Chapter 511: When did he do it?

In full view of everyone, Neil felt extremely embarrassed.

"Evelyn! I'm so glad you're okay!" Joyce's eyes were brimming with tears, overwhelmed with emotion.

Charlie couldn't care less about business now. Seeing that Evelyn was fine, he let out a long sigh of relief. The usually calm and composed Charlie was drenched in cold sweat.

He looked at Edward, who stood firmly by Evelyn's side, his gentle eyes focused solely on her.

Thinking back to the moment of the accident, Edward had rushed to Evelyn without hesitation. That genuine concern was genuine.

As the CEO of the Wellington Group, every move he made was closely watched. A single misstep could lead to widespread criticism or even ruin, but he didn't care.

It was as if he could give up the crown, but he could never give up Evelyn.

Lost in thought, Charlie remembered Victoria. He had once knelt before his father, willing to give up wealth and power to keep the woman he loved by his side.

Later, he married one woman after another.

People said Charlie was a philanderer, heartless, and unfaithful. There were even rumors that Victoria had died of a broken heart because she couldn't bear Charlie's repeated marriages.

No one understood Charlie's thoughts. Not even his children.

But it didn't matter. Charlie knew Victoria understood, and that was enough.

"Evelyn, am I wrong?" Neil asked awkwardly, a sinister glint in his eyes.

"You're right. But the problem is, those poor horses didn't meet me."

Evelyn's beautiful eyes sparkled with confidence, her radiant smile undiminished by her injuries. "With me around, the horses can be healed."

Everyone exchanged glances, sighing in amazement.

If anyone else had said this, it would have sounded like bragging. But Evelyn had a charm that made her bold statements endearing rather than off-putting. Her straightforward and vibrant personality made people look forward to the surprises she might bring.

Sawyer tilted his head, looking at Evelyn with amusement. "Such arrogance, such self-praise."

Debra crossed her arms and stepped forward, her left lip curling in disdain. "You killed the horse yourself and made up this lie to deceive Gavin and Sawyer, didn't you?"

Jessica hid behind Maurice, smiling darkly.

'Evelyn, you went through so much effort, almost got crippled, and ruined a horse worth millions of dollars.'

'In the end, the Taylor family project was lost, and you were despised by Gavin, Sawyer, and the entire Mugden. What a misfortune!'

"Evelyn, SilverSteed's leg has been set."

Edward's sharp eyes shot a piercing glance at Debra, making her shudder. "Not only that, but Dr. Adrian from the Mays family also sent over the latest anti-inflammatory medication developed by their biotech company. This medication works well on both humans and horses. So, the infection from the cut on SilverSteed's leg didn't spread, and its life was saved."

Landon smiled gently, recalling the tall figure in medical attire, his eyes filled with warmth.

Meanwhile, Adrian sat at home, furiously tapping his phone screen with his finger!

And the phone's wallpaper was a handsome picture of Landon.

"Damn it! Landon! You never call me unless you need something!"

Everyone was shocked, their incredulous eyes turning to Evelyn.

"Edward, are you saying Evelyn set the horse's leg? A horse's leg can be set?" Elbert asked, wide-eyed.

"Of course, Elbert. Have you forgotten Evelyn's other identity?"

Eric's eyes curved as he revealed the truth. "Evelyn is the renowned doctor 'White God'! Everyone worships her. Don't you know that?"

Evelyn felt a bit helpless.

"Oh! Right, right!" Elbert remembered when Randy had a car accident and broke his leg; it was Evelyn who performed the surgery. He slapped his forehead in excitement. "Oh my! Evelyn is White God! Evelyn is the benefactor of the Alexander family! How could I forget? With White God, what bone can't be set? Even if it's shattered into eight pieces, it's as easy as assembling a puzzle for Evelyn!"

Evelyn sighed, feeling helpless. The more they talked, the more exaggerated it became.

This was why she disliked revealing her identity. Being constantly talked about was annoying. She just wanted to do her work quietly, without seeking fame or power.

