Chapter 532 Your Eyes Can Only Look at Me

Evelyn's heart skipped a beat as she stared at Charlie's handsome profile.

Edward's eyes were filled with tension and worry, his body taut like a drawn bow, ready to rush over and take Evelyn's hand to leave everything behind.

Patrick and the Clark family members also looked displeased.

Especially Jessica, who stared at Evelyn with a mix of anxiety and malice, her voice dripping with disdain, "Ms. Taylor has a fiancé? I wonder which family is so lucky to be able to marry into the Taylor family?"

Patrick gritted his teeth, "No matter who the Taylor family marries, it won't be us, the Wellington family!"

Jessica's smile grew wider, her heart finally at ease.

Sawyer Wilson's expression darkened visibly. He thought Charlie was just making excuses to help Evelyn out of a tight spot.

At the racetrack, he had seen Evelyn and Edward's closeness, but in their high society, such affairs were common. If Edward were her fiancé, Charlie would have announced it at the racetrack, not waited until now.

Gavin, however, remained calm and smiled, "So Evelyn already has a fiancé? That's wonderful news. I wonder which young man is so fortunate?"

Everyone's curiosity was piqued.

Charlie smiled faintly and then casually glanced at Edward.

Sawyer followed his gaze and knew who he was looking at, his teeth grinding in frustration.

"Edward! Am I seeing things? Is Mr. Taylor looking at you?" Eric clutched Edward's arm, shaking it wildly.

Edward's breathing quickened, sweat forming on his forehead, but his voice remained low, "Don't overthink it. Mr. Taylor might just be using this as an excuse to reject Sawyer Wilson's advances."

"Then why is Mr. Taylor looking over here?"

Eric was still excited, "It's just the two of us here. Mr. Taylor must be looking at you. He wouldn't be looking at me!"

Edward's heart pounded, trying to control his breathing.

His intense gaze was fixed on Evelyn.

"Our Taylor family has always been low-key, including my daughter. We don't like to expose our private lives to the public for attention."

"Tonight is Mr. Gavin Wilson's carefully prepared business banquet. It's not appropriate for us to overshadow it with our family matters. Evelyn and I both feel that now is not the right time to announce the engagement. When the time is right, we will make it public."

Charlie withdrew his gaze from Edward, "When the time comes, Mr. Gavin Wilson, if you don't mind, I will personally send you an invitation to witness it in Hameen. How does that sound?"

"I haven't been to Hameen yet. I've heard it's a beautiful place with blue waters and white sandy beaches. You gotta let me know when the time comes!" Gavin said smoothly.

Evelyn felt a wave of relief as Charlie managed to steer the conversation away.

Charlie had been unpredictable lately, sometimes acting out of character, quite sensible, almost like he had split personalities.

Seeing the matter seemingly come to an end, the guests began to murmur among themselves.

"Who is Evelyn's fiancé? I saw her close to Mr. Taylor before. Elbert and Mr. Taylor are good friends, so maybe her fiancé is Gilbert?"

"If it were him, he wouldn't be absent tonight. I think Evelyn and Gilbert are just friends. I bet it's Mr. Wellington!"

"I think so too. Wasn't it obvious at the racetrack? When Ms. Taylor was injured, who stayed by her side? If her fiancé were Gilbert, he would have shown up."

Jennifer gazed at Evelyn's blushing face, feeling envious, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears.

Her father's intentions were clear. Evelyn's fiancé could only be Edward.

How wonderful it was to have parental approval and to be with the one you love.

Jennifer didn't hate Evelyn, nor her parents.

The Flynn family's Gordon had helped Evelyn and Edward's enemies escape punishment, and the Flynn family's status couldn't offer much help.

Thinking about it, Jennifer's eyes reddened, her pain hidden deep inside.

She was the most incapable child in her family. If her marriage could help her family, she was willing to make any sacrifice.

The small interlude ended, and the banquet continued.

The Wilson family's attempt to arrange a marriage with the Taylor family failed, boosting the Wellington Group and the Clark Group's confidence. Even Calvin was eager to act.

Sawyer Wilson was rejected by Evelyn, his face grim. Gavin noticed Sawyer's displeasure but kept his thoughts to himself.

So, the Taylor family was unlikely to be the partner for the racetrack hotel project.

The music changed, signaling the start of the dance.

Everyone found their dance partners and moved to the center of the banquet hall, dancing gracefully, creating a lively and joyful atmosphere.

Evelyn knew Jennifer was shy and had never attended such a high-end dance before, likely feeling anxious. So, the sisters walked to the side, chatting and drinking juice.

The young men around them watched Jennifer with eager eyes, wanting to ask her to dance.

But Evelyn's strong presence kept them at bay, none daring to approach.

