Chapter 263 What Exactly Happened Before?

Edward felt like his whole world just flipped upside down, his heart getting wrecked with this crazy, gut-wrenching pain.

He'd done a ton for her.

Like, he never even popped the question, so she never got what other wifves had.

Like, on their wedding night, he ditched her in the bridal suite and crashed in another room.

Like, he never spent holidays with her or gave her any gifts.

Like, when Byron and she had that car crash, he didn't even rush to her side.

But all that stuff? It didn't sting as much as knowing that during Evelyn's prime, when she was head over heels for him, he was into someone else.

Edward's drop-dead gorgeous eyes were all bloodshot, and he clutched Evelyn's soft hand, pressing it hard against his chest.

He was drowning in regret.

Regret was for suckers.

"Edward, Evelyn's given up and sacrificed so much for you," Aaron said, his voice heavy with the weight of thirteen years of Evelyn's suffering. Just thinking about it made his heart ache. "Do you even know Evelyn almost lost her life because of you? She chased after you..."

"Aaron, shut it!" Landon cut him off, his brows knitting together in frustration.

Aaron bit back the rest of his words, his fists clenching in anger.

He really wanted to deck Edward.

But he wasn't like Ulysses, who'd act without a word. Over the years, he'd lost his youthful impulsiveness and gained more reason and calm.

Only Evelyn could throw him into chaos and ignite his fiery spirit.

"What do you mean by that?" Edward felt a sharp pain in his chest, sensing that Evelyn had even bigger secrets hidden from him. Doubts tangled around his pounding heart. "You said Evelyn almost died because of me? When? Tell me when it happened!"

"Edward," Landon said coldly, his face dark. "What's between you and Evelyn is history. She doesn't want to dig it up, and neither will we. Your drama ends here. But if you keep chasing after Evelyn and messing with her life, don't blame me for getting ruthless."

Aaron's angry words followed, "Edward, if you have any feelings left for Evelyn, leave her alone! You've hurt her enough. Do you want her to waste her whole life on you, ruined by you? Do you, who once ditched her, still think you deserve her?"

Evelyn was rushed to the hospital by Landon and Aaron.

Landon kept it on the down-low, and the helicopter was dispatched from Dubline, so Charlie didn't know yet.

Otherwise, if Charlie found out Evelyn almost died in the valley, he'd lose it!

It was like Evelyn had this magnetic pull; Edward didn't leave after getting off the helicopter but followed Landon and Aaron all the way.

He watched her get taken into the emergency room, then moved to a regular ward. Only then did his anxious heart start to chill out.

"Edward, remember what you said? You said you'd leave once we got to the hospital. Why are you still here?" Aaron, tall and imposing, blocked the door to the ward, asking in exasperation.

"I'll leave once she wakes up," Edward said, standing pale in front of him.

Even if it seemed totally shameless and over the line, he was cool with it.

Bart was right; Edward and Evelyn were done.

Being shameless might be his only shot.

"Edward! You have no shame!" Aaron, usually chill, lost it.

Edward stood there, taking it.

He'd heard it a million times; he was numb to it.

"Edward, Evelyn and Aaron haven't seen each other in ages." Landon walked over, looking serious, speaking calmly, "She'd rather see Aaron than you. Your being here messes with her recovery and our reunion. Now that she's with us, you got no reason to worry or stick around. So, please leave." Landon's eyes were steady, his tone flat, no drama.

But to Edward, every word from Landon was like a knife, cutting deep, draining him.

Outside, the rain had stopped, and the sky was lightening up, like a sad, lonely blue velvet.

Edward held his soaked coat, trudging away.

The coat still felt like it had Evelyn's warmth. He was freezing, but he clutched it tighter.

"Evelyn's given up so much for you,"

"Do you even know Evelyn almost lost her life because of you?"

Aaron's previous sharp words echoed in Edward's mind, his temples throbbing, the pain spreading through his body.

'She chased me. Then What happened?'

'Sacrifice, what did she sacrifice? What else happened?'

"Edward!"

"Edward!"

Edward struggled to lift his eyes, sweat rolling down his chiseled face.

Through his blurred vision, he saw Eric and Bart running towards him.

"Edward, why do you look so pale? You okay?" Bart asked.

"I'm fine." Edward lowered his head, staring at the coat in his hands.

"And Mrs. Wellington? Did you find her? How is she?" Bart asked anxiously.

Before Edward could respond, a tall figure bumped into his shoulder and walked straight into the hospital.

"William, are you blind?" Bart shouted angrily at William's back.

The collision made Edward's blood churn. Though he was tall and strong, he was now trembling, like he was falling apart.

William glanced back, sneering.

"Edward is at least the savior of Ms. Taylor. What kind of attitude is that?" Bart was furious, ready to throw down.

"That's his time of atoning for what he owes Evelyn. You think I'm gonna thank him? No way." With that, William gritted his teeth and walked away without looking back.

Edward felt a heavy pain in his chest, sweat pouring from his forehead, his hands clenched so tightly they were red, his fingers almost digging into his flesh, yet he felt no pain.

Because a deeper pain was spreading through his spine, tormenting his will.

"Edward, something's wrong with you! Let's go to the hospital, Edward!" Before Eric could finish, Edward couldn't hold it in any longer. A gush of blood surged up and spewed from his mouth!

"Edward!" Bart was almost in tears!

William was also shocked, not expecting Edward, who had just been talking to him, to suddenly vomit blood.

The next second, Edward's body shook violently and fell to the ground.
