Chapter 583 The Despicable Plot of Two Bastards
To avoid causing trouble for Evelyn, William turned himself in to the police and signed a confession without hesitation after Gordon confronted him.
Gordon didn't even inform Calvin about his actions and worked behind the scenes quickly, catching both Evelyn and Edward off guard.
Edward held Evelyn's trembling body tightly, glaring at Gordon's smug face. "Gordon, what dirty trick did you use to make William confess?"
"Dirty trick? Mr. Wellington, that's quite the accusation. You're hurting my feelings here; I might need compensation for emotional distress."
Gordon rubbed his chest, his expression smug and gloating. "Interrogating suspects is the police's job. I'm just a simple lawyer. I don't have that kind of power. William signed that confession willingly. I didn't force him."
"Gordon... evil will never prevail over good. You'll eventually face the consequences of your actions. And don't think for a second that you've won, not until the very end."
Evelyn's eyes flashed with fierce determination as she gripped Edward's hand tightly, as if it were the only thing keeping her from losing her composure. "As long as I'm alive, Gordon, you will never win."
"Well then, I'll wait and see how Ms. Taylor plans to win. Just don't keep me waiting too long." Gordon's wicked smile made him look like a devil.
They had planned everything meticulously, but they overlooked one crucial detail.
That detail was that Gordon was William's older brother. They grew up together, and despite their vastly different characters, one thing was undeniable.
Gordon, as the elder brother, knew William inside and out.
When Gordon went to negotiate with William, Evelyn and Edward hadn't arrived at the police station yet. But Gordon already dared to exploit William's weaknesses, hitting him where it hurt most.
And William's weaknesses were Evelyn and Jennifer.
Threatening them made William willing to die without hesitation.
Calvin's eyes darkened. So Gordon had gone behind his back and managed everything so efficiently.
Even though William confessed, Calvin felt no gratitude towards this self-serving, heartless man.
Edward was right; Gordon was a heartless bastard. If he could betray William for his own gain today, he would do the same to Calvin tomorrow.
This man needed to be watched.
"Chief Carter, since the suspect has confessed, we can proceed with formally charging William and sentencing him according to the law," Gordon said eagerly, wanting to seal William's fate and make Evelyn regret it forever.
Chief Carter shared the same sentiment. How else could he curry favor with the Alexander family? He immediately responded, "With the evidence solid, let's proceed according to protocol..."
"Hold on!"
A clear, authoritative voice broke the heavy atmosphere like a timely rain.
Everyone was stunned. "What?"
Two figures walked calmly into the office.
Seeing them, Evelyn exclaimed excitedly, "Landon!"
"Evelyn, why didn't you tell me you were coming to a place like this?"
Landon's eyebrows furrowed in mock anger. "Have you forgotten about your brother now that you have Edward?"
"Exactly, you two are so headstrong, making us worry!" Adrian chimed in from behind Landon, echoing his sentiments.
Though his tone was serious, his eyes peeked playfully over Landon's broad shoulder, winking at Evelyn.
Evelyn was speechless.
In such a serious moment, he still had the mood to flirt!
Suddenly, she realized something.
Why was Edward so quiet? Did he know Landon was coming?
"Edward, did you ask Landon to come?" Evelyn stared deeply at him, her eyes wide.
Edward's dark eyes flickered, and he whispered in her ear, "I'm sorry, Evelyn. I didn't mean to keep it from you. I didn't specifically ask Landon to come. I just asked Bart to inform him before we came. I didn't expect Landon to come directly, showing how much he cares about William and you. But why is Mr. Mays here, too? Are they inseparable?"
Evelyn pursed her lips and beckoned him closer, whispering, "Mr. Mays is here because I called him."
Edward was taken aback. "What?"
So she had kept it from him, too!
Both of them had their own plans, but fortunately, their goals were the same.
"Is it really necessary for the Taylor family to make such a big deal over a secretary?" Calvin sneered at Landon.
"But it's too late. William has already confessed."