Jennifer didn't show her inner turmoil in front of Evelyn, speaking very little.

Evelyn tightly held Jennifer's cold hand, taking a deep breath. "Jennifer, I won't let you jump into the fire. Trust me, I'll make sure you marry the one you love."

"Evelyn, I'm fine," Jennifer said, her fingers trembling as she forced a smile. "I won't refuse the arranged marriage. I'll follow whatever Dad and Mom decide. You should focus on being with Mr. Wellington and not worry about me."

"Silly Jennifer! What are you talking about? How could I sacrifice your lifelong happiness for my own? What kind of person would that make me?" Evelyn's voice grew hoarse with urgency. "If you and William don't work out, I'd rather never marry!"

"Evelyn... don't be stubborn. I'm willing, it has nothing to do with you!" Jennifer was anxious, about to continue persuading her when someone spoke:

"Ms. Evelyn Taylor, may I have this dance?"

The sisters looked up simultaneously.

Sawyer stood before Evelyn, slightly bowing, extending his hand with a gentlemanly gesture, his eyes full of hope.

Evelyn's expression remained calm, about to speak when Sawyer interrupted, "Ms. Evelyn Taylor, if you don't give me a chance to pursue you, won't you at least give me a chance to dance with you? Dancing is just a social activity. Please don't overthink it. I only admire and respect you, with no ulterior motives."

Everyone around them turned to watch.

Jennifer frowned slightly, seeing clearly that Evelyn genuinely disliked Sawyer. But he had cornered Evelyn. If she refused, it would seem arrogant and disrespectful.

After an awkward silence, Evelyn had no better way to refuse and reluctantly raised her hand.

Suddenly, a cold and imposing figure, Edward, appeared.

Before Sawyer could react, the delicate hand in front of him was abruptly taken away!

Evelyn's eyes widened as the scene before her blurred. With a few swift spins, she was led into the spotlight of the dance floor, under everyone's gaze.

Around them, murmurs of admiration echoed.

She lifted her long lashes, meeting Edward's gaze, her body trembling slightly as he held her close, her skin warming.

Edward's hot breath brushed her nose, his intense gaze fixed on her. He stubbornly intertwined their fingers, raising his right arm elegantly, his left arm around her waist, his damp palm pressing against her lower back, almost soaking through her thin dress, feeling the seductive curves that drove him wild.

Her back stiffened as he spun gracefully.

Evelyn knew how to dance, but now her body felt numb, her breathing rapid, struggling to follow his steps, making Edward smile; his heart moved.

"What... what are you doing?" she managed to whisper.

"If I hadn't come, would you be dancing with a wolf?" Edward's lips brushed her ear, his breath heavy.

Evelyn bit her lip in frustration, her cheeks flushed. "Am I not dancing with a wolf now?"

"Yes, I am a wolf, and one that will devour you." Edward tilted his chin, spinning her almost off the ground, strong yet graceful. "Focus, Evelyn. Your eyes should only be on me."

Their stunning figures became the highlight of the banquet hall, stealing the spotlight.

Except for Jessica, all the women were convinced. Only Evelyn was worthy of Edward, and vice versa.

Jessica's eyes burned with anger, but she could only watch helplessly.

Sawyer, having been interrupted, was also furious.

At that moment, Gavin's steward approached, speaking softly and respectfully, "Mr. Sawyer Wilson, the master suggests you choose the Clark family's young lady as your dance partner. She is the only one here who matches your status, and though not as beautiful as Ms. Taylor, she won't disgrace you."

"Her? That gaudy, tacky woman dressed like a turkey? I'd rather not dance at all!" Sawyer, also temperamental, had no interest in Jessica and stormed off.

Evelyn was suddenly taken away by Edward, leaving Jennifer alone, feeling a bit lost.

Seeing Jennifer alone, the men eyed her like wolves, ready to approach.

Just then, a figure limped towards Jennifer.

"Look, isn't that Randy from the Alexander family?"

"It really is! He hasn't been seen in a while. I thought he..."

"I heard he had a severe car accident, and almost died. The Alexander family sought out the famous White God to heal him. Unfortunately... he's now disabled!"

"Randy used to be arrogant, looking down on those with lesser status. This injury must have hit him hard, humbling him."

Randy had spent the past week working out intensely, wearing an expensive suit, and styling his hair meticulously, all to make a good impression on Jennifer. And to prove to the world that despite losing a leg, he was still the noble heir to the Alexander family!

Jennifer's heart raced, even taking a step back.

"Ms. Taylor, I..." Randy stood before her, realizing he couldn't dance anymore. He could only smile bitterly and change his approach, "I saw you standing alone, looking bored. May I sit with you and chat?"

Jennifer tensed up, hesitating, when her phone vibrated. She glanced at the screen, seeing William's name.