"Evelyn is White God?" Gavin's pupils contracted.

He knew of White God's reputation.

"Gavin." Evelyn walked up to Gavin and bowed, her attitude sincere and humble. "Although SilverSteed's injury occurred before it left the stable, I didn't notice it in time. Pushing it too hard worsened the injury, and I bear an undeniable responsibility. Even though I set its leg, it's regrettable that as a racehorse, it will never run freely again."

Her voice choked, and she struggled to continue.

Edward's heart felt like it was being squeezed by an invisible hand, his breath caught in his throat, and his eyes reddened.

He knew how much pain Evelyn was in when she bowed.

But he also knew that no physical pain could compare to the pain in her heart.

"What's the point of saying this now, Evelyn? SilverSteed's tragedy was caused by your competitiveness." Debra sneered, shaking her head. "A racehorse that can never race again. That's worse than killing it."

"Debra, you shouldn't speak so rudely," Patrick scolded, giving her a cold glance.

Debra pressed her lips tightly, swallowing the rest of her words.

"Evelyn, you said SilverSteed was injured before the race. How did that happen?"

Sawyer asked the crucial question at the crucial moment.

Everyone was intensely curious.

Debra looked at Jessica.

Jessica tried to appear calm, but clenched her fists in panic.

Edward didn't rush to answer Sawyer. Instead, he walked over, wrapped his strong arms around Evelyn's trembling waist, and carefully helped her up.

Evelyn's face was pale, a thin layer of sweat on her forehead from the pain. The once strong and fearless Evelyn turned into a soft, delicate kitten in Edward's arms, her eyes shimmering, her breath sweet.

Edward's breath was hot, his eyes deep, and the redness of his ears betrayed his emotions.

Sawyer noticed and frowned in displeasure.

At that moment, Gilbert walked over with heavy steps.

He saw the scene and felt a sharp pain in his chest, as if pierced by a thousand arrows. The successive blows felt like they were shattering his soul.

Gilbert suddenly grabbed the railing, his left hand curling into a tight fist, while his right hand instinctively pressed against his chest.

It hurt so much. Why did it hurt so much? It was unbearable.

"Gilbert! Are you okay? Are you feeling unwell?"

Curtis turned pale with fright and was about to support him, but Gilbert shoved him away harshly. "Get away, don't touch me!"

"Yes!" Curtis stepped aside, looking at Edward and Evelyn's intimate moment with eyes full of resentment.

No matter how Gilbert treated him, he would never blame his master.

He only hated Edward, hated him for breaking Gilbert's heart, hated him for destroying the hard-earned happiness Gilbert had found!

"The wound on the inside of SilverSteed's left leg was man-made, a long, narrow cut placed with precise depth and location."

Evelyn took a deep breath, her eyes filled with a misty anger. "Our KnightSpear Group's horses are worth millions of dollars, and they undergo comprehensive daily health checks. Especially with SilverSteed about to compete, our trainers would be extra cautious. But still, someone with ill intentions managed to sneak into the stable and harm SilverSteed!"

Everyone was stunned, except for Jessica, who glared venomously at Evelyn.

'That cut, just on the horse's leg, was too merciful. It should have been on Evelyn's face!'

"Evelyn's analysis is reasonable. Our Alexander family stables are highly professional, staffed entirely by our trusted and skilled personnel. Such an incident could only happen if someone deliberately intended it," Calvin said, trying to clear his family's name and support Evelyn. "This matter must be thoroughly investigated, and the culprit must be brought to justice."

"Calvin is right. The person who cut the horse's leg almost killed our Evelyn! How can we let this go?" Elbert agreed, his expression serious.

"Exactly, this is no different from attempted murder. In my opinion, the person responsible should be sentenced to death!" Helen said indignantly.

Hearing the word "death," Jessica's heart skipped a beat.

She took a deep breath to calm herself.

What was there to fear? Evelyn wasn't dead after all! She wouldn't be scared off by a few words!

