart raced, her cheeks flushing red, spreading to her neck.
Evelyn, like a blooming red rose before his eyes, was so alluring, inviting him to pick her.
She slowly leaned down, her body pressing against his chest, whispering, "I love you."
Edward's eyes filled with heart-wrenching tears. Every word she spoke etched a deep mark on his beating heart.
Finally, he had waited for her confession again.
Others gained love with sincerity. He needed not only sincerity but also to risk his life.
Evelyn coughed lightly, too embarrassed to meet his passionate gaze, and got up to press the call button to summon the doctor and Landon.
Suddenly, she let out a low cry, falling into Edward's arms.
Edward, infused with immense strength from those three words, pulled her into his embrace, wrapping his uninjured right arm around her waist, holding her tightly, his voice hoarse beyond recognition.
"I thought I'd never hear you say you love me again."
"There was once a sincere love in front of you, but you didn't cherish it. Is that my fault?" Evelyn, like a soft kitten, curled up on him, complaining in a muffled voice.
"It's my fault, all my fault. I deserve to die."
Edward's large hand rubbed her waist, recalling the times she cried and confessed her love to him, feeling a pain worse than a thousand arrows piercing his heart, gasping for breath, choked with sobs.
"I know you've never truly forgiven me, even if you say you love me."
Love and forgiveness were not the same emotions.
She loved him, gave herself to him, but that didn't mean she forgave him. He wasn't that presumptuous, nor did he expect her to let go of her resentment.
"It's all in the past." Evelyn closed her eyes, smiling with relief, "Edward, I forgive you."
Unknowingly, Edward's tears flowed like a river.
