Chapter 250 Don't Mind Being Enemies with the Wellington Family

In the study, Tiffany and Debra were both present

No way Patrick was letting Byron come over, 'cause to him, Byron was totally Team Edward.

By now, Patrick and Edward were like night and day.

Ever since Amanda, Edward's real mom, offed herself, they were just father and son on paper.

Their beef got even worse 'cause of Evelyn, which was exactly what Tiffany wanted.

When they were at each other's throats, fighting for their own gain, Tiffany could swoop in and milk the chaos for all it was worth from the Wellington family!

"I called you here to drop some news." Patrick lounged on the sofa, looking all icy, and tossed a freshly printed appointment letter at Edward. "I've decided to officially hire Gordon as the legal advisor for the Wellington Group, and also as the head of the legal department. This is going public first thing tomorrow. I've already signed it, so you don't need to."

Tiffany and Debra exchanged smug looks.

"I don't agree," Edward shot back, his brows furrowed with coldness.

"I don't need your agreement; my say-so is enough. Gordon's a top-notch talent. Don't you get how crucial it is for a company to have a killer lawyer?" Patrick

"You must've heard the chat between Evelyn and Gordon tonight, right?" Edward's eyes were dark, and he sneered, "That backstabbing, money-hungry, shady lawyer—are you bringing him in to team up with him?"

"You insolent brat!" Patrick shot up, the sudden move making him dizzy.

Luckily, Tiffany was there to catch him. "Patrick, chill out; it's bad for your health!" She gently patted his back, laughing inside.

"The Taylor family helped the Flynn family big time, even William Flynn is working for Knight Spear Group. Despite that, Gordon still holds a grudge and betrays them for his own gain. You think you can control him in the future? If someone offers him a better deal, you think he'll stay loyal to the Wellington family and work for you?" Edward nailed it, showing no respect.

"Edward! You're just using this as a lame excuse to protect Evelyn!" With no outsiders around, Patrick finally dropped the act, shouting with red-rimmed eyes, "You're protecting her so much—have you fallen for her?"

"So what if I have?" Edward's thin lips parted slightly, and he calmly dropped the bomb.

No one knew his heart was racing like crazy!

Hearing this, Patrick was hit like a ton of bricks, stunned!

Tiffany and Debra were also floored, not expecting that.

But they couldn't tell if Edward really had feelings for Evelyn or if he was just saying it to piss off Patrick.

"Edward! You have no room for regrets." Patrick was fuming, his eyes twitching and his voice cracking, "I'm telling you, even if you love Evelyn, you better kill that thought! As long as I'm alive, I will never agree to you being with Evelyn! If I knew she was Charlie's daughter from the start, I would never have let you marry her back then! She fooled our whole family for three years, wasting three years of your life!"

The verbal smackdown was like a thousand arrows piercing Edward's heart.

In a flash, anger turned Edward's eyes red, his pupils shrinking into two sharp, icy stars, filled with burning hatred.

The next second, Edward grabbed the crystal ashtray on the table, raised his arm high, and smashed it to the ground!

Patrick shuddered, and Tiffany and Debra screamed in terror!

The crystal ashtray shattered on the ground, pieces flying everywhere.

Some shards flew so high they cut Tiffany's dress and arm, drawing blood. She was both shocked and furious, nearly bursting into tears on the spot!

"Evelyn did nothing wrong. Who the hell are you to criticize her?" Edward's eyes were bloodshot, fists clenched tight, and he spat out each word, "What was wrong with her marrying me? In those three years, how did she wrong me? How did she wrong you or the Wellington family? I failed her; the whole Wellington family failed her! If anyone dares to badmouth her again, even you, don't blame me for not holding back!"

That look in his eyes—man, it was like he was part human, part demon.

Patrick's breath hitched, his lips trembling.

Years ago, when Amanda jumped, Edward held his mom's bloody body, giving Patrick that exact same look!

Patrick hated it, but he was also scared shitless!

Now, over some girl, Edward was ready to blow up his relationship with Patrick.

Tiffany and Debra came to see Edward crash and burn, but now they were scared stiff, barely daring to breathe.

Edward closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and decided he was done talking. He turned to leave.

"Edward!" Patrick called out, his voice shaky, "By protecting Evelyn like this, are you gonna side with the Taylor family and defy me? Don't forget where you come from. Without my support, how could you have risen to power, how could you control the Wellington family!"

Same old crap, nothing new.

Edward felt nothing, just bored.

"If you dare defy me, I'll fire you from your CEO position! I'll make you nobody!" Patrick was almost losing it.

Even Tiffany had rarely seen him this mad.

"If you wanna do it, then do it. If you really have the guts." Edward slowly glanced back, his gaze cold and resolute, "For her, I don't mind being an enemy of the entire Wellington family."

As Edward left the study, his broad shoulders slumped, feeling like his soul had been drained.

"Edward." A gentle voice called out, and he looked up with red-rimmed eyes to see Byron there.

He'd been so wrapped up in his emotions, he hadn't noticed anyone in the hallway.

Byron hadn't changed into pajamas and was still in his long robe, meaning he had no plans to stay overnight at Riverside Villa.

Since Lisa's death and Patrick marrying Tiffany, he no longer felt this was his home; Half Moon Bay, surrounded by mountains, was his real home.

"Byron." Edward spoke softly, realizing his voice was hoarse and his throat choked.

"I heard everything you said to Patrick in the study." Byron, sitting in a wheelchair, found it inconvenient to stand, so Edward bent down to make it easier for him to touch. "Even though talking back to Patrick is kinda rude, this time, we're on the same side!"

Byron patted his shoulder reassuringly, "I also don't want that Gordon guy joining the Wellington Group. You're right; profit-driven people don't fit our vibe! Don't worry, even though I'm retired, I'm not completely out of the loop. If Patrick insists, I'll step in to stop him."

"Byron, as the president, this is my job. You should enjoy your retirement and not stress over this stuff." Edward didn't want to bother Byron with such a small issue.

"It's fine, it's fine!" Byron blinked expectantly, "Earlier, you said you wanted to protect Lily and that you had feelings for her. Were you serious?"

Edward's eyes widened, his heart pounding.

After a moment, he swallowed and replied in a deep voice, "I spoke without thinking in the heat of the moment. I didn't mean it."

"If you don't wanna admit it, that's on you!" Byron seemed pretty disappointed.

Edward frowned, "Byron."

"Come on, take me back. I'm bored; keep me company and chat with me!"

"Alright."

Edward pushed the wheelchair, walking towards the other end of the hallway.

With his back to him, Byron's face revealed a playful smile as he thought, 'Words spoken in the heat of the moment are often the truest.'