Landon had previously stated in an interview that those who make mistakes must face punishment. Now, Calvin threw those words back at him.
As one of the current leaders of the four major families, Calvin had often clashed with Landon in the business world, always ending up defeated. No matter how prepared he was, he couldn't compete with Landon when KnightSpear Group was involved.
He had to maintain a facade of harmony due to their family ties, pretending to be magnanimous.
But now, the masks were off, and he could finally vent his frustration!
However, Landon remained unfazed, his deep, cold eyes narrowing slightly. "William is no ordinary secretary. Didn't anyone tell you? My father has already accepted William. As a member of the Flynn family, William is far more valuable than the dog at your side."
Gordon's face turned red and then white with anger.
William had gained Charlie's favor? How could he be so lucky? It was infuriating!
His anger was mixed with jealousy, distorting his features.
"Chief Carter, don't you police need evidence to handle cases? If I said I was going to destroy the world tomorrow, would you arrest me and sentence me now?" Adrian stepped forward, smirking coldly.
Chief Carter quickly responded, "Of course, we need evidence. Sir, please don't joke around."
"Then open your eyes and take a good look at this."
Adrian tossed a file onto the coffee table with a loud smack.
Chief Carter picked it up, surprised, and opened it to reveal the documents inside.
His eyes widened. "This... what is this?"
"It's Randy's previous medical diagnosis."
Hearing this, Calvin and Gordon's faces changed dramatically!
Edward's gaze at Evelyn became heated, filled with admiration.
He instantly understood why Evelyn had called Adrian. She had planned this all along.
"Impossible... how could this be?" Calvin snatched the diagnosis report from Chief Carter, reading it repeatedly, his eyes bulging.
Gordon's face turned pale, his heart pounding.
"Mr. Alexander, the Alexander family really kept this diagnosis under wraps. After all, Ms. Taylor saved Randy's life. If it weren't for her intervention at your father's request, Randy would be a living corpse by now."
Adrian's eyes were filled with disdain and disgust as he looked at Calvin. "You don't know gratitude, and instead, you blame Randy's old injuries on Ms. Taylor's secretary, trying to cover up the truth and alter the injury assessment. These tactics are despicable."
Calvin and Gordon had conspired to blame Randy's impotence on William, hoping it would meet the criteria for serious injury and result in a harsher sentence.
But their meticulous plan was easily exposed by Adrian!
Evelyn looked at Adrian with gratitude, and Adrian responded with a look that said, "No need to thank me."
The Alexander family thought they could control everything in Mugden, but they didn't account for the Mays family's stronger hospital connections.
"Randy lost his ability to have children... Evelyn is fully responsible!" Calvin shouted in frustration. "If it weren't for that damned surgery, Randy wouldn't be like this!"
The office fell silent.
Gordon's heart sank; too late to stop him.
Calvin's outburst was a sign of guilt, trying to pressure the opposition, but it only confirmed Adrian's statement that Randy's impotence was due to old injuries, not William.
Idiot!
How did he become president without any intelligence?
"Mr. Alexander, are you blind or illiterate?"
Adrian crossed his arms, eyes full of annoyance. "The report clearly states that Randy's impotence was caused by the excessive use of anesthetics and hormones before and after surgery. What does that have to do with Evelyn?"
Landon's deep eyes focused on him, a subtle smile spreading warmth silently.
"You... who are you to speak here?" Calvin, eyes red with anger, clenched his fists and approached Adrian aggressively.
Adrian's eyes sharpened.
But before he could react, Landon's tall frame instinctively shielded him, pushing Calvin back with a forceful shove.
"Watch out, Mr. Alexander!"
Calvin stumbled back several steps, barely caught by Chief Carter and Gordon.
"Mr. Taylor! This is a police station. Do you intend to assault someone?" Gordon demanded through gritted teeth.
"I have no such intention."
Landon's fists clenched, the knuckles cracking loudly. His gaze at Calvin was icy and threatening. "But if he dares to threaten Mr. Mays again, I can't guarantee his nose will remain intact on his face."