"Elbert's words have enlightened me." Evelyn raised her eyes slightly, then spoke loudly after a brief pause. "One thing is certain: the person who harmed SilverSteed must be someone from within the stables. This doesn't mean they belong to the Alexander family, but it does mean they are an insider."

Everyone nodded in agreement.

Jessica's heart was in her throat, and she felt so nervous she almost wanted to vomit!

"The guests gathered here today are of high status, part of the upper class. They wouldn't casually wander into the stables; that would be too conspicuous."

"Excluding the staff arranged by the Alexander family, the only ones who could approach the stables are the trainers and jockeys sent by various families, as well as the trusted aides of the owners, who also have the possibility of sneaking in." Evelyn's quick thinking immediately narrowed down the range of suspects.

"In that case, Landon," Charlie paused, calling out to Landon.

"Yes, Dad." Landon stepped forward gracefully.

"Follow Evelyn's suggestion and investigate each one. Anyone who had access to the stables, including their subordinates, must be scrutinized!" Charlie ordered, his broad shoulders trembling slightly.

It was clear he was furious, unable to tolerate it any longer.

"I was thinking the same." Landon nodded solemnly.

Charlie then looked at Elbert. "Elbert, Calvin is the CEO of the Alexander family. Having him assist Landon would be convenient. You wouldn't mind, would you?"

"Why are you being so formal with me? How could we stand by and do nothing when something like this happens to Evelyn? Calvin, fully assist Charlie and make sure this matter is thoroughly investigated and resolved!" Elbert said sternly, feeling grateful.

Such a serious incident should be reported to the police. Charlie chose to handle it privately out of respect for their decades-long friendship.

If the police were involved, the media would be alerted. A scandal at the Alexander family stables, with the injured party being the eldest daughter of the Taylor family, would damage the Alexander family's reputation.

"Yes, I will do my best to help Charlie." As soon as Calvin finished speaking, Edward's eyes turned cold, and he spoke with a firm tone. "No need to trouble everyone. I've already caught the culprit."

Everyone was puzzled.

Evelyn suddenly stared at Edward, her beautiful eyes shining with disbelief and amazement!

"Bart, bring the person up."

The next moment, the sound of chaotic footsteps approached.

Under the escort of Bart and two other bodyguards, Barry, dirty and disheveled, stumbled before the crowd.

"Barry?"

The Clark family, except for Eric, was stunned!

Jessica's face turned as pale as plaster, and she staggered back a step.

One hour earlier, in a courtyard at the stables, Eric had called Edward over.

"Jessica?" Edward raised an eyebrow.

"I'm sure it was Jessica!" Eric's hand, holding a cigarette, trembled with anger.

"Calm down." Edward took a cigarette from him but only held it without smoking. "Jessica is from the Clark family. I'll give you a chance to handle this yourself. If I handle it, you might not be able to accept my methods."

"I feel like she was involved or knows something."

Eric still held a sliver of hope for Jessica, whom he had watched grow up. He was torn with self-doubt. "But Edward, I have no concrete evidence. I think she knows something. She hates that Evelyn is with you and has a motive. But Edward, I have no proof. I can't accuse her without evidence."

"Have you noticed that you've become more talkative since you started dating?" Edward glanced at him.

Eric was taken aback, then sighed helplessly. "Yes, I've been overthinking. It's not like before when I was carefree and did whatever I wanted. Now I have Molly, and I have concerns."

Edward clenched the cigarette, understanding without words.

"Also, I can help you investigate this quietly."

"I understand. Jessica is Maurice's beloved granddaughter. Now that you've just gone public with Molly, you need Maurice's support. This is not the time to stir up trouble and cause problems for Maurice."

Eric nodded frantically, looking touched as if Edward understood him completely.

Edward's cold lips curved into a smile, and he patted Eric's shoulder heavily. "I'm willing to be the bad guy, and I hope my actions won't harm the innocent. I want to see the guilty punished."
